A Freezing Morning Cotswold Walk in the Village of Saintbury

So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village and civil parish of Saintbury which is located in the county of Gloucestershire, England. At the time of the 2011 Census the population was 83. The post town for the village is Broadway.
The village church is dedicated to St Nicholas. It was built in the 13th century and is Grade I listed. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 under the name Suineberie.
On the morning of filming it was bitterly cold, in fact below zero! I was hoping for a much heavier frost but sadly it did not materialise. You may well notice a couple of jump cuts fairly on in the walk...the first one was because I was waiting for a grocery van driver to make his delivery and the second was when I stopped to have a little chat with a resident from within the village.

These walks feel like home to me. My 5th great-grandmother was from Kent, Lady Sarah Percel. I’ve always been obsessed with England. When I found out about her I realized England is in my genes. Thank you for the walks through my heritage. ❤

These are lovely!!! Thank you for sharing! We lived in Banbury in the early 90's (military family) and we loved it there! If you ever walk in Banbury please post! I have such wonderful memories of UK and those beautiful villages!!!!

A sunrise walk- my favorite kind! Unlike at some times, I was able today to immediately watch the walk in its entirety, and it was lovely (as usual). The peaceful opening scene of the fields with distant rolling hills, in the early stages of daybreak, made me long to “walk into my phone” and be there! The early morning walks are special in my book not only because I so enjoy them, but also because the dawn of day was the favorite time of my late, beloved grandma- and I have many fond memories of long-past sunrises that I shared with her. Your short breaks in the filming were almost seamless; it’s amazing how that can be done! In these days of most people owning cell phones, are the cute, red phone boxes we often see on walks still operative, or are they just left up and maintained as an item of decor, as they seem to be unique to England (similar to your red, double-decker buses that the UK is known for)? I just wondered, as I cannot remember when I last saw a pay phone box still up and operative over on our shores. (Ours, however, were never so attractive as yours; they were purely functional). Also, is that neat old church still used as an active place of worship? I enjoyed seeing that, as well- and the views surrounding it. Thanks for braving the cold (glad to see that you had on some warm gloves) to make this nice walk to present to your viewers; this was a beautiful way to start my Sunday!

The majority of rural phone boxes are no longer functional and serve nowadays as either mini libraries or housing De-Fib units and on rare occasions are just an empty shell. They certainly are an iconic part of our national history and are always a joy to see them in the villages that we visit. Hope you are enjoying your Sunday. Have a good week ahead. ~ OAAW

@@OutandaboutWalking A mini-library is a great way to repurpose those picturesque phone boxes! We have little “libraries” here, too, but they consist of small, wooden, enclosed (with a door) boxes- mounted on a post, and people can donate/take books from them at will. In some neighborhoods they use a similar thing as a food pantry, for those in need to help themselves to non-perishable items- which I think is a really nice idea! I’m glad the pretty church is still active. Have a great week!

Magnifique promenade avant le lever de soleil merci ! I imagine Saintbury must be quite high as there is a good view. I wonder what is on the horizon - too near to be the Malvern Hills?? Thank you for doing all the leg work, and for those of us nearby, getting information of where we might walk next.

Lovely expansive horizons we tred, the frigids tho were figidier, huh! Me too...👃+🥶=💦>🤧. I caught the church twinking, did you? All the windows were crafted with very small ♦️-panes making a very unearthly effect; must say the engineers knew that scintillant would occur and took full advantage. Oh, and TheEnd; seeing the warm sun scraping away the chills in the distance liken the light at the end of a tunnel, so welcoming and encouraging, made me wanta ruuun to get in the beams. There was a take-back in there, for me anyway, l think, well, had you twerked that 2nd fade, tho mighta been difficult, with 4-fades, out/in on sound of "greetings" tho camera looking off somewhere, out/in on "farewells" skipping private conversation would've been unique and Cotswoldy. I apologize, tho, your so good at being Producer🕶️, it's just 🙊 business from me. Tallyho, dear Sir🕶️. 🤍s: 3:52 the bicycle a'leaning on pasture fence, 8:10 The Eldest Ent, 15:49 merry-go-round.

Good day, L.J. It was so cold, even with thermal gloves on, my fingers were still 🥶! Guess what! I did actually notice the twinkling on the panes and was very much hoping the camera would pick it up. That was a great production idea actually! Will have to make a mental note of it as I’m sure a similar occasion will arise again sometime. Ha, you spotted my bike :). @@OutandaboutWalking I never figured it your bike, but as time went on & the more I looked at it in me 🤍freeze frame and its "new" condition & more and more it looked so outta place.... I squinted me eyes and 🤔hmmmm'd. Had you not confessed I'd still be 🤔ing. But now that the cat's outta the bag, HOW DELIGHTFUL!
