This drive takes you from Hancock, Michigan, through Calumet, up to Copper Harbor and the end of US 41 at the very end of the Keweenaw Peninsula. I made this drive several times, and sometimes it was raining, so I edited the pieces together to give you a complete drive with minimal distractions. Enjoy it!
MyDrivelapse.com and Takemytrip.com provide driving videos and stories to help you plan your trip. Check out hundreds of videos on my KZfaq channel. Subscribe if you like it! Dozens of new videos are on the way in the coming weeks.
I made this trip in October 2017. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Visited the UP for the first time this past June. I hated to leave. It’s my mental happy place and I hope someday to own a house in the Keewenaw Peninsula. The people of the Great Lakes region were so nice to me and they seemed to enjoy the same things I enjoy, like being able to make one’s own jam, grow lavender, or make homemade cheese. The air and water were so clear and the countryside so tidy and unspoiled. There was a sense of having gotten far away, far enough away that nothing hurtful could get to me.

The peninsula you were on is noted as a source of copper nuggets (found in the rivers and so on), which were collected by Native Americans and made into valuable trade objects. Copper from Michigan has been found in archaeological sites here in Florida - traded and transported (almost certainly by river) in prehistoric times. People think that Native Americans did not travel or trade long distances, but we've found obsidian from Yellowstone at some sites east of the Mississippi, plus Florida shell transported north, and so on. The Hopewell culture had "outposts" as far south as central Florida - and the center of that culture was in Ohio. Meteoric Iron identified as coming from Ohio even showed up at Crystal River - cold formed into high-status objects. I thought you might find this interesting...

The best part is an hour farther down the continuation called the Mandan.

I'm making that pilgrimage here in 4 days, though I'm starting a bit further away in the lower mitten. First time my kids will have ever seen God's country I'm very excited. May even use your inspiration and take my dashcam footage to make my first ever video(s) / blog(s) to post on here as well.

In the lower right hand corner, there is a gear icon. Click it, and then select playback speed, and choose a slower version.

Not the end of the peninsula, but if you don't have 4wd and decent clearance underneath I would not recommend going down the dirt road that leads to the actual end at High Rock Bay. This is directed toward anyone, not just the person that uploaded this.🙂
