Love your idea of liking the foliage of the perennial even when the bloom dies out. That was something I hadn't thought of before, but now that you say that every time I look at my lenton rose I think how much I enjoy the foliage even when its not in bloom. Great tour my friend

Everybody hates negative comments and naysayers, but I'd like to say something based on my age and wisdom gained from my own garden. The more you create, the more you have to maintain. I repeat that to myself often as a reminder when grand plans pop into my head. Even though I completely understand your desire to expand your gardens, I worry that you are young and not considering where you might be mentally and physically as the years roll on. In videos earlier this season you talked about that feeling of overwhelm and how just a few activities like a short trip or a few social engagements put you behind in garden maintenance. You seemed stressed about it. I love seeing your work in the garden and you have already created quite the masterpiece, so just a word of caution as you consider expanding. Enjoy the wooded area you own, enjoy what you've already created, and don't try to develop the entire space as garden. Let the deer roam and birds nest and the critters play....leave something for Mother Nature, otherwise she'll feel left out and get bored. :-)

Oh, I forgot. I did notice your iris. They put on a big show in the background of your other video. They were gorgeous! So even though you didn't show them up close at their peak, we still got to enjoy and appreciate them. They would not allow themselves to be ignored. :-)

I also have a love affair with Siberian iris. I agree that the foliage always looks nice throughout the season after the flowers have faded. I always look for plants with beautiful foliage as the blooms dont last forever. Your gardens are so beautiful Jes. I had a thought while you were touring, the bird gift from your Texas friend would really look nice on the type of pole that you have your bird house on. Hi Jes, I just love all your videos! Thanks so much for sharing them with us. You are so sweet!! I wanted to tell you what I was told about that weed that you pulled out at 3:24. I've had quite a few popping up in my garden beds and I hate the stickiness of it! It gives me the creeps. My brother who lives with us looked it up and he said it's a type of Milkweed. I'm not to sure about that though. He put an obelisk around a bunch of it near his bedroom window. At least this way it will be contained and I won't have to deal with it. He says that it will flower. I'll get back with you and let you know if it does or not. Later sweetie. God bless.

So very colorful! Wish I could get heuchera to grow as well as yours. Zone 8a seems to be too warm for too long. Poppies do well but that’s a flower. Hosta does well here but I am lacking the shade it needs here. I’ve got a couple but are in pots because”something totally eats them up down to the ground if they are in the ground. Bugs & heat. Honestly with a short growing season at least it’s a good growing season. Our plants in the south just suffer thru the very long hot season. Lol

Hi Jes, Do you have a Hosta called August lilies? Botanically they come from the Hosta plantaginea clan. My mother gave me some from her garden 35 years ago and I planted them next to the back of our home that gets all shade and then some around my our Dog Wood tree. They do not bloom until August and have beautiful white lily flowers and the most wonderful scent to them. I just love them and they always remind me of my mom. She passed away in July 2019 at 92 years old. ❤️❤️❤️

I have a hosta that I planted last year. I got it at Home Depot. I chopped it off completely last year because I thought it died on me but it came back this year. So I would think that if I planted it last year, it would be a little bit bigger now, but since I have it under a shaded area and I think it might need more sun I just scared that it might burn and die on me.
@jesthesinginggardener
@jesthesinginggardener Жыл бұрын
They love shade! That’s what most prefer so you should be ok. There are some however that can handle sun. But they soak up energy to perform through the leaves so depending on when you cut it off last year it might be a little slower to grow. Depends on a lot of different things I guess. They love water too though. Nice thing is, Hosta are so strong and resilient!
