I, too, grew up in Waterville. Was trying to name the streets as you drove. see how good my memory is. You started out on Front St. I recognized St. Joseph Church then , to College Ave., turned around ,came back, went down Main St. (one way, now) then to Elm St. and Silver St. to Kennedy Drive(use to be Oakland Rd.) then I was lost. Grew up on Pleasantdale Ave. In a house that my Dad built. It has been 69 years since I left. Guess I could still find my way around. Nice tour, great memories, thank you.

Wow. 69 years. That’s a long time. Not much has changed. I haven’t lived in Maine too long. I was born in Bangor in 1973 but my parents and I moved to Maryland when I was 5. I just moved back up to Maine this year. I’m 48 years old now.

I was born in Waterville. 1954 in the LEVINES APTS (Now: LOCKWOOD on Main street-My Mom died here at Levines Apts 12/24/2002 RIP) and taken to Waterville Osteopathic. My mom and dad left for California 1955. Coming back for me in 1959. I grew up in Santa Monica and Malibu but, later in life fell in love with my home State of Maine. I moved back 1968 to stay with grandparents, Marie Jeanne and Pierre Lacombe at 15 Kennebec st. Grandfather worked for Hathaway Company 35 years fixing machines. Marie Jeanne was a professional Piano player. Prodigy, Played at Opera House etc. 1996 I returned again buying a home at 3 Central Avenue. til 98. I learned we are not too accepted back when we RETURN from afar, lol Sadly. I would have stayed. I will always be a Mainer. My mom returned to her Maine, Waterville, in 1971 and stayed til death 2001 LEVINES APTS. #19. I see here it is a Lockwood Hotel now. wow! Everything has changed. Main street has really changed, I worked at WOOLWORTHS Dept store in 1968-70 in Inventory, During High school years and did Haying on farms with Mark Carter, Picking FIDDLEHEADS for $20.00 per sack and fishing and hunting. I love Maine, Thank you for video. I am back in Malibu, California but, my heart is in MAINE,

@@drivingwithdaddy4399 I Pray your parents are doing alright DD. James Hall here out in Malibu, California and hating it still. I cannot make this up, I just got in an argument with my wife of 46 years about LIVING IN MY MAINE. lol With the Equity in this house we could live like Kings in Maine. I'd go to Houlton, ME where I have family and friends. Nice community. Farms. 74 acres, 6 bedroom homes with Barn, basement (we don't find here ever) attic, and more. Near lakes, fishing. Hunting. Hiking. Canada. EVERYTHING I WANT. My wife is Italian and hates the 'cold Winta's' lol I say, so what. We'd live happier and better there. Everything is so expensive here. Crime sky high. Never know if we'll be Killed by a mass shooter or mugged in the parking lot of market. Gangs everywhere. Scammers. You name it they are here. I live in an Old home my dad built in 1959 for $30,000. So we are not rich in Malibu terms. It's a fixer upper. However, land is worth something. It'd get us to Maine comfortably. Check out: ANDREW MOORES, Realtor, Houlton, Maine. my family. He sells property all over Maine but, focuses on Northern Maine. Great guy. Interesting and very clever videos about his properties. You'll enjoy them.Take care my friend. James, Mainer forever - US Army Veteran SGT 9th Infantry Division. Airmobile (I messed up getting out. I should have gone to Officers Candidate School OCS. As offered. Damn shame! The Pension I keep thinking about and the star. lol oh well

Main Street really has changed! I spent many a childhood summer in Waterville, spending hours in the library, climbing on the cannon in the park on Elm Street, and going to see what I might buy for a dollar at Woolworth's a few years before you worked there. My heart, like yours, @James Hall, resides there sill.

@@drivingwithdaddy4399 That is very nice of you to help your parents. We come into the world and go OUT so very quickly.. 74 years for men on average. My dad died at age 61. Mom died at LOCKWOOD HOTEL which was LEVINE'S APARTMENTS back in the day, which is weird because in 1954 I was BORN in Apt 19 LEVINES APTS. 1954. My mom was close to the family and they gave her a great deal. She was poor. At one time she lived with 11 women on a Farm in a huge Victorian home in N Vassalboro. When I saw her in that house with all those old women, sick women, I cried. I had to get her out of there. When my Father died I found out SHE COULD GET HIS SOCIAL SECURITY check. Nice! Increased double and she was able to get back to LEVINE's Apts where she felt comfortable. When she died I finally found out what her issues were all her life, schizophrenia. My God that is horrific. In 1968 she was working at US NAVY Intelligence on Navy yard in San Diego, CA a DATA PROCESSING and later computer specialist. One day they found strange notes in her locker and I guess knew she was Mentally ill. sad. My brother and I tried so hard to help her. RIP.....Yes, I love MAINE. Beauty. History. and places to enjoy. Belgrade Lakes one of my favorite places. Sanford (?) up North a huge lake near New Brunswick and across from Canada where my grandparents were born in BEAUCEVILLE, CANADA. And others Tricadie, Nova Scotia. My Ancestry. I spent 23 years trying to FIND FAMILY and who we are. Robert Chenard of Waterville, Maine helped me. Pro Genealogist. Professor of Genealogy University of Maine. Worked with State of Maine in Augusta too. He helped me find my roots. Nice man. Hard work too when people Change their names. Oh my. Grandfather born: WALTER ARTHUR PITTS 1897 changed name: 1923 to JAMES ARTHUR HALL. My God that screwed up my Investigation into my family for 3 years. Couldn't figure out why it ALL STOPPED. Then Robert found out why, PITTS became HALL. lol Dad's dad drowned 1943 in Hull, MA 11 pm at night while FISHING with a buddy to feed his family of 8 children. Fell overboard in a storm. Dad recovered his father's body 2 weeks later onshore. Age 13. He started drinking and smoking that week. depressed and now the OLDIEST CHILD who had to care for his siblings and mother. Find a JOB. In those days NO CHILD WORK LAWS. 1943. 13 years old working in a factory. My God! died at age 61 alcoholism/cancer of brain. Mom died in LEVINE'S APTs of stomach cancer age 71. What a history. MAINERS - Larry Hall my brother died at age 53. Cancer. Born in Buena Park, California. I never knew these things until ROBERT CHENARD OF WATERVILLE, MAINE HELPED ME. Thank God, as he brought some PEACE to my life - Thanks for Video brother.

@@CliveNDerek wow, I saw your comment and WOOLWORTH's Dept Store. lol I Mark Carter found me a JOB at WOOLDWORTHs in 1968. I was dirt poor. My dad divorced my mom and lived on beach in Malibu, California and left us with nothing. Mom was mentally ill so I was oldest and worked from age 11. No child laws in 1960s so kids could work full time. I kept hearing when I complained, 'IT BUILD'S CHARACTER' ??? lol No, it pisses a child off. Anyway, washing dishes. painting. neighborhood yard work. Cutting grass. Washing cars. Then WOOLDWORTHs job came up. Better money. Inventory clerk. pricing goods. cleaning the store. In 1972 I got OUT OF DODGE. Bye bye Waterville. here I come US ARMY. 9th Infantry Division. The Drill Sergeants made me acting Sergeant on my first day. lol Yes, all that work builds character as they said. lol I was tough and it FIT. In 1974 I was PROMOTED to full Sergeant and General Alexander M Haig, my boss and NATO COMMANDER - Europe. Made me a Drug Investigator. I'd go on to BASES around Germany, Italy, France and turn the place upside down looking for drugs and having Company commanders, Captain's do URINALYSIS TESTS. If you came up POSITIVE you saw ME first. OMG! Tough meeting. I had to decide what happened next. Counseling. Slap on hand or Pink slip. Reports went directly to Gen Haig. 4 great years. Post Vietnam. I later became a Regional VP for BEST FOODS CORP. Europe., USA, Canada. I couldn't be stopped and it ALL STARTED IN WATERVILLE, MAINE. lol Of all places. 1996-98 I owned 3 CENTRAL AVE. Waterville. Paid cash $39,000 and KEYS BANK handled the deal. weird because as a poor kid in 1967 I had thoughts of robbing it. lol true story. sorry but, sadly true. I lived on SOUTH END and so poor. Arthur Ganya, a former State Trooper, now owning a ICE RINK tried getting through to me. I wasn't listening at the time. I was starving. My buddies met at PARK across from LIBRARY you studied in. Drugs used. Paul Cotes. Pat Cotes died doing drugs. OD and Suicide. Danny Veilleux, alcoholism. Lost a lot of guys. Becky veilleux. Trudy Hawks. Mark Carter of Green street. Paul/Patricia Lachance. Lenny Audet my friends. Good memories too. Rock & Roll, and Hippie years on beaches in California. I HITCHHIKED from Waterville to Malibu, California 1968 to find my father. 12 days on the road. Got stabbed in Virginia. Weird because NO POLICE, NO HIGHWAY PATROL stopped me. 1960s were open and wild. Kids could do anything. TODAY THE COPS WOULD PICK UP A CHILD HITCHHIKING alone. Even with someone they'd STOP & ASK QUESTIONS on a freeway! weird. I got to Malibu. finally. Hungry. Tired. with my little green suitcase. My father opened door. 9 am. Beard. bathing suit with a woman IRENE I later found out was his 3rd wife of 5. He was DRUNK. (again, later found HE WAS DRUNK EVERY DAY since age 13 after finding father dead under a PIER in the water. Drowned). Anyway, what happened next? HE CLOSED THE DOOR ON ME. My God. My dad!? I slept on BEACH under a Lifeguard station for 2 months. ALONE. Finding odd jobs around town, what a life. why I didn't end it I'll never know,. Maybe fear? I later found a FOSTER HOME to live with. Corder family from Texas. Yes, I MOVIE is being made about this life. Jimmy Halloway, Based on all True Events and an enduring dream"> Warner bros studio. true story. My wife: Mariangela Ferrario Hall, VP Warner Bros film Studio. No, you cannot make this shit up! WILD LIFE. All began in Waterville, Maine

This is so cool seeing Elm Street. Western Ave we walked up to going to Waterville High each morning to school 1968-71. I lived on Autumn street. Up Hill from Chez Paris. My mom was very poor. Silver street where my mom said," Mucky Mucks live there Jimmy". lol Dad lived in Malibu, California chasing women driving a Cadillac. a Loser. drunk. He pissed me off leaving Mom in Waterville like this. Anyway, thanks for Video. Good memories too brother. Friends like Mark Carter teaching me to pick Fiddleheads. Hunt. Camp in Summer with his family. Leonard Audet and his Music. Band who played at YMCA Saturday nights. We'd all hang out at Park off Elm Street. It appears to be a Chamber of Commerce now unless my memory is messed up? Nice park too. Stephen Morrisette who's dad was a Postman . My grand parents family owned 'Veilluex Funeral Home" in 50's 60s . Lacombe/Veilleux. My Uncle Harold was a Waterville Police Captain. He tried keeping me out of trouble. I tried too. It was 1960s and tough times. Colby College. Bowling alley on Main street. Old Fired Dept on Main. N Vassalboro China Lake, Belgrade Lakes. Man oh Man so many great memories of Maine. Thanks, James

So many changes from the town as I knew it in the 1960s. You drove right past my Grandma's home on Elm Street, right behind the old Post Office.

Strange seeing all these places we'd pass in 1960s and changes now. You assume it'll stay the same. lol I worked at WOOLWORTH DEPT STORE 5/10 1967-68 as Inventory Clerk. Bought a FORD RAMBLER 1959 with my earnings. Cowboy boots. etc. I was 14 years old. Dirt poor living on South End behind CHEZ PARIS under a Laundry Mat on Sherwin street. I still have photos of it. sadly. Friends lived below in nice homes on Green street. Grandparents on Kennebec street. I was born in Waterville. know every inch of that town. Keys Bank helped me in 1996 buy a second home on 3 CENTRAL AVE and I closed the deal telling my sick mother she could live there. She refused. She was more comfortable at LEVINE'S APTS on Main street. weird. People looked after her here I later learned and she was quite ill. Couldn't handle a home of her own. I tried. I do love MAINE but, not my history there. Poverty was a depressing issue. I earned my MBA in Intern'l Business and traveled the world and owned homes in Italy, Germany, California (today: jameshhall1954 instagram photos) but, those childhood years in your HOME TOWN still stay with us. My dad was a real loser. He just didn't care and hurt everyone. Love the VIDEO but, not all the changes in our city. MONEY ENTERING TOWN it appears. SERVICE JOBS ONLY. Hathaway closed down. All those blue collar jobs gone. DEXTER SHOES? Probably gone. There was a town with chain of stores lining the street. Forgot name. 1 hour drive and you could buy goods at WHOLSALE PRICES. Name brands. Take care....sorry for letter. ranting today with my terrible memories. Some good. James - Malibu, California 2023
