Also like, always fun to see Marie and how you handle her.. I'd have lost so many fingers already. You're literally grabbing her and lifting her out of the water and she doesn't even try to flee/snap/... Her next secret ability? This behaviour right there 😁 ... if you don't mind me asking: how did you notice she was gaining weight? Because for a musk, she has a pretty large plastron (I guess?) so you don't actually see much of her shoulders? Do you weigh her or were the fat rolls around her neck enough of an indicator?

I know! Marie needs to up her game and stop allowing some to get away!! 😂 Oh brilliant! Do you breed your own aswell? She's a strange one, if my fingers are in front of her then they're fair game, food! But if I pick her up and nothing's in her eyeline then everything's fine and dandy, no problem whatsoever... Does your not like being touched at all? I know some of them hate it 😂 I really should've filmed it to be honest but she became rather podgy, almost bulging out of her shell around her legs and neck (google ''overweight turtle'', the first few pics are what I mean, not near that bad though...). It happens time to time with her which is only natural to be fair, keeping a perfect constant weight is unlikely and arguably unhealthy. It's natural to gain and lose gradually.

@@sg_animals. I do breed mine as well! I have a nanocube for the bladder and ramshorn snails. It's also fun to actually watch them. Mine does in fact "not like being touched" but that itself is already an euphemism. When I'm doing tank maintenance she will go from "ohhhh fingers ? food??" to "I'm too young to die!!" in a split second if i accidentally touch her. I had to get her out a couple of times last year to treat an eye infection, and went into the tank with (washed..) garden gloves and a hand net (dip net...?) I held in front of her face. She bit into the outer rim of the net at full force and musked at me right after ._. So yeah, I only handle her if I can't avoid it. Hmm alright, I mean mine's never been on the skinny side as well and I also have to watch out for weight gain.. Honestly, putting a reptile on a diet is so excruciating and slow 😩 I am a bit paranoid about mine developing eggs because previously she was kept in such bad conditions that she just never developed any... now she's got a land section/ eggbox and everything but I'm worried that something will go wrong somehow and I'm missing some signs? And excessive pudginess despite not increasing food could also point to eggs simply starting to take up some space in the shell. Anyways, thanks for the info and I know exactly what you mean :D (Though to be honest - musk turtles always look a bit pudgy to me because of their small plastron.)

Ramshorns are smaller so I wouldn't be surprised! Probably sneaked away at some point. Hahah, guppies are one of the worst for that! One day you have 5 and the next day you've got 30 😂
