Presented by Paul Spriggs, Spriggs Gardens Landscaping Company and President of the Vancouver Island Rock and Alpine Garden Society, on November 20, 2021
Paul Spriggs, from British Columbia, will tell us about the history of crevice rock gardening and how this style of gardening allows us to push the limits on the kinds of plants we can grow, whether in dry or wet climates. Crevice garden is the catchword of the day in gardening because it allows drainage in wet climates and in dry climates crevices allow roots to go deeply in the soil and become insulated from heat. The style of gardening originated in the Czech Republic and has spread widely in North America, and it has the potential of drawing more people into rock gardening than any other style. The reason for the growing popularity is that crevice gardens are beautiful interpretations of nature, and they allow rock plants to grow at their best.
