Saying that "metal is dead" is such a clickbait and it goes to show one knows nothing of what's going on with the genre. It's never been so alive, the underground scene is rampaging, so many bands with so many good releases every year. If only people would stop listening to fucking Sleep Token or Metallica bs and stop caring about mainstream bands...

The greatest part about metal is, if it’s really 2024 - there is that many amazing releases that hold up and don’t date themselves…. I don’t even need to reference one as we know its true!! Therefore the question is metal dead, should be left to no one to ask or answer….. when listening to the greatest albums of metal, time and space have no relevant concept ….. oh year except 2112 cos thats a year… Whats the question again?

High On Fire just put out a new album a couple months ago absolutely grinds. Burning Down very quickly got added to my 'make my neighbours want to kill me' playlist.

Opeth at their worst is still light years ahead of like 95% of all metal bands. I kind of understand your comments about the first couple of albums but I still reall enjoy them. Songwriting improved markedly with Still Life and then Blackwater Park was lifted with the production and songwriting help from Steven Wilson. What I love most is how well 12 minute songs still come together in a live setting. One of my favourite bands ever.

Honestly, I feel like Senjutsu is actually the worst of the last 3, like, easily. At least the other had a few good songs, Senjutsu just plods along with the sound of total mediocrity.

I've never heard of Psycho Sexual before, buuut as someone who enjoys Steel Panther and cheesy 60s/70s movies depicting the devil, usually with erotic undertones, i need to check them out. Modern day art/media is severely lacking in cheesy devil depictions :(
