Hi great video, 🙏 thank you. We are struggling to get our Leo gecko to eat, and are trialing different sized locusts. Are the smaller locust ok to go in with the larger ? Tia . Justin

Great video! What about heating? Could you suggest me some heat lamp?
@sg_animals.
@sg_animals. Ай бұрын
Hey, sorry I've only just seen this and your other comment. My reptile shed keeps a steady ambient temp but I'd recommend a ceramic heat lamp (with a guard) inside the enclosure, if you're in the UK, I normally use Arcadia or Pro-rep. You can use a heat mat if you like but secure it to the back or side of the enclosure, they go into the substrate to thermoregulate so you don't want to set it up underneath. They do benefit from a light cycle so having an LED on a timer will be great for the beetles and the plants 😄 Hope this helps!

@sg_animals.
@sg_animals. Ай бұрын
Temporarily yes, I started off with a similar size, slightly taller. But they will quickly outgrow it, especially with the rate they produce offspring. They're very active and also slightly territorial so the more space the better. You'll likely get a year or two out of an enclosure that size but definitely upgrade, the bigger the better!

Sand is normally recommended for keeping, some people use oats which I tried once, but found they were a pain for retaining moisture, causing raised humidity and then producing a mite outbreak. So I'd definitely recommend sand if you intend to keep them long term.

Great video, I have some questions about heat and light. For larvae i would like to use a heat pad placed outisde the box, at a few cm of distance feom the side. For adults i was thinking about e heat lamp. Do they need a proper light simulating day and night for a proper survivaland reproduction?

Sorry for the extra late reply.. Charlie dropping her tail was always a fear of mine but it's not something that's ever happened to and it turns out, I was misinformed, Chinese water dragons can't drop their tails at all and I'll be editing this video to remove that segment.

Is ok to give my musk turtle Oysters❓❓❓
@sg_animals.
@sg_animals. 5 ай бұрын
I can't imagine freshwater mollusc to be an issue but typical shop bought oysters would be brackish or saltwater mollusc. It likely isn't something a musk turtle would ever come across and for that reason I'd say no, better safe than sorry.

@@sg_animals. Thankyou for giving me your guess on the matter. She is a logger head musk, around 25yrs old, and of course it's cold right now so her appetite is very low. She does have a heat lamp , but I still think she is responding to the season. Tmr I planned on calling a reptil expert about the issue and if he gives me a definite answer I'll let ya know. Btw... the oysters I purchased are raw, shell free saltwater oysters, with no other ingredients added.

Hi Sean, it's great to see another video from you. I'm really excited to see a more in-depth video of the new Mourning Gecko vivarium. I was amazed to see how well the White Clouds are doing in the tank with Marie. I still haven't risked putting fish in with the Musk Turtle at school - I imagine screaming children if it went wrong! I know it's sad to lose your pets, but they have had good and healthy lives with you, and probably wouldn't have lived so long with other owners - they're very lucky. Who else would take a month of unpaid leave to improve the lives of their animals? As always, I look forward to your future videos.

I'll get to work on editing the gecko build ;) I find the white clouds to generally be okay but it's very much a case of small fast fish, largish aquarium and breaking the line of sight. Hopefully one day they don't make me eat my words aha. You're too kind and always say the right things to help me gain another perspective. I really hope you have a great week and thank you again for all of your support!

I read somewhere Dubias shouldn't be kept as they can cause allergies in some people. I've just saved a box of them from a pet store as I thought they would be interesting to keep. I already have a colony of isopods. Has anyone experienced any allergies keeping these guys? Many thanks
@sg_animals.
@sg_animals. 6 ай бұрын
I've no doubt it's a circumstance that's occurred with some people before but I've known hundreds of keepers and breeders and I've honestly never heard of people being allergic to them. It may well be a possibility but I don't think it's a common one as far as I'm aware..

Can you use this setup for a baby musk? This type of setup & depth suitable only for adults?
@sg_animals.
@sg_animals. 9 ай бұрын
Musk turtles aren't good swimmers so this setup with more wood etc for them to climb to the surface would make it suitable. But for young turtles still learning how to swim, it is better to have roughly half this depth to allow them to reach the surface easier. Better safe than sorry y'know 😁
