Check out drinklmnt.com/Brent for a FREE 8 sample pack of their amazing electrolyte mix with any purchase. LMNT really saved the day with this race and is a huge supporter of this town, so I hope you'll check them out!
This week we did something really fun! A footrace up our 8 mile dirt road to the abandoned mining town of Cerro Gordo! It is an absolutely brutal run that gains almost a mile in elevation to get there. We had Olympians, ultra-marathon runners, long time friends, and more come out for this. What a day it was!
There was a lot of coordination that had to happen to pull this event off, so I want to thank Cloth & Flame (clothandflame.com) for their amazing production and helping make sure this first event went off smooth!

Hey Brent! My son and I were the first Father/Son team to hike up to Cero Gordo in August of 2021, you saw us when you were riding down on your dirtbike and asked us if we were OK and what we were doing...we said we were hiking to Cero Gordo. You met us at the top after you ran your errands and invited us to stay for lunch after taking a tour around the town. We WILL be back. Just hope you didn't forget about this and even discussed having a future run or race like you have finally done. You definitely told us we were the first Father/Son team to accomplish this and that you had done it but would never do it again. See u soon!

I walk and I tried running before my plantar fasciitis really beat me down. I found that runners along the way were more friendly and encouraging. I was out running around a nearby lake one day, and I was super slow. It really was ridiculous, but I was going for my first 2 miles. Along the way, a guy sprinted onto the trail, and he legit lapped me twice. His third time coming around, he could see I was still trying but really struggling. He threw his arms up in the air and cheered me on. Seeing him in my head still makes me smile. :)

I remember from Cody's Lab that you have to be a bit careful. Apparently extraction and refining can end up being considered commercial, then the mine needs all the permits and paperwork for a full blown mining operation. I don't know if there'd be work-arounds by using existing loose ore, but it would be sad if bureaucracy jumps in and shuts it down.

@@Its_Captain_Jack_Sparrow I'm sure Brent knows the details way better than I do. But California, and the 'Land of the Free' only applies when someone doesn't want to sell you a permit and regulate you. I don't know if Cody's mine had different regulation, like being in Utah, or maybe on public land, but it sounded like a lot of potential expense and paperwork. Which is a shame really, because it would be neat to be able to buy or make stuff with real Cerro Gordo silver and minerals.

What a great thing! Been with you since the very beginning. I remember stumbling on "I bought an abandoned ghost town" maybe 1 or 2 days after it was posted. I teared up when the AH burned I was filled with hope when Dave Sparks and the Diesel Bros came and helped you with the cement. I worried that you might lose to the big corporate miners. Then the road washed out. You fixed it. You had to take some time away. NOW, it's starting to get to the point where you can enjoy as we say in the music biz "the blues from the dues that you've been paying." Congrats, Brent. You absolutely deserve it. I'm up in Washington State and I definitely hope to get down there one of these days. Maybe I'll bring a couple folks and have some musical goodness. Your face says it all. Enjoy man. That was so cool! I’d like to see a music event/festival where you can camp and stay overnight. What set well with me is that you encouraged people as they raced and waited for the last one to finish before you ate! That showed some class!

Hey Brent, funny story: I was in the mood for an old western today, so I played a movie that I had never seen: "Waterhole #3," with James Coburn. Within the first 20 minutes of the movie, I was saying to myself, "Dang, that looks like Cerro Gordo." I've been re-watching a lot of your videos lately, and desert is desert, so I thought I was crazy. But I went to IMDB, and sure enough...the early scenes in the movie were filmed at Cerro Gordo! So cool. James Coburn roamed those hills in 1967! Haha.
