Sure were lucky you had good friends to notify you that your Williams Jet Tender was underwater, and that you had the good sense to respond immediately, and talk to the boat manufacturer, and stay with it to the successful end. I'm happy for you. You, whether you want to be or not, are the current expert on submerged Williams Jet Tenders. Congratulations.

Helpful hint for the future, change the oil before you try to start the engine the water would have been at the bottom and not mixed(oil floats on water). Also before you try to crank it first time remove spark plugs turn over by hand the crank the engine and you will get rid of the water out of the cylinders reducing the risk of bending a rod.

Hi Kev, yes, we did change the oil and remove the spark plugs and remove any liquid in the cylinders. This was done on day one when I didn't film and was in panic mode!

Well, this took some worry and a bunch of work, BUT,,,, you made it through this tough time and now know a hole bunch more about your tender and that all has to feel pretty damned good!!! I could see it in both of your eyes that it was breaking your hearts.. This was just a real freak thing!! Not like a slow leak that a pump could take care of. This was more like each wave could have filled the entire boat!! Sure happy you got it all sorted and Phil Seymour is absolutely a super hero for all he did helping you out and keeping you working through it... Better make sure he's on your Christmas Card List!! Again, very happy you got it all back to normal.. Cheers!!!!

You gotta wear eye protection when working in the engine. A few years ago while working in my car engine. I was at the fuel injector and when i removed it was under "leftover" pressure and sprayed right in my eye. I went to pharmacy to get help but there is almost no treatment available for the eyes. They couldn't do anything for me. Fortunately it healed itself. But wear any type of eye wear when working in their.

Good repair job you two. The first one has to do in a motor under water situation is make sure their didn't come any water inside any part of the engine, as water can not be compressed. When the piston come up for the compression cycle part and their is water inside the zylinder the piston and the piston rods can get damaged by bending. In the twentyfirst century outboarders and jet engines should have inside water sensors! They could save one quite some trouble. Happy sailing;-)

Wow you did very well to save your Williams, really felt you pain.. If you put between 1/2 and 1 cup of metholated spirits in the fuel tank once a year (more so if in the tropics) it will dissolve all water/condensation and do no harm at all.. old school trick. also use lanolin based oil/spray around all your electrics, plugs, connectors and wiring around on and under the engine... it helps protect... it does not dissolve plastic like DW40 will etc... meanwhile love the Videos

This is too late to help, but I like to keep a can of starting ether in my tool box. This is a quick way to check if the starting problem is fuel related. Also, checking for compression can be done with just a finger held close to the spark plug hole. I don't think it would have been necessary to replace the coolant since that's a sealed system. Other than that, James did all the right things. Good job, Captain! Admiral, you always bring your "A" game! ; ) Love the content. Please keep it coming.

When a motors goes underwater first and foremost,like #1,Like right now, like do not f%$# around, immediately DISCONNECT THE BATTERY .Salt water plus electricity =major corrosion of everything specially the wires and electric connections and I mean that within minutes you can see the bubbles of O2 and H2 and you know galvanic corrosion is at work. If you suspect salt water inside your engine flush it out with fresh water do not be afraid put the hose right in spark plug hole in two strokes.For 4 strokes you have to empty crank oil first Flush flush flush inside outside ,and flush again. After battery disconnect and flush you can take a break , your engine will not corrode much in the next few hours ,if you cannot work till next day keep engine filled with fresh water,it will take some work to restart but it will not be damaged. For longer storage fill with diesel . Please keep your engines dry and over water not under.

Isn't a Williams Jet Tender a little unpractical (weight vs payload) compared to an aluminum dingy?
@SailingAequus
@SailingAequus 3 жыл бұрын
No not at all, the tender garage fits right into its home, which is designed for the Williams, also James and I wake board and knee board from it so it has other uses. Its speed also allows us to get from A to B quicker which is very useful at times.. especially in huge bays where the dock is far from the anchorage.. thank you Steen

was there an underwater quake somewhere? The engine will be ok if you drain fill it will diesel to soak it after that new oil and it should be ok! Spray WD40 on the outside of the engine
@SailingAequus
@SailingAequus 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick. No idea but with the volcano going off in St Vincent recently maybe! Luckily the exterior engine had been treated with a fogging spray when i last serviced it so hopefully that was a barrier on the exterior of the engine. Its also been sprayed thoroughly since!!!

The minijet is a cool fun little toy but I'd never cruise with one as my only tender. The speed and tiny draught are awesome but there's fuck all space in it and the small size of it makes it dangerous in a swell. In the Caribbean where there's other cruisers to help and workshops, telephone and internet you can deal with issues but if you ever want to go to the pacific and explore remote atolls and islands the minijet its an unwise choice.
