I began the great eviction today also. 2 storage racks in my spare bedroom full of overwintered plants. Note: PW suprtunias (Priscilla) pretty easy to overwinter and started blooming last month. I just dug them out of my hanging baskets, cut them way back, potted up in 4" pots and put on the storage rack under grow lights for the winter. Dichondra silver falls did great as well. Tons of houseplants back outside in a shaded area for now. Also planted out about 20 of my wintersowing jugs. It was a good day!

I have the kids’ snow sleds and a Jet sled outside the door, makes it a bit easier to drag my plants out to the shade to harden off. But, nighttime temps are still too cold to leave outside in northwest Michigan, so the sleds make it handy to get them to the door again.

Hi Erin, Thanks for showing your seed starting set up. Fergus is cute! I felt so much better when you showed your cosmos and fungus gnats. I am a hoverer and tend to overwater,so I have you beat on fungus gnats. You reminded me to start Tithonia inside. I didn’t have luck direct sowing last year. I liked your butterfly sticky traps and your black plant tags with the white lettering. You reminded me to try dahlias from seed. I’m feeling stressed because I’ve created so much work with all of my seedlings and outdoor plants. I could use a team of helpers. Gardening keeps me moving!

Yes! I am exactly the same! I just have to start seeds in late winter because I am bored and just need to get my hands in the dirt and see something grow. I start tons of plants because some don’t make it. Then I get overwhelmed because I run out of room under the grow lights. Hardening them off is the worst part. But it’s worth it in the end…..and saves you money.

Hi Erin! Enjoy your channel. Watching your seed starting episode when it occurred to me, why isn't she using the Gardener Supply trays? I to have trouble remembering or getting to watering. GS trays are a life saver. And the best part, you can use them year after year. And they do sell the replacement wicking mats. Plus, to not have so many fungus Nats, switch to fish tank gravel. I think we live in high humidity. The vermiculite doesn't have a chance to dry out. That is why we get Nats. I look forward to seeing your summer garden. ❤

😂 Dusty Flats😂. I kicked mine out over 3 weeks ago. It’s an amazing and chancy early start here in WI. I’ve already planted out perennials, brassicas, onions, potatoes, lettuce, spinach and celery. Sowed carrots, beets and peas and sweet peas. Potted up geraniums and petunias. Started peppers way too soon (end of Feb) and I blame cabin fever and those in warmer zones😅. Definitely will only do super hot peppers that early again. I did hold off on tomatoes though. I just started them 4-17. I figure they will stay in deep cell packs until transplanting. I’m a bit turned off about tagging everything at this point. Definitely getting a label maker. Ready with frost cloths and may do a low tunnel and chance some peppers. I need the room. I can only walk in and back out of GH 😅. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m finding a lot of happy surprises that either wintered over, I had wrote off or plum forgot about. Think it will be a great growing season.

Hi Erin, I have been trying to find the American version of what Brits call “grit.” It seems they use it a lot to top plants. It looked like some of your seedlings had something like it on top or maybe it was just a type of seed starting medium I’m unfamiliar with. Was it a type of grit, and if not, do you know what garden grit is called here in the US? 😊
@martystevens2313

I've wondered the same myself...Watching Gardeners World makes me want to try it. I wonder if it is the grit you provide to chickens. The topping on Erin's trays is probably vermiculite. I use it as well. It helps hold moisture and prevent algae on the soil.
