Hi Lucas, you are a great film maker and skier and I really enjoy your video's. I noticed in this episode you mention people in Canada using the safety bar. Well it's not just in Canada but also in all of Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand in fact the whole world. You will recall the unfortunate incident in early January when a ski patroller in Park City died after being ejected from a chair by a falling tree. Had he lowered the bar he would most likely be alive today. What you need to remember next time you ride a chairlift is that when a human body hits a hard , flat surface from a height of just 3-4 meters it will result in serious injury. From a height of 10 meters or more it results in DEATH . Tumbling down a steep slope often results in no injury, but hitting a flat surface does ! And when you ride a chairlift you are often high up over flat surfaces. It's like wearing a seat belt in your car, 99.9 % of the time you could get away with not using it, but sooner or later your luck runs out and you end up injured or dead. As a high profile You Tube infiuencer you have a responsability to educate your followers in how to safely use a chairlift ! And the ONLY way to safely use a chairlift is with the safety bar down !!
@LucasCatania17
@LucasCatania17 Жыл бұрын
some chairs in the US dont even have bars so i dont think thats necessarily true
@robt5162
@robt5162 Жыл бұрын
@@LucasCatania17 Whether or not some old chairs in the US have safety bars or not doesn't change physics, if you fall from high enough you will be injured or killed. It's just common sense to lower the safety bar and eliminate the risk of falling. When you sit in your race car this weekend you are protected by a roll bar and harness, same thing, you use them to reduce risk as much as possible.

Awesome video and glad to see you make it to Whistler Blackcomb! I was just there two weeks ago, too bad I wasn't there when you were. I also had one day were visibility was really bad in lower levels so I literally just stayed at the top and that's what most people will do anyways. Takes way to long to go to the bottom and then back to the top so everyone usually sticks where the main restaurants Roundhouse (whister) or Rendezvous (blackcomb) as a central spot and then go up from there. Luckily on my second day I had sunshine so the view from the top is amazing! Hope you were able to catch some of that on your next day. Whistler is a busy mountain, the weekends are really thick with lineups and traffic. Even though I've skied my whole life on this mountain, it's so big that I still learned some new runs to try after watching your video, so thanks! Good luck with your battery issues.

Welcome back to Canada! Another great video. Man that first run was gnarly! I’ve never skied Whistler, but I can say that in Alberta, my experience is that people put the bar down 100% of the time, and we have those racks with locks, but I’ve never seen anyone actually use a lock.

Sorry to hear about the dc/dc charger. That is a pretty crucial piece of kit. I use a Victron dc/dc charger. Actually I have two set up so I can get 60 amps charging. I also upgraded my alternator since these chargers can burn up an alternator. But ur in Whistler black comb so that is awesome. I’m sure you will figure it out but be aware if ur pulling too much from your alternator it could burn up. Enjoy Canada. I was poised to roll up last season but after the trucker strike n Covid testing i decided not to. Enjoy the Canada adventure!

You probably know this but keep an eye on your mold situation, I’m from Colorado and it’s not so bad there, and probably similar in Utah, but when I was in the northwest, I really had to keep an eye on it and I’m sure in Canada it’s going to be a little bit like that. All those little corners way back far in your rig that you don’t see or think about you might want to explore a little bit make sure you’re not moldy, and then you can get that mold spray. They sell at Home Depot works pretty well. it’s called mold control. I’ll spray it in those far off corners and just let it dry. It’s a good preventative but it also cleans and kills so it’s the perfect all in one. And I do like my Victron DC to DC charger. I’m not sure which one you have but I like it because I can monitor it through Bluetooth and I can see how my batteries are either getting a charge or not. It’s strange to think you’re getting power to it but nothing to your battery bank. Hmmm….

Squamish for parking excellent, yeah I was always worried about where I’d find parking if I went up there, I was actually gonna bite the bullet and pay for a campground in town. I think there’s one that’s open but it’s not cheap so Squamish sounds good and yeah there’s probably a couple spots you can stealth camp if you’re in laid out early, but I’m sure that area is pretty tight. I’m sure you know this, but Sun peaks is now on the icon pass and it looks pretty awesome further away from the crowds too so might be a good place to check out on your way to Revelstoke, which I assume you’re heading back to you

I always lock my skis specially on the east coast . I have had two pairs stolen. That Saudan looked fun but the top seem like you were about to get blown off the MTN.

If you had to rank Saudan, spankies, outer limits, and pakalolo in order from hardest to easiest. What would they be? I’ve skied spankies, pakalolo, and cougar chutes and few times but never had the guts to do Saudan. Is it much harder than them?

Can confirm putting the bar down is a thing in Canada. Also nobody uses those ski locks. Idk why there everywhere in Canada but nobody ever uses them

the bar thing is so true. I once had the bar down going up and when I went to push it up (after saying I was going to) about one tower from the top two ladies on the lift pushed it back down on my legs and said “that’s dangerous if there’s a kid on the lift!” (There was not a kid on the lift)

Also with the locks, it's not even "theft" it can be people accidentally taking your skis. Had a college kid last year snag my Nordicas thinking they were his rentals. He noticed trying to put them on like and being loke "these are too big for some reason?"

What kind of goggles/lense would you recommend for the flat-light, low-visibility kind of days? Something that makes the contours of the snow pop out as if it were sunny?

Austin, I'm in the PNW and use a yellow/amber lens most days. For me it seems better than a clear lens it gives some definition in the low light. When its bad weather no matter the lens you just need to stick to the trees.
@cody6678
@cody6678 Жыл бұрын
They make specific low light lenses that are usually like light pink/purple/yellow. Or just get a cheaper pair of clear lenses for bad days, which is what Lucas is wearing it looks like.
@LucasCatania17
@LucasCatania17 Жыл бұрын
I would recommend either a pink or yellow lens for conditions like this. I like my pink ones the best. I’ve been experimenting with clear lenses like in this video but I don’t think they are the best option out there.
