Unfortunately, it removes details from the road like ruts, leaves and overall road textures. It's a shame we don't have a separate setting for vegetation because it's really overkill. I agree 100% that Low is the most realistic setting.

I think I would be lying if I say it's either of those. Actually it's always kinda both. We're simracers so we're competitive by nature. However with the vegetation so high and so dense, it felt kinda unrealistic to me. I've watched lots of real rally footage and I've never seen the vegetation hindering the driver from seeing the road. That's why a low or medium "ground cover" setting makes more sense than high. I just hope all these settings are not allowed when setting times online as this is cheeting as many of us whom race online use a console and we all compete together but don't have the options in game to change things to make it easier.. iff so all pc set times on the leader boards should be void..

Cheating?! Really? Those are settings in the game. What's next? Should I be running the game at ultra or else I'm cheating?! FPS games offer fov slider on PC while they don't offer that on consoles; should PC users refrain from using it then because it is "cheating"?! LOL. You don't even know what's cheating man.

@@simulationstimulation961 removing vegetation from the game is cheeting what next remove all rocks n logs & tree's ? There maybe sliders in your options for multiple things which is fine as long as its not online multi platform leaderboards. As reducing vegetation to increase visibility is cheeting this can only be fare iff were all to have the option to remove things on screen to help see the road.. I personally think the game seriously lacks off road hidden obstacles to stop the people out cutting across big parts of the track.. Anyway enjoy your rallying

@@squashedflyracing2310 of course you can be way faster on a rally that becomes miles shorter. I figured this out when watching Louise Cooke chasing a ghost in New England and she blurted out 'I see what you are doing, cheeky bastard" lol.

that's the mistake many make, they want to have the prettiest game and give away a lot of performance and set things that you don't notice when you're driving anyway. thanks for the great video, finally a person who focuses on the important things

Thanks man! Besides high settings doesn't even look realistic to me! I feel I'm in the Amazon forest all the time and it brings me out of immersion! It's just exaggerated in this game!

The important thing for me is to...well...simulate rally. In real life you would have vegetation. At this point just bring all graphic down and turn full assist mode to make it easier.

everything after skidmarks are off on my graphics settings, I have triple 4k screens but use Rift S all the time. With 1080ti. Lens flares and dust are just annoyances, the game developers seem to think we are robots with cameras for eyes and give us effects that only affect camera lenses, but, we have real eyes we don't suffer lens flares or lens dust, we are plying as if "we" are actually sat in the car. Not sat in the car looking through a camera. Also another tip, if you like to play dash or head cam position, when it's raining turn off shaders, all the rain disappears, you can even turn off your wipers.

Yeah while I agree with your first part, turning off rain isn't immersive nor realistic, as I play in the cockpit cam, and rain do indeed get on the car glass and wipers are highly needed! Thanks for commenting mate!

@@Coxy_Wrecked the rain graphic is just a white out, as clever as the graphics devs have been in the game, and the rain splooges do look amazing in the game, you can't focus through them like you can on a real windscreen, our eyes and brain are incredible for blurring out rain drops and wiper smears because we can focus on the physical road ahead outside of the screen, but, because the graphic is a flat 2d representation of this effect there isn't a focal point beyond the pixels to concentrate on, try it next time you drive a real car in heavy rain, it is totally nothing like in the game, you can only blurr out the whole image and not what is on the screen.

@@trevorjlewis No game game has graphics that perfectly represent real life,we are a long way off that. But to say no rain is better than having rain is frankly bizarre. Hey,I've got an idea,lets just turn off all graphical effects(seems like you're alomost doing this anyway) or better,lets scrap development of graphics engines altogether.Because graphics were so much better 20 years ago! I'm curious,do you have shadows enabled on your racing sims? Shadow and lighting is the single most importants factor in attempting to produce real world aesthetics.You can have the highest res textures and highest amount of polygon but without shadow and lighting the graphics will have no presence.Yet shadows are the first thing many sim racers turn off to boost framerates.

There's a button for cycle camera: 2 of those are fixed (cannot change or configure) while one of them is configurable. That configurable camera can be modified with the camera settings in: Game settings / Preferences / Camera field of view. Go to the narrowest option and start from there. I managed to compare it to other sims and decided which option looks the best. If you still need anything let me know.

@@markremillosa5081 yeah that's normal man. For me it's the same but the angle of the webcam from where i shot the video makes it look better. But for me to my eyes, it's stretched. DR2.0 doesn't support true triple monitors.

So you are playing simulator (or at least arcade-sim), and you are making a suggestion to turn off the foliage, basically making the ground empty. Is that correct? Can you explain the reasoning, because this makes no sense.

@@N1DE0N 1st, I suggested LOW not OFF as that looks horrible. 2nd, I feel LOW is the most realistic setting since medium and high feel like I'm doing a rally in the amazon forests all the time (at least in my opinion). 3rd, cheating?!? So using a setting in the game is cheating?!? Wow. I guess the devs are cheaters then. 4th, it gives a performance boost, especially in VR. 5th, it allows for better visibility of the road. Hope that helps :)

Not to that extent. Drivers drive the stages many times before the real go. So they are a bit familiar with it and they study it. Of course the Copilot us very important but it won't be catastrophic if you miss a call. What would be catastrophic is if the copilot calls the wrong corner.

LOL. And who said I don't?! If I didn't I would have enabled those stupid "upcoming corner arrows" but I turn these off for more realism. However this is not the topic of this video. I'm arguing that the amount of grass, or to be specific the height of that grass isn't so realistic and therefore a medium or low setting makes more sense than the high setting, and it also adds visibility and performance. So why not?! But as you said, to each his own.

Hehe check my other videos man. I had VR before getting triples and was actually a "VR ONLY" guy for a long time but the inconvenience of it and lots of other factors lead me to completely ditch it. Actually my 2nd most watched video is a deep comparison between VR, triples and ultrawide; too deep and too detailed I'd say lol

@@simulationstimulation961 yeah VR is in it's baby stages right now, but things will get better with time. Waiting for microLED headsets like the big screen beyond or valves next headset.. not sure if you have seen early big screen beyond reviews, but it's looking mighty fine. no more screen door effect so it literally looks like a normal monitor now when it comes to clarity, and the size is also very small and lightweight, you could even use it as a monitor replacement for everything if you wanted to. the only downside is the price $999 + you need your own controllers and base stations so that's easily another $600 on top. I personally can't play racing games on flat screens anymore after playing VR for years now..skipped through your long 50minute video, and read the chapters, not gonna watch the entire thing. seems like a decent video though, but my attention span is that of a 12 year old school girl lmao.

The point is exactly that. Get me a track or stage that has that much grass and I'll use it in-game. The grass length and density in-game is NOT realistic and I've spoken to a real rally marshall that told me that in reality the organizers would cut all dangerous or high grass especially on corners because they lead to a hazard and safety risk. 1- it's more realistic (drivers have visibility for the ur safety and tall gras is usually trimmed). 2- I want to see better not go around corners blind.

Really?! So the level of foliage defines the simulation?! Who said anyways that Codemasters were accurate with it? Where do you find rallies where the vegetation covers the road for you and makes a safety hazard?! Don't you know that the rally officials will cut them off to provide best visibility for drivers and reduce safety risks?!
