It looks like at some point in the mid-2000s, all the metal bands discovered 7-string guitars and the riffs dropped down a fifth!

More modern metal bands have a whole arsenal of effects and production techniques at their disposal to make their music heavier. Black Sabbath though managed to take basically the same equipment as the Beatles and the Stones and write something so heavy with it that they needed a whole new name for it.

And the fact it was YYZ makes it even more badass. Many Rush songs require a pretty high skill level. They are still one ultimate underdog bands, thats why I love them. But I think there is an ongoing debate if they are truly metal. I think some of their earlier work could definitely be metal, based on the definition of metal in the 70s. They went on a complex musical genre journey, becoming more hard/progressive rock in the 80s. RIP Neil....

U are all noobs XD the first metal song was "u really got me" from the Kings. First song with powerchords and a distorted sound and played in metal style. That was 1964. The first time a band get the brand heavy metal is was Cream. The first heavy metal band named so was Blue Cheer. We all know this "heavy metal thinger" from steppenwolfs born to be wild song, this was the first time the word pop up in lyrics. Hendrix clear was inviter of distorted sound in a new context and is and influenced metal massive. Did u know Alice Cooper with his Band had his album out in 1969? Iron Butterfly, two albums 1968. Other artist not so popular i not will name now but Black Sabbath was sure not the first heavy metal band. People got knowledge from music will also realize BS is no typical rock band because they more was an unconventional jazz-/jazz-rock band.

I don't know if was on purpose, but the YT ads was placed in the end of the video. This was very respectful and because of this, I watched both ads to help the channel. Hell yeah bro, all metal is good metal \m/! Everybody’s got their own opinions and preferences about it and there’s something for everyone :) Personally, what defines something as metal FOR ME is how hard hitting it can sound. It can groove and build up tension, make you wanna go outside and like fight a tree or just do something ACTIVE to get all of the energy out, while keeping the spirit of the music alive which is something I truly appreciate about the art form. It’s part of the reason why I love newer bands like After the Burial and Wage War, they just bring the heat and bring it HARD!

For me, I can’t deal with the heavier stuff. I tend to stick around nu metal, a little thrash, and whatever the hell genre Slipknot wants to be considered. I mostly listen to Slipknot, Mushroomhead, recently FFDP, Disturbed, Ozzy, and A7X. There may be a few bands I left out but this should give a good idea as to the metal I listen to the most.

@TheBlackQueen 4 жыл бұрын
@@Djerov2 Van Halen were more Pop Metal than Glam Metal, but given their debut came out in 1978, that was pretty metal for the time. They have more metal than people care to realise. As for AC/DC, they are pretty much the embodyment of Hard Rock, like Metal's little brother. Metalheads back then still loved AC/DC and were often still associated with Metal. We just later disassociated them with the genre. As for Rush, they were pioneers of Progressive Metal and went full on Metal in the 2000s. YYZ's opening riff alone was pretty heavy which is probably why he played it. Their early work from their first few albums were also classic metal.
