I don't care much about the 3D either for the most part, usually I'm just fascinated by how well integrated it is, but I do dislike how no one even mentions Yuichi Terao while praising ufotable; most people just say the same old budget meme. In ufotable works, compositing should be appreciated just as much as 2D animation or even more. Also...TF is up with your channel pic? How can you put up a channel pic like that... Without sharing sauce?

ufotable also understands the fundamentals of hand drawn animation, and not using them (squash, stretch etc) as not a single moment the anime will break rigid/solid matter to imply speed as an example, and 3D environments You can see ufotable's progress based on their numerous animation works, not just anime but game opening movie as well. Quick example, God Eater Burst opening vs God Eater 3 opening The other studio seems to also understand on almost the same level as ufotable is CygamesPictures PS. speaking of God Eater. That God Eater anime is literally made to promote God Eater Resurrection. The game and the anime came out around the same time (Oct 2015 for the game and July 2015 for the anime). Heck, you can dress up as the protag Renka in the game

The only people who don't use smears in ufotable are the uncredited animators working there, and those scenes are mediocre at best. Ufotable's top animators like Masayuki Kunihoro are not like that. He uses agressive smears to show motion. Nozomu Abe does too, like with his zenitsu scenes. It's not like it'll affect the quality anyway. I love smears; Arifumi Imai is one of my favourite animators and he uses super exaggerated smears even while working with 3D backgrounds. Lack of smears is indicative of poor quality animation, but ufotable's lack of smears combined with extreme compositing is somehow appealing to normies.
@KenBladehart
@KenBladehart 2 жыл бұрын
@@-MankoMan Its similar to motion blur in games. People hate them, people love em. Some games implemented them correctly, some dont ufotable did them perfectly or did it minimally enough to not distract you from the flow of the action, or even to help focus on an action like Tanjiro slashing Sabito scene. Which is key I watched tons of anime for long time and I still get confused by poorly done action scenes. As cool as those high speed ultra blur scenes, they dont really convey the feeling
@-MankoMan
@-MankoMan 2 жыл бұрын
@@KenBladehart It just comes down to personal preference. I love the heavily distorted smears in Naruto vs Pain, which most people hate. It's extremely impressive to me, and you'll never get to see something that technically impressive from Ufotable's animation, outside of when Kunihiro or Abe are animating ofcourse. The comparison with motion blur in games is not correct. In games it's just a post effect that's put in after everything is made; it's literally useless and doesn't really add anything. In anime it's an integral component of the animation and is what makes the work of every animator unique. Without smears all you can really do is the slow motion-fast motion-slow motion... approach that ufotable uses a lot. Also they do use a lot of literal motion blur where the screen is just blurred a lot so that the characters don't look stiff, and I much rather prefer squashing or stretching over that.
@cj131

@@-MankoMan Regardless, their showes still look amazing. Fate series is one of the best examples. Demon Slayer is amazing top but what I'm saying is that Ufotable has a different, I think, modern approach towards making animé. They're talented and their shows are always badass with beautiful animation, directions and stories.
@Letucen_nik
@Letucen_nik 2 жыл бұрын
@@-MankoMan Definitely agree with you on the smears part, but I definitely do not agree on the motion blur in games. Camera blur I can understand, because it’s a reduction in clarity, which is not what you would usually want. Vector-based per object motion blur, on the other hand, is really essential in conveying movement properly. There’s really no much to it, it’s basically the same situation as in cg animated movies. Even at higher frame-rates you can still see gaps. For example, weapon animations are definitely escalated to another level with proper motion blur(cod modern warfare 2019 is an obvious example here). I would recommend watching the digital foundry’s video on the matter, it’s really good and conveys the idea very well.

This is the first time that I watch one of your videos and I am very grateful to the algorithm because it suggested this video to me, but at the same time I am sad because it did not reach a large number of people, this only concerns me lol, you should not be sad so that you can stay in a great mood while making this kind videos :) I hope you are open to advices. I advise you to get a good camera or a phone that has a good camera and also get a good voice recorder because these two things are key and make the algorithm spread the videos more widely (I know they are not cheap that's why it is only an advice). I really hope you get the audience you deserve. As another tip, try dividing your videos into several videos, because some are afraid of watching videos that are longer than 10 mins, and I was one of them before :) I usually watch at least 5 good videos of a channel then diside to subscribe, but you convinced me from the first one. About the equipment, yeah I know I don't have good ones, but unfortunately this is the best I can do as a broke college student. If all goes well I will get a job this year and I'll upgrade all my equipment, starting with getting a personal room so that I don't have to wait for everyone else to go to bed before I make videos lol. Also, I won't get discouraged by the view count at all. Making these videos and sharing them is my passion. I do it cause it's fun, regardless of the views I'm getting. Also my channel is still very young, so it's not surprising that I'm not getting all that many views right of the bat. Even though getting low view count won't discourage me, getting a high view-count would definitely be encouraging so I do get the point. As for the length of the videos, I've thought about that too, but it's again a situation where I'm choosing my personal taste over what's objectively beneficial. I'll look into it with my future videos. Thanks a lot for the kind words and suggestions! Comments like yours really mean a lot to me.

With all the recent news coming out of Mappa recently, I wish people would stop blindly praising studios when a good anime episode drops. We need to start recognizing the individuals who work so hard to make these shows come to life. Studios don't deserve praise until they actually provide these conditions that allow individuals to produce to their highest ability without killing themselves. Kyoto Animation and Ufotable continue to be the gold standard in the industry.

Quality =/= profitability is better described as effort =/= profitability. art is a subjective art from. It is far far easier to adapt a best selling manga from a popular magazine than it is to create an original, and have it work. Confirmed by anyone in the industry. Adaptations of a long running manga or light novel (harder to adapt) will always be more profitably than an original.
@-MankoMan
@-MankoMan 2 жыл бұрын
Didn't use "effort" because it is such a subjective idea when it relates to quality, and the point I was trying to make was the relation between quality and popularity. I'm sure the folks over at white fox who worked on re:zero s2p2 worked their ass off to get the show out, but it didn't look good cause they didn't have time. It was really profitable though. There's also ex-arm. A massive amount of effort was put into it by professional stunt-men, but the end result was garbage. Quality was bad and so was profitability. I wanted to prove the point that a better looking show is not always profitable, and while quality and effort do go hand in hand, the anime industry is definitely one with the most amount of wasted effort as well. Also art is NOT subjective. Not at all. Not when it comes to animation. It's very easy to judge an anime by the frequency of well animated scenes in it, the quality of composite, the art direction etc. If someone says they prefer OPM S2's animation over S1, they are objectively wrong. Only at the highest level, like OPM S1 vs mob psycho 100 does art become subjective. And finally, adaptations won't always be more popular and profitable. Code geass was definitely more profitable than a lot of manga adaptations.
@clarksmith8830
@clarksmith8830 2 жыл бұрын
@@-MankoMan I am not sure if Geass was that profitable compared to many manga adaptations. Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece are billion dollar franchises. The only originals I see were more profitable than any manga adapation would be Mobile Suit Gundam/Zeta Gundam and Gundam Seed/Destiny. Those shows didn't have a long episode count but singlehandledly made Sunrise one of the richest studios ever, allowed them to control the toy market. But you almost never hear about these stories again.

I've been watching a number of reactions from the new Demon Slayer episodes and the amount of times I've heard "This animation is godly! The visuals!" over and over again has bothered me. Like I understand there are more aspects to creating these beautiful scenes and this video really helped open my eyes. I know there's visuals, CGI, effects, and shading but I never understood how impactful it could be. The layers to these scenes is beyond the word 'impressive' in my opinion from Uftotable. Thank you for making this video and everyone else has stated it but you REALLY deserve more subs. Your level of detail and easy to understand explanation could allow anyone to comprehend the reasons behind the quality of Ufotable. For a while I have been convinced from majority that animation is the accumulation of everything in an anime. Which sounds quite stupid but it happens if that's all you hear LOL! To me, it looks like even on closeups in a number of scenes that the 2d animation is 3d models drawn over to look 2d. There are a lot of the characters movements that seem odd for hand drawn animation. My friend thinks that this is not the case, and that its hand drawn 2d from scratch on the close ups. Thanks!

The best animated season of all anime Jokes aside, I was expecting more in depth techniques from ufotable and yeah, more gratification to the second best studio (maybe first) of Japan Great video

I'm curious how you came up with all these explanations. Are you an experienced artist in this field? Or somehow this is just the result of your own extensive research? It seems like you're quite critical with 3D and 2D. Personally idc, as long as it looks great. Ufotable's 3D specials effects is great, especially the snow effects at the beginning of the 1st season.

Just personal research. A lot of my knowledge comes from the youtube channel "canipa effect", and the rest from sakugablogs and my own research from various artists. Also I don't dislike 3D; dorohedoro is one of my favourite shows and it's full CGI. It's just that I simply prefer 2D animation, whether it's background, foreground or effects. Ufotable has great digital effects, though sometimes they do go overboard with it, and stuff like blood, smoke and sparks will never look as good in 3D as they do in 2D. You can see the difference for yourself when Nozomu Abe animates and all effects are hand-drawn.

I don't see how you came to the conclusion that I'm not giving 3D enough credit. You might wanna watch my episode breakdowns on my second channel if you think that I don't appreciate the 3D. I like it when it looks good, like the backgrounds in demon Slayer, and I dislike it if it looks like garbage, like most of the blood effects.

Can somebody help me out and tell me how to phrase what normies (like me) refer to as "animation"? I.e. the process of creating moving pictures as a whole. I currently prefer to stick with using "animation" for the whole product (including music etc) and referring to what you call "animation" as "animation process", but I'm probably wrong. Maybe "anime production"?

Ok, all this different components of animations, is like judging a burger by the bun, then the lettuce, the meat, and taking apart a burger just to say the meat is good but the lettuce is wet or something, when people say animation is good, its judging the whole thing as a package
