You can move to Boston if you have lots of money. Lived there 1986 to 1996. Lots of 🌫 fog. But winters too cold. Nice autumn and spring. Summers hot and humid. Lived in the city no air conditioning 3rd floor for 10 years. But the heat was good. Now it's very expensive. Live in the sunshine ☀ state now.😊

Where to start; there’s so much to love about this video. Peace, the stillness of a glorious morning, birds chirping, lush greenery and wonderful river. Nothing more English than your spectacular wisteria vines! How lucky you are, to be enjoying this amazing walk. I’m always curious if you predetermine your walks, or you just go with your instincts? Thank you for bringing so much joy with your videos, to us all. Please, send some rain and coolness, if you can; we’re burning up in Colorado! (100 F yesterday 🥵) Stay well OAAW👋🏻

Hi Rose. It is lovely to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed this walk along the Rive Thames. That is a good question! 95% of the time the walking routes are predetermined but for the 5% minority I literally wing it but only if I already know the area/location fairly well. I usually plan the walks out within 48hrs before they take place. Also, I may scout the area just before recording if there is one part of the walk I am not too certain of. So I will allow extra time for that which is often before it is even properly daylight! It has been quite dry here too recently, so much so that I have not done a rainy walk for a while. Hope you can keep cool in the hot weather. All the best OAAW

This was an enjoyable walk, and was a bit different from the usual. How lush everything looked, and it was so interesting to see the various facets of the Thames River. In the early filming it looked placid enough to be a pond or a lake- but the subsequent footage of turbulence revealed why signs were posted to prohibit any swimming or water sport. The ensuing walk on the paths and in the town was also lovely. I had to delay watching your walk this week, as we were on our own “out-and-about” further south, visiting our daughter’s family in N. Carolina; we just got back yesterday. I must tell you that at one really nice rest stop with great scenery (a valley surrounded by the foothills to the Appalachian Mountains), I wanted to make a short video with my phone to text to a friend back home, and I was trying to imitate some of the filming techniques that you so effectively use on your walks. It worked, and I was pleased with the result, even though it is just a phone video for private usage. So you see, you are not only presenting nice walks via KZfaq, but you are also teaching by example- and I thank you for that! : ) P. S. I thought I knew what hot weather was after our recent hot spell in NY, but NC has us way beat!

Hi Janet. It is great to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed this brand new walk. I was hoping for clearer skies on this walk but sadly it was not to be. I just had a look to see how far NC is south of NY State, quite a long way by the looks of it, especially given how big individual US States are! It was only just recently you said how much you enjoy mountain scenery. It is humbling for me knowing that you feel that inspired by the videos that I produce to incorporate my…well let’s just say somewhat unorthodox style of filming into your own home movies. I can imagine the end result looks so good with those incredible vistas! Glad you had a nice couple of days of family time together. Thanks for your time once more. All the best. OAAW

@@OutandaboutWalking As Americans, we know that we have a very large country- but just how large it is doesn’t really strike home til one travels any distance by car. (Airplanes don’t count…too fast!). If one didn’t stop, it would be a 10-1/2 hour journey, but with a few rest stops- plus varying traffic conditions and varying speed limits- it was about 12. (That was going home; going there we missed a road sign and got temporarily lost, finding ourselves mistakenly heading towards Washington! 😧 We wasted 90 additional minutes getting back on track). I was surprised by how constant the heat was further south. Here, even on very hot days there is some coolness overnight, and in the dawn hours. There wasn’t any there. (We are fortunate to have the Great Lakes right nearby, to somewhat moderate our climate. We also usually have a breeze, thanks to them). However, in other respects it was a lovely and delightful state, and full of very friendly people- and best of all, we were with family! You definitely would have liked the mountain scenery on the way, and if you lived there, you would have undoubtedly been planning walks from that neck of the woods. :) P. S. That sounds like a very hot temperature for the Cotswold area, being further north. In NC we hit 97 degrees Fahrenheit- which would be 36C (looked that up to convert it). AC is essential there…. Have a great rest of your week! : )

The church at Hatherop was granted by Ernulf of Hesdin to Gloucester Abbey before 1096.The church, dedicated to ST. NICHOLAS by 1545 but in the 18th and 19th centuries sometimes known as St. Matthew's, is built of ashlar and has a chancel with north vestry and south chapel, a central tower, and an aisled and clerestoried nave with north porch. It was entirely rebuilt between 1854 and 1855 by Lord de Mauley from designs by Henry Clutton and William Burges. Its predecessor was a smaller building with chancel with north vestry, central tower, and nave with north porch. A gallery had been erected by 1825. The main body of the present church is in a mixture of English medieval styles with many of the features carefully observed. The east end is by contrast in a French gothic style and the south chapel, which is a mortuary chapel to Lady de Mauley , is particularly striking. It is tempting to see in this an early work by Burges who was Clutton's assistant. The monuments include an early-14th-century effigy of a priest, unearthed by the early 18th century, and the tomb of Lady de Mauley of 1848 by Raffaelle Monti. Reset in the chancel are two enriched tablets to the Blomer family of the mid 17th century. The font was given in 1858 as a memorial to Lord de Mauley. The sanctus bell was cast in 1621 by Roger Purdue of Bristol. The tower had three bells c. 1703 but a peal of six cast by Abraham Rudhall was the gift of Sir John Webb in 1715; one was recast in 1852 by C. and G. Mears of London. The plate includes a chalice and paten given in 1599, an alms-dish of 1670 given perhaps by the rector in 1756, a paten of 1789, and a flagon of 1849; there is also a chalice, probably foreign, of medieval design. www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/glos/vol7/pp86-96#anchorn309

Say, was that part of the Thames River Circular Trail? I watched the first half twice I was so impressed by the complex waterworks (& me got twisted around compass-wise). For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what it does exactly, power substation and/or flood control? I was also puzzled who'd build a highrise wooden privacy fence to blockout the river view. Courtenay sure is lush in summer, my word! 🚶looked mighty trim moon-walking in front of a pebblely backdrop after illegally lumberjacking🏃in a riptide. I'm sitting here soaking wet too after handwashing me 🛻 ....not from hose water but from steamy 91° trying to plump me up liken a 🌭 weiner on a grill. How are y'all doing temp-wise, cooking the 🥚🥓 on sidewalks? ❤from🤠

Good day, L.J. It is lovely to hear from you today. So, I believe that the path we started on is the Thames Path. You are probably right on both counts I suspect. All I could think of at the time was don't drop the camera whilst getting those over the rail shots. This was a nice change because I don't think we have done anything like this before (at least not river wise). That is still very hot but dropped by a few degrees, right? But having said that you wouldn't have reached the hottest part of the day just yet. It is a pleasant 24 here today. You can nip over and wash mine if you like 😁 Well done on spotting our friend. All the best to you S.R :)
