I built my first birdhouse as a way to get back into woodworking. I didn't think much about what I would do with that birdhouse. Eventually I put it outside and on a whim, I put a camera inside it. It was fascinating to watch the babies and parents inside! I've been videoing birds ever since.

I adore chickadees! The first time I got to experience my own fledglings was on a bright early morning. While the sun was streaming down in rays, all 6 of the fledglings popped out of the box, one by one, in unison and fell to the soft ground below. They looked like little angels descending from heaven! They got up real soon and flew off from the ground on which they landed after leaving the nesting box.

I love how involved both parents are and also how fast that nest is built! My brood was a little smaller this year, but so far my chickadee house has successfully fledged 5/5 broods, plus one brood of Brown-headed Nuthatches (a bit unexpected but quite welcome). TY for this amazing view of what I can only listen to!

@@BirdsWalkingDown it happened once then the Chickadees came back. Both species are very responsible and protective of their young. One cool thing I saw with the nuthatches was their habit of allo-preening, one mate would preen the other. Hopefully if you haven't seen it yet you'll get a chance to soon.
