I'll tell you why Morten Harket looks more 80's than 80's. He actually introduced that look - with the wristbands and torn jeans.

My favourite a-ha song (next to "The Sun Always Shines on TV") is probably their comeback single "Summer Moved On" from 2000. Also love "Foot of the Mountain" from 2009. "Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurrah)" from 2010 is also beautiful with its retrospective video. Going back to the 80s/90s: Listen to "I've Been Losing You", "Manhattan Skyline", "Cry Wolf" and "Crying in the Rain".

@@JSteezy Yes, they did a "farewell tour" in 2010, but returned with a new album "Cast in Steel" in 2015 when invited to the 30th anniversary Rock-in-Rio concert, where they as already mentioned had the world record for a paying rock concert audience from '91.

the sun always shines on tv got to number one in England were was take on me only got to number 3. Other interesting fact about a-ha, in 1991 they played a 25 date tour of South America with a total attendance of over 3 million people, including one gig that had 198,000 people which was a Guinness book of record for a paying audience.

Morten isn’t trying to look 80’s he defines the 80’s for most people. He accidentally ripped his jeans on an amplifier when he was rushing on stage and his ripped jeans were noticed and then copied, went global, and became the craze that’s still around today...sometimes it’s wrongly attributed to Madonna. He also started the leather wristband look which was his trademark look. He is the furthest thing from cheesy you could ever imagine, and everything you see about his looks comes completely natural to him...he’s just the most naturally sexy guy ever, and even at 61 he still is. He hated the fact that the press always focussed on his good looks, and all the band wanted was to write and perform great music. They are actually one of the best live bands of the past 35 years...bar none, and have influenced Coldplay and Keane to name but two younger bands. You really just have no idea about this band at all, they have sold over 100 million records with virtually no sales in the USA except for Take On Me, the mind boggles at what their sales would’ve been had they been marketed properly there. They hold 2 Guinness World records and did a James Bond theme, and sell out stadia around the world at any of their live concerts, their current world tour was interrupted due to Covid, but they hope to resume it with rescheduled dates in 2021.

I apprecaite this! I have been hearing this more and more and I'm sorry that I didn't see or know this before the video. Of course, my impression is coming from someone that was born somewhat well after the 80's, so how is one to know such a thing? It's interesting, of all the things we hear and glorify of the 80's, I have never really heard that this guy was such a trend setter. For me, I'm looking back at this pile of music that defined an era and a style so it all somewhat bleeds together. Without doing really thorough research, I have no way of telling how the 80's came to be what it was but it seems this guy played a major part. Definitely some cool history to be learned here, if it's all true. Thank you.

Morten is not tryimg to look like the 80’s, he was the 80’s, and the one who started the trend (leather/jeans etc). I remember everyone was going around wearing different leather arm bands just as Morten (even I did, being a girl). He was a trend setter for sure....and every girl/women wanted to be his girlfriend. If you want to check out one of their newer songs try «Foot of the mountain (from 2009)/«Shadowside» or from their last album «Cast in steel» (2015)», «Under the make up»

It erased my additional comment, when I was searching for another official video... Ok. I'll try to remember, what I wrote. You cannot go by the amount of views from a-ha on KZfaq. The band was big in the 1980s and according to USA a 'one-hit-wonder'. Not for the fans in Europe and Asia! 10 albums in total, 3 in the 1980s and a new album in tbe making for 2022 (according to Wikipedia, 😵) I'VE BEEN LOSING YOU, HUNTING HIGH AND LOW were great songs and even their cover of CRYING IN THE RAIN. After posting the link to the 50M view title track of their album STAY ON THESE ROADS there is another very interesting video in comic-style: MANHATTAN SKYLINE [SPOILER ALERT] The title of this song are actually the very last 2 words of this song... Here the link to that song: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jb9ipZVpspe4oo0.html And if you want to watch another very interesting video of this band then search for FOREVER NOT YOURS...you'll not regret it!

A little review I did for this track, hope you don't mind and it gives some context! Inarguable pop classics #1: A-ha: The Sun Always Shines on TV News Opinion Preview Inarguable pop classics #1: A-ha: The Sun Always Shines on TV February 13, 20152 min readNikolai Rainbow Norwegian pop perfectionists A-ha were always more than just another pop group, such was their reach and mastery of their craft: pretty much any of their 80’s singles could have made this article bar their lightweight playful songs such as “Touchy!” which to my mind never could match their darker more tense songs, and my god, “The Sun Always Shines …” is tense as hell, especially coming after the worldwide smash Take On Me which was far more poppy and lightweight. It’s essentially a progressive rock epic filtered through a pop lens and is every bit as momentous as any of the great epic tracks we all know and love. Consider the way the tension builds throughout rising higher and higher and the fact that the drums don’t even appear until a minute in and the first verse almost two minutes in. This is far from your average pop song structurally but hangs together magnificently. The relative serenity of the opening section and first chorus with its wistful chords suddenly gives way to pounding intensity, squealing guitars, ominous synth and stabbing minor piano chords with Mortens impassioned, desperate and impossibly high vocal holding it all together until the final chorus where the music crashes around him. Before a final stabbing piano chord a la “A Day In The Life” and the ominous burbling synths return to fade us out of an epic five minutes. Truly a classic of its time or any other and far more than ‘just’ a pop song in my humble opinion and just as exhilarating on the thousandth listen as it was on the first. True class.

As Norwegian - I always played down A-Ha since I was more into punk - rock and prog and all that good shit. They were a boy-band - right? As I am older now - these boys were framed as a boyband ca 7 years before Nirvana came around and defined another straightjacket - Grunge (and defined the neo-garage sound). Almost 3 decades later, I am pretty sure Foo Fighters could do this song without irony. And when one listens to FF's latest single "shame shame" - there are call-backs in there. (Listen to how Dave Grohl does the "train-pattern" on the high-hat on Hero. If Aha had been discovered 2 years later - I bet they would be traded by the record company as "alternative" - in the time just before Prince went a bit funny as "symbol" to reclaim his identity back in the days.

They have performed it in to separate nobel peace prize concerts, in 1998 and in 2015. I guess you're thinking about the one from 2015? They are both on KZfaq, and their performance in 1998 was the first time they played together for four years after their first brake.

That's a cool fav song! I intend to dig into more 80's stuff. Funny time in music. A lot of stuff sounds kind of bad and cheesy but some sounds very ahead of the time in many ways. This if true for all genres of music but I think it is true for 80's because this was when Digital equipment started to have a heavy influence and presence in music all around and what may have sounded good to some didn't for others. The standards and opinions were all up in the air, I mean. I actually really love a few songs by Tears for Fears. However, one of my least favorite songs of all time is also by them. I will do a reaction of those and try to be fair haha. Sorry for the long comment. You got me started haha :) cheers!

@@JSteezy Morten Harkett is the most non bullshit non cheesy guy on the planet In real life. My friends brother did some music with him in Sweden and knows him as he has lived in Sweden for years. Mortens over serious when being interviewed.! Most interviewers annoyed him in the 80s because they would just go on about how good looking he was and ask him dumb questions. Morten was always a very serious and deep and hated the fakeness and dumbness of fame. This was very early Aha so he was doing some cheesy moves but went on to an amazing, very special, very cool band with loads of amazing songs and Morten is one the best singers with widest vocal range and power who ever lived.

The interviewer is asking good questions, and the band members are telling about this first periode, when they were young and naive. They also touch why they never got big in the US. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y6-jabB_09q6gJs.html
