The weather this past Sunday looked gorgeous, and after colder winter weather looked like a great day to get out trackside once again. My original plan was to railfan Norfolk Southern’s Reading Line, but with the horrible collision involving three trains on NS’ Lehigh Line the day before, plans had to be scrapped. I thought about trying to get some of the rerouted trains on other lines, but wound up settling on going back to Iona Island once more. I was definitely rewarded.
Usually you can count on the daily priority intermodals each morning, and then you never know what you are going to get. Mid-days can sometimes be a mixed bag, with traffic drying up for hours. This was not the case on this day. An empty ethanol train and two crude oil trains, which only run as needed, were sprinkled into the mix of usual expected trains. Plus, they brought foreign run-through power in the consist, offering more variety. I saw a total of 15 trains on the River Line between 7AM and 4PM, which is a pretty good number nowadays. Many of which are presented in this video.
