A Fun Chat About Warging Sea Creatures (ASOIAF Game of Thrones)

In this video I wanted to have a casual chat about the idea of Warging into fish or other sea creatures. We have this build up in the books being mentioned in A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, and A Storm of Swords, but so far no one has done it as far as we know. Could Euron be the one set up for this in the future and what will be the uses or fallout from our favorite evil pirate using this power? Has he been taking advantage of this ability for years already? Or is there another use for this magical power? Let me know what you all think.

When you think about what they're capable of on their own, the idea of Ironborn reavers warging a pod of Orcas is terrifying to anyone at sea.

As far as warging fish goes I have another idea. Maybe Euron is warging sea creatures not to look for treasures (cuz lets be honest the seas are still big and dark af) but to sail faster. That would be pretty handy for anybody with a ship and would give a good explanation to why his crew is full of mutes. Cuz that's a big enough secret that you would not want other people to know

I thought he warged his crew into meat waves to get the items on land from Valeria, Night king style. But this more basic hypothesis is much better. I like it. Squid Euron just digging around in muck until he finds something, loosing his brains, partly drowning every time he wastes days and weeks to find a valerian fork.

❤With one reference you've managed to derail my mind completely, and look for connections with The Office. Now, the way I see things, ASOIAF is basically The Ofiice with dragons.

I believe all the times human warging has been shown in the books, it has led to two clear types of breaking of the mind (for the more powerful Wargs like bran to Hodor, leaving him simple) or utter madness (like varamyr to the wildling woman). So Euron warging his crew that seem to have their faculties intact and not simpletons as well as the dusky woman, I don't think is possible.

(This is a long-winded response to your video on possible living dragons) I think there is a more likely explanation than SheepStealer for the Winterfell dragon. The ice dragon short story might not be cannon, but ice dragons (at least in legend) are. At the end of the short story, the ice dragon melts into a pool of cold water, supposedly in death or hibernation. (Sorry this isn't really a cohesive theory, just some of my related thoughts and headcannons) The heart tree grove in the Winterfell godswood has a cold, black pool beneath it. I think it's worth noting that not only is the castle of Winterfell heated by natural hot springs, Winterfell was built around the godswood grove, the grove was not built within an already standing castle. It's possible that the pool of Winterfell is the corpse, hibernating state, or "egg" state of an ice dragon. Daenerys uses death to pay for the life of her dragons. Is it not possible that the death at Winterfell that night paid for the return of the dormant ice dragon spirit? Nobody has seen this dragon in the north since Summer saw it. In the short story, Nobody saw the ice dragon except for the "child of winter". given that the direwolves in the story are more magical creatures on the ice magic side, in my opinion only Summer was able to see it. (Plus Shaggy Dog possibly) The other direwolves might be able to see it in future POV's. This pool is also directly beneath the heart tree, so it's possible that the dragon spirit is connected to the weirwood net. This would directly give GreenSeer Bran a dragon to warg into. In speculation, perhaps the first men stealing the "eggs" or ice dragon hunting is what angered the Others in the first place. Looking forward to hearing other thoughts on this. The ice dragon might not be cannon but nothing has stopped us from using Fevre Dream to call Roose Bolton a Vampire or using unpublished drafts to see what was running through GRRM's head at one point. At the end of the day, the short story still roughly shows how George imagines ice dragons even if the world's are separate.

Varamyr talks about how even the most courageous man, if he wears the skin of a deer for too long, will become a coward, will become like prey. He also talks about how dogs and wolves are made to warg, like a boot to a wearer. Warging fish would probably make you stupid, or at least more fishlike mentally. I would imagine that seals and sea lions, which ironborn are known to skinchange, would be better candidates for euron to be using. They are predators, not prey. They swim like a fish, but are mammals like most of the other animals we see skinchanged. Krakens would fit the motif pretty well though

5:20 idk about westeros and essos but in our world if you find a place that has suits of armor it probably has more than one somewhere around. So Euron could just kinda dig around to find one that fits better. He could have it reforged of course but in that case I think he would want some specific design just for him. Like squids and stuff And there's no sign of that in the forsaken chapter

That is a good point he probably would have made it a little more personal and flashy if he had full control of the design. Also makes me wonder if he has more armor stored away somewhere secret if he was able to find any other pieces I doubt he just left the valuable metal there. (unless he was past his carry weight video game style haha)

Good point. If Valyrian steel is as famously tough as we have been lead to believe, even a major, prolonged heat wouldnt really damage it. Unless the Doom was even more magically influenced than we thought, and it involved "cursed lava" or something that was meant specifically to damage Valryrian steel/ or their impervious to "normal" damage structures. I guess what I mean is, maybe the magic that destroyed Valyria also had a more widespread anti-materiel effect

Thanks! I have been really busy the last couple weeks with other projects and real life responsibilities, but I hope to get back to some random day mid-week vids as well soon. I have had more things to talk about than time to talk about them lately haha (Also plan on getting back to being more active in having time to answer comments which I also sort of fell off of the last couple weeks)

I also think Crow's Eye can "see" through people's eyes. He's got some powers, we know that. He straps those people to the front of ships to know what's going on in the sea battle.

Once a wreck is found there were old world techniques used for salvaging. Spain did this a lot when hit with hurricanes in The Americas when they knew where the ship had gone down. Nightmare fuel stuff with indigenous peoples tied to rocks, ropes and holding of breath for 5-6 minutes well over 100m down.

Your work has firmed up the idea that Azor Ahai has warged into Euron in my mind. I've seen theories about greenseers warging into their sons, and we've seen what Bran can do. Plus there's a string of civilizations that have some culture hero who's name is a variant of Azor Ahai.

Have been thinking a lot about how valirian steel reacts to blood and death. It feels like it should take some of the soul power in the kill. Maybe a sword or an armor could absorb the power even if it is just near. Ice in the scabbard tied to a horse. Euron's Armour, a crown, the bands on the horn. Seems like the kill releases magic energy that can be harnessed by rituals, magical artifacts, magic beings... .

I do believe it is yes, I forgot about that while making the video but I know the iron born warging sea creatures has been a talked about thing in the fandom for awhile. I wonder how much sea exploration the Farwynds get up to with their warging. Maybe it is even the way they originally found such a far off little island to settle.

@@michaeltalksaboutstuff One theory I like, which I think I heard first from LML, is that the Ironborn are a mixture of First Men and GEotD, and that the ancient mariners went east from Asshai and came upon the Lonely Light first during their voyage across the Sunset Sea, using it as a pitstop before reaching Westeros. This would make the Lonely Light the Ironborn's first settlement, rather than its last.

@@michaeltalksaboutstuffi think her sitting at the point waiting for the soldiers to come home as a kid, and then her having the same sort of anxious waiting during the battle of whispering wood, starts to hint at it. And i think think the cat chapter in thr whispering wood is basically her percieving the battle from the stream bed. 🙃 its more of an out of body meditative experience. As a kid her first sight of the soldiers wouldnt be with her eyes, but rather with her reach of being warged into fish. But i think she generally percieved them as the same thing.

Love your video and thank you for the content! I usually don't have opinions on theory's, but I am going to have to weigh in on this. If we assume that Euron as a pirate would be in a healthy, muscular shape. Then let us take into account that when Dunk needed armor, Steely Pate measured him and said "I have some pieces in me wagon that might do for you." Meaning that he has a variety of sizes pre-made to sell. So if Euron did go to Valyria, was able to walk around unbothered by all the things that kill people there, then he could have found a stockpile and taken what fit.

@@michaeltalksaboutstuffI prefer the theory that he paid them with the dragon egg. „He threw it into the sea“ = Balon falling from that bridge. The FM seem highly interested in dragons and dragon lore, Sexy Jesus isn’t in Oldtown for nothing. The Oldtown plot is the one I anticipate the most, so much characters there are up to no good, starting making trouble in the neighborhood. That’s all kind of a crazy mistory box, I sincerely and greatly hope that it rocks.

He might use warging fish to navigate - the Iron Fleet sailed to the Shield Islands very far away from the shore - something that should not be possible or is very hard. The risk to drift into the open sea or miss the target is immense - unless you have some handy se creatures as guides

Personally I think everyone taking Eurons Valyrian Steel Armour as a sign if him actually having been to Valyria a bit of track. I actually like this idea that he was Worging fish to find stuff at the bottom of the smoking sea a decent way to explain the daggers (also a little weird its just daggers, right?) But his armour, I very much don't think he got that from Valyria. Besides the fact thay Euron basically lies about everything to begin with. But the armour to me sounds like he has simply found the tomb, or burial of Balon Blackskin. Which hey, if he is worging fish, there would be a high chance Blackskins body would be at the bottom of the ocean somewhere

Random thought: If mermen could warg would Patchface himself be the subject of a warg? When humans warg they use the creature's vocals to communicate with other creatures. We have no wolf POV to be sure that Nymeria is understood completely. The Dire Wolf might just have good ideas even if they sound a bit strange. The pack might be dedicated cult followers of a prophet around who speaks funny but occasionally makes some sense. Humans seem too dumb to worship Patchface.

OK...WHY didn't the Targaryens have more Valerian steel...EVERYTHING? There is NO way they didn't bring a shiton of steel with them. IF they didn't it has to be because they couldn't. Prolly due to the prophecy/dreamdeal. And Jaehaerys says something really odd about how it is good that nobody knows the secrets of Valerian steel-it's weird cuz SOMEONE does. You aren't the only person who noticed that his Valyrian armor FIT him. So, where did it go? Did they sell it? Trade it, maybe-in Oldtown? So-to me, it reads that when Bran goes to leave that cave with his friends, he will warg his way through the underground passages. Bran is def going to warg into sea creatures. And Euron..so, going back to the Aerea Targaryen story. I do NOT think Aerea went ONLY to Valyria. I think that if she went there then THAT was her last stop and it was brief. And that is why I wondered if Euron warged sea creatures or even whatever land creatures are IN Valyria in order to retrieve this stuff. I mean-we are told about crazy sea creatures and being able to warg them for a reason, right? If Arya canwarg Nym and use Nym to help grab her mom out of the river...then Euron can grab up some things from water as well. Something is different about Euron. His actions kind of remind me of Patchface. Did BR try to 'help' these guys the way he did with Bran...or was he trying to interfere with them?

That is a good point with the Targs not bringing more Valyrian steel with them. Maybe it was because they were a poorer dragonlord house before the doom. I suppose I wouldn't be surprised if there was some secret caches of it they had on Dragonstone and the knowledge of them was lost at some point. I really do like the idea of Euron warging things to retrieve treasures from a place he couldn't have gone and lived. He is somewhat defensive of Rodrik the reader calling him out on not having actually gone to Valyria but it certainly seems he did get things from Valyria... That would kinda make sense if he went there via warging but not in his own body. It would fit with him having "been to Valyria" but also not dealing with the normal consequences of having been there. I kinda think at this point Bloodraven was using Euron and manipulating him, which is kinda what he has done with Bran on some level as well. As far as patchface IDK if he had much interaction with bloodraven but I do kinda like the idea of an old warg who was living their second life in a fish finding patchfaces body and jumping into it the way Varamyr six skins tried to do, creating some crazy mind meld of a fish and a couple people. The other option for patches is that merfolk have some sort of kiss of life the way the red priests to and he is like a Beric or Stoneheart brought back missing part of himself. What the end game for that would be idk exactly but maybe the drowned god has some plan for him.

@@michaeltalksaboutstuff Yeah-I am wondering if Patchface {and Euron} were meant to be the Drowned God's "seer" {like Bran} and BR screwed with them. The process. Baelor as well. They all 3 have a weird thing for Ravens/Crows-Baelor tried replacing Ravens with doves lol...but Baelor shouldn't have been able to be messed with by BR since BR did not exist at that time. In fact-the whole Baelor shitshow reads to me like Baelor was wotking to prevent BR from being born. Weird. Anways-Patchface and Euron both should be for Drowned God since they both drowned. Right? Like...maybe they would have been..successful if something had not gone wrong AF. I don't know-it gets SO knotted up lol

@@michaeltalksaboutstuff If it's anything like IRL, weapons are usually stored in royal armories. And you don't empty them on a whim. Valyria was still a functioning country, and you could argue that a dragon riders family suddenly amassing a ton of valyrian steel weapons would raise a lot of questions from rivals. Maybe enough questions to delay/prevent them from relocating to Dragonstone. Better to pack up light and suddenly not being there to answer questions. And even if questions were asked, "Look, all my things are still there, I'll come back to Valyria later."
