A trip to Virginia gave me time for my first-ever railfanning trip to check out the former Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad, now part of CSX. The RF&P has a rich history of railroading and was Virginia’s first chartered railroad. It was at that time a vital north-south link between the PRR and B&O Railroads at its northern end, and the ACL and SAL Railroads to the south. Operating independently until 1992, when CSX acquired it. It is now their RF&P subdivision, and hosts CSX freights as well as many Amtrak passenger trains.
This video concentrates between Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg and was filmed on the morning of April, 28, 2024. A couple of firsts for me as well was my first sighting of Amtrak’s Auto Train as well as my first time seeing a Siemens Charger leading an Amtrak train, as their operation has not really transitioned to northeast operations yet.
