RogueBook feels VERY familiar to fans of classics like Slay The Spire but it takes things in a hybrid RPG style that works really well. A big thanks to the publisher for asking if we’d cover this in some way and when I played it - it wasn’t exactly a difficult choice, great game! Here are our thoughts and why we think it might be a good game to add to the wishlist! #NEW #NintendoSwitch #HiddenGem

Yes! Thank you for covering this! I must admit I expected this game to get a lot more attention than it has on Switch, based on its lineage and popularity on PC. It's been disheartening to see just how few channels have even mentioned it, much less reviewed it. Which is too bad, because this is a game I think a lot of Switch players would enjoy. For anyone still on the fence, this game does quite a bit to differentiate itself from other popular deckbuilders. The map/ink system is the most obvious difference, but you also have the two party system with all the various interactions and strategies that brings forward, plus a relatively deep gem system for upgrading cards. There's also a whole other class of cards known as "allies" that you can add to your deck. These summon a permanent ally which cannot be attacked and which will remain for the length of the battle. These allies tend to either attack enemies, shield you, or provide some other benefit, and are a pretty big game changer. You can build an entire deck strategy around allies alone. They're that good. Additionally, while most deckbuilders require players to keep a small deck in order to gain frequent access to the best cards, this game strongly encourages larger decks by tying super helpful skill unlocks to specific deck size thresholds. It really does get me thinking about things in a different way than games like Slay the Spire or Monster Train. Don't get me wrong, I love those too... but this is a breath of fresh air, and deserves far more attention than it has received. My thanks to the SwitchUp team for doing their part to help viewers find this hidden gem. Good stuff.

Since you asked about card-based games, one that's been coming back into my mind a lot lately is Signs of the Sojourner. I've played through it twice, and it has some balance issues (e.g. the negative cards quickly overtake your deck, needs a NG+ mode so you can more easily explore different paths), but I loved the idea of using a card game as symbolism for communicating with others and the story's really stuck with me. It's been months since I played, but I was reading a cozy book recently, and it made me want to go just one more path through Signs of the Sojourner again.

I've loved this game on my switch! I agree with the SwitchUp team here, but performance has plagued me a bit where it takes 10sec or so for the card I selected to register on the screen. The shop text is incredibly hard for me to read in handheld and I wish they would incorporate a zoom feature. Still, amazing game despite my gripes.

I havent heard of this one before, the vibrant colors and art direction come together creating a strong sense of fantasy adventure, and that really appeals to me in addition to being a card battler. I have a weak spot for knight and that sort of thing. It was hidden alright, and seems to be a gem as well from your description! Rogue like/lite card battler have become somewhat of a favorite genre for me as of late, i have always loved turn based strategic games. I recently Double dipped on Slay the spire on the switch, and have already put 110h+ into it. The gameplay is simply amazing but doesnt stand up to this in visuals charm. I have also played Griftlands, which i found to be good enough, but it does lack something. And also Steamworld Quest which i absolutely adore, fun gameplay, good story, interesting characters that also challanges gender stereotypes and tropes. I havent tried Monster Train yet, and from what i have heard it will occupy a good chunk of my time when i eventually do buy it.

Great video, I’ve been eyeing this one since I noticed it in the recent releases section on the eshop. I just picked up griftlands in the latest eshop sale and haven’t put it down since, it scratches my slay the spire itch but I really like that it’s narratively driven as well as a roguelike!

The way you uncover land really reminds me of Age of Empires back in the dizay, procedural generation in its infancy so to speak and when you stumble across an enemy encampment in the shadows of uncertainty with your scout/ranger you frantically click back to flee and hope you weren’t seen. I also only have a Lite, and haven't had much trouble reading things. At first I thought the text size of cards in the store was too small (something I've seen a few others mention), but then I realized I could click on each card to bring it up larger without automatically buying it. There are some bits of text on the smaller side (ie, if you go to the top bar and highlight your various relics), but I'm able to read it without any trouble. For context, my vision isn't perfect (I have issues glasses can't fix), so if I'm getting by with it, most people probably can. That said, maybe look up some Switch gameplay footage if you're unsure. Hopefully the devs will add a text size option in the future for those who need their text a bit larger.

Wow nice surprise and what a gem it looks like! Rogue lites have quickly become my favorite genre and I really hope rogue legacy 2 comes to switch because I’ll double dip on that for sure. Thanks for the review I’ll favorite this and pick it up eventually no doubt.

I've been holding off on this one since it was released on the steam because I knew it was coming to switch. The switch to me is the absolutely best platform to play deck builders, so excited it finally got released on switch! Slay the spire is probably my favourite deck builder but as it's already so well known I'd like to toss out Steam World Quest. Humour in the Steam World Games is so well done, and it's kind of fun to play a deck builder with a story instead of the the roguelike formula form time to time.

Griftlands, Monster train and hand of fate 2 are my go to when it comes to deckbuilding roguelikes on the switch 💜 roguebook would make an amazing addition to those three. And please, anyone who hasnt, go play griftlands, you will absolutly love it 😁

Maybe i missed mentioned in the vid: does it have touch controls? The main reason griftlands doesn’t see play on my switch is because for card games i want to blob on my bed like jabba the hutt and use as few buttons as possible. I have 200 hours in slay the spire and like 60 in monster train. Love em both and will check this out most likely. Fav card game on switch is Shadowverse. Closest thing ive found to the old pokemon tcg gameboy game. Not a roguelike, more akin to hearthstone or yugioh

I've never played this kind of game before, I always just wrote them off as not for me. I just spent the weekend engrossed in Dorfromantik (I know it's not the same genre but it falls under the umbrella of "not for me" or at least did) and its opened my eyes so much to a huge world of games that might actually be for me. So, F you very much Dorfromantik, it's not like my backlog wasn't already huge :/ haha

I was severely addicted to Loop Hero when it came out. Unfortunately, once you beat the game, there isn't much to come back to. But the right was fantastic while it lasted.

Bought this on PC the day it prelaunched and spent 50 hours in back then Love the hell out of this. I prefer it to Slay The Spire and I spent a shit ton of time with that too. They've added more content now so I should go back.
