The disturbing part about the skinwalker’s lure is that when you hear it, the walker already knows you’re there. And that it’s just trying to bait you closer. Absolutely terrifying.

The voices is what will keep me from going into a forest. The idea of something luring by pretending to be someone in need is terrifying. Somehow it's scarier to me when it doesn't flawlessly mimic someone. Either a call being said in half a breathe, the cadence and emphasis being greatly mismatched and that it uses the exact same samples, like it's only heard 3 screams but it keeps repeating those three exactly every time. God, that's scaring me thinking about it.

@Barrythebarnabas
@Barrythebarnabas 10 ай бұрын
It literally is mimicking, the thing is that it doesn’t ever hear people say “help” with full pronunciation or any words really so it can’t clearly articulate it and simply adjust volume for distance like humans would yell louder and at a distance the acute pronunciation wouldn’t be as noticeable so skinwalkers imitate the only sounds they know from humans; screams of terror. Creepy how they’re aware of humans empathy too and use it against us

Lots of animals can sound human. Especially when distressed. Anyone who doesn't spend time in the wilderness could easily think an animal is a human yelling. Mountain lions, racoons, deer and elk, rabbits can all sound similar to humans... Crows can actually mimic. There are real dangers to worry about out there, but shape shifters are probably not one of them.

I love how its actually in tune with skin walker lore. As when the kid acknowledged the screaming at the end, it suddenly began chasing them. In navoho lore im pretty sure that the big rule is do not acknowledge noises that walkers make, as they will know that you can hear them and they will come for you
@ghoulishgoober3122
@ghoulishgoober3122 10 ай бұрын
Not really. Yee Naaldlooshii is the word Navajo use for Skinwalkers, and mostly Skinwalkers are exclusive to the Navajo but hypothetically any Witch Doctor could become a Skinwalker. Yee Naaldlooshii roughly translates to "by any means of it, he goes on all fours". Whistling is believed to be one of the noises that gets their attention, as well as talking about them in general. To acknowledge the sound might be in the beliefs somewhere but I've only heard about what I said. Looking them in the eyes can have significance, if only because they have cast aside their humanity, so to look into the eyes would be like looking into a void, something soulless but undoubtedly human. They cast aside their humanity by denouncing their human name and killing the one closest to them. The one who would be their main motivation for staying in the human world. This is why saying their name has significance. You invoke the very thing they cast aside for enhanced physical abilities and shapeshifting power. A skinwalker attack looks less like what's depicted in the movie. Multiple things can happen. Yes they might mimic the voices of loved ones but they don't mimic the shape of them, that's Goat Men. They'll also run laps around your house, just the pounding of hooves or heavy feet doing 360s around your home, or stomping on your roof. After this if you inspect your home you might find the actual means of attack, a "fetish" which is pieces of you like your hair or urine, mixed with animal bones and other unpleasant things, then left on your property to bring negative energy, misfortune, and sickness to your body. Usually beneath your house, like under your porch, or hanging on a tree at the treeline of your property, somewhere you likely won't notice unless you knew to look for a fetish afterward to get rid of it.

The way old man just slowly turns around when hearing the noises, not freaking out, it’s so much more realistic. Being someone who hunts and has spent a good bit of time in the woods before the sun has even come up I don’t freak out when I hear a stick snap. The way people react to noises in the woods is a lot calmer, it feels like stretching your ears to see if you can discern what it was just by the noise. The way the skinwalker moved as it ran towards the protagonist just hit me with the same huge horrible feeling I had when I experienced something when I was younger. I decided to take a walk from my house to the local church... and it just so happened that this walk was at about 2-3 AM on a near-moonless night. I don't really know why exactly I went on that walk, but I suffer from agoraphobia hard and leaving the house when it's dark and nobody is around to see me is the only time I would ever consider it and this was the first time I had ever gone on a walk like that in a long, long time. I didn't bring a flashlight with me and I didn't want to have my phone's flash on the entire time I was walking, so I just had my phone out at max brightness to give me enough light to walk safely (enough) across roads to get to where I was going. My church is a bit over 2 miles away from where I live, so this is a decently long walk back and forth. On the way there, I get to about 15~ minutes in and suddenly see something large and light-colored dash out of the bushes on my right, silently sprint across the road, and then vanish into the dark bushes on my left almost immediately; my vision length was basically just how much light Chrome was giving me, so I didn't have much to work with, but it was far away enough for it to not have been any closer than 18-20 feet. It scared the shit out of me, but I quickly calmed myself and said "shit, must have been a deer" and kept walking. Less than 2 minutes later, my hair stood up and that other part of the brain had the thought "wait... a deer doesn't run like that." This was immediately followed by the thoughts of "are... deer supposed to be that same light-greyish color?" ... "Wasn't that more human-shaped running on all fours?" I have never been more fucking terrified in my life. I did still walk all the way to the church and back, but holy shit was I terrified the entire time. The reason I didn't go back at first was because the thought hit me of "well, if I turn around, I'll be turning my back on where it went..." and I sure as fuck didn't want that. I don't believe in any supernatural shit at all, but I, to this day, have no fucking idea what the hell that thing could have even been for it to have been that big, that color, that silent, and ran like that. I have never gone on any walks after that.

Jesus Christ....Just saw the vid of the Hollow tree, then read your posting and i am just terrified. mostly because I think I've seen something seriously weird before. I'm a retired soldier and I have been to Combat many times so the prospect of dying in the field, never bother me as much (although I always preferred to shoot them) but this shit that happened to me, had terrified me for 15 years plus... I was station in FT. Bragg back in 2008 and a few of us guys went Deer Hunting in W. Virginia like in the dead ass cold of November. I admit, I have never been hunting, so I made them promise, if I did get something, they will walk me through skinning, and all that good stuff (I was determined to make me some Deer Jerky). We were divided in two pairs, but always between sight of each other. sometime during the evening hours, I see a big ass Deer with a shit lot of antlers...I'm like Fuck yeah waited all damn day and now boom gonna bag me this fucker. I told "Michael" (not his real name) to look where it was and he paused and freaked the fuck out. All i heard him say was "Oh my lord save me". he was really frightened, and his face scared me... then I looked at the deer through the scope and I will swear on the life of my children, the fucking deer was kind of standing in two legs, like straight up and i don't know how like his front legs were like really long...that didn't make sense to me...and then the damn thing turned its head towards were we were.... I know it was getting darker and shit, but I know what i saw, I just didn't understand it. Out the blue, "Michael" took off running and he just yelled "RUN!! NOW, JUST FUCKIN RUN". I stood there for a sec, I was trying to understand why the fuck should i run from a deer, I even thought "oh man maybe they're fucking with my newbie ass"...but when i looked again through the scope "it" was gone...Like, not there, Gone!!! I think that's when panic kicked in and I bolted out of there following "Michael", and I'm telling you this guy was in a full sprint towards where we park the Truck, He was yelling to our other friends to GTFO and head to the truck. man we just ran and ran like Lucifer himself was behind us...."Michael" kept turning around and looking back, and I did too, but I didn't see shit...We got by the truck and he literally threw his shit, including his "mightier than thou" rifle and was screaming to get in and drive off. We all looked at each other and said fuck this and basically threw our gear in the back and drove to the Hotel. The entire drive back "Michael" was like in shock, mumbling to himself and saying some odd shit. I kept asking what the fuck just happened? He literally shouted at me to STFU and just to drive faster and that he was never going hunting again....we were really concerned, i had no idea why was he like that, because he was like the biggest Redneck hunter in the entire Post, i shit you not. (lots of deer heads and pics of all kinds of shit he hunted and mounted, you know the type). The other guys kept asking me what the hell happened, did we see a bear or something...but i didn't wanna talk about it while he was all messed up, freaking the fuck out... So we get back to the Hotel, and we were sharing the rooms like two rooms, 2 beds each and he told us we were all staying in together in one room or he was gonna get a UBER all the way to FT. Blevins in VA. He was in a full panic, so We all agreed and we stayed in the same room, and he had his shotgun on his hand aiming at the door the entire night, only slept on our drive home the next day. On our drive back while he was asleep, the guys asked me what the hell would scare "Michael" so bad, and i told them it was not a bear or anything, and what i saw... These two guys looked at each other and they told me "Deer's don't stand in two legs, let alone straight up, bro" literally no one could say what the fuck was that. Almost getting home, one of the guys was Googling shit and he said that Maybe he thought it was a WENDIGO....and "Michael" knew what it was when he saw it. we like looked at each other and I said lets change subjects...mainly cause i was starting to freak out again.... All i know is that months after that happened, after the holidays and all that, "Michael" was seeing counselors at the Medical center, mainly to deal with a traumatic even. I remember asking him once if he would talk about it and this guy gave me a dead look and told me never ever again asking him about that day. I am not gonna state that in fact I saw a damn WENDIGO....shit I had to look it up many times, trying to understand what I saw, what the hell happened that day, even trying to convince myself that maybe it was just my imagination....so no way I'm saying that's what it was....but what I am damn certain of is this... what I saw, what scared this guy worse I've ever seen before, ever, was definitely not a damn deer. I know this in my heart. Whatever it was, has me kept me spooked for years and keeping a gun next to me ever since. Oh and by the way, Never again I've been back in the woods...day or night...ever. Fuck the woods, I'm keeping my ass in the city.

@@Tricky561 Deer can stand on their hind legs and bucks do so fairly commonly. They’re also fast- that deer bolted, rather than “disappeared” from your eyesight. Sounds like Michael had a mental breakdown (hey, war will f you up) and the rest of you were taken along for the ride. It was a lucky day for that buck, though. It’s not the Wendigo or the deer in the woods you have to fear - it’s other people.

Ive seen skin walkers on various occasions, mostly in Arizona, but also in Colorado near the four corners. The first time, i was a really little kid. And i seen this big completely white dog, snow white, atleast when i was 5 thats what i thought it was. I went out of the tent to take a leak and seen it waking towards our camp where it simply sat when it got to about a little less than half a football field away. This was at 500am in the summer so it was just breaking dawn. The experience was odd, firstly it was super curious. Secondly it was something ive never seen before, nor in that area for that matter. The most odd part about my first experience was that the animal displayed what i would call almost a playful demeanor. It nevee got close enough to scare me but wasnt far enough that i felt entirely safe. Its eyes were piercing, i recall the animals coat being white like it was yesterday, but i cannot recall its eye color. But i do remember them being really pretty almost enchanting, and out of this world. Why would a snow white massive dog not be noticed by anyone in the pondersoa forests near flagstaff is beyond me, and why would a skinwalker choose white, the worst camouflage ever. Its mannerisms is what set that animal apart from your average canine, it seemed very aware and conscious, human even. I tried making noises like small noises not to scare it off but to see what would happen. It would tilt its head and just look at me, its gaze spoke volumes something i have a hard time explaining to folks. The next was a crow, and after that a coyote. The coyote was an odd one as well, as it seemed to take pleasure in me being frustrated with its presence. At the age of 23 and being 6ft3in 200lbs i wasnt gonna let no coyote intimidate me. I would call it reading the room, but when i went to scare this thing off it simply sat down legs stretched paws forward and didnt budge, it almost seemed like it was scoffing me. Daring me to come forward, being coy, but my hair raised really really fast. Ive been around Grizzly bear, moose and a slew of other critters but those three incidents made me wonder about alot of things. When i spoke to a hopi man about my experiences and told him the stories in the best way i knew how, he stated that ive been visited by them. He said i could potentially have a gift of sorts, he called it a "thing" like "you got that thing". He never used a term just simply called it a "thing". And thats what attracts them to me. Im white as an icecream cone so i always thought it odd that something from native American cultures would mess with me. Well thats ignorant, because the color of your skin doesnt dictate whether or not youre visted by a walker.

I would love to see this as a full length movie. The writing is phenomenal. Watching these people try to survive in a post apocalyptic wasteland while a skinwalker’s running around in the forest is terrifying. Normally I wouldn’t think those 2 concepts would mix but this makes me want to theorize about the skinwalkers and their origins. The context clues when they talk about growing food and when he mentions “the blast” I’d like to believe that nuclear war broke out and the skinwalkers are a result of genetic mutation like Fallout or a paranormal anomaly like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. And hearing the screams it makes sends a chill down my spine. I love how you can only make out the word “help” as it’s other screams sound close to english but not quite. It makes it feel more like a creature than a person as does the way it runs on all fours. This short film is truly a masterpiece. Very well done

Not going to lie, this film had built up so much suspense in me that when the grand daughter said “The boy is too skinny” I genuinely thought they were cannibals lol. I also appreciate the subtle details that not many other people seem to be talking about; like references to a “blast”, that the cities are unsafe, and so on. It adds interesting world building while not being explicit, adding to the unease as the audience doesn’t know what’s going on. Can’t wait for this to become a feature length film, because I am dead certain you’re going to get you’re filming. See you in theaters! :)

I hate to break it to you but that lore only applies to wendigos, skin walkers are a completely different ideology and region. I guess that makes sense, The goal is to get the victim closer, so from far away, It sounds close; making the person believe that they are nearby, and that they can easily find the source of screams; then the closer they get, they get more desperate to find the person so they keep running towards the source. Quite Genius of the skin walker if I do say so myself. But I'm assuming this would only work against Naive Kind-Hearted people, Most people nowadays would run "from" the screams.

About 4 years ago I went to visit my parents and younger brother. At the time they lived in one of the only houses that had been built in a new development. I stayed in a guest room downstairs. One night, after i had been staying there for almost one week I woke up around 2 a.m. and could not get back to sleep so I turned on the light on and sat with my back against a wall next to a window that had closed wooden shutters on the inside instead of blinds and began reading a book that I brought with me. Sometime soon after 3:00 a.m. I heard my brother's voice very loudly shout my name right outside the wall behind me. It was as if he was standing one foot away on the outside of the house on the other side of the wall I was sitting against. It sounded just like my brother. But, I knew my brother was upstairs in his room asleep. I had a surge of adrenaline and i completely froze. It was terrifying. I sat there frozen for about 10 minutes and then I heard my brother's voice shout my name again, right from the other side of the wall! This time i jumped and sprinted up the stairs to my brothers room. I opened the door to his room and he was there asleep in his bed. My brother has a disability and a very unique voice. The voice that I heard sounded just like his and it was very clearly and loudly saying my name. This was one of, if not the most scariest experience of my life and the only supernatural type event that I have ever experienced, and I swear to god that it is a true story. I think about that night a lot and I have no explanation for what I heard.

Happened to me a few times in my life when I heard one of my parents faintly calling my name, usually when I was home alone. I live Europe where skinwalkers aren’t present, I guess I was just really tired and started hearing things, or maybe it was the supernatural

I was actually expecting a close up encounter but I'm thoroughly amazed by the suspense closing it all, leaving lots of room for more mystery. The pacing was nuce for the most part however it could be improved upon. But as an introduction to a set universe it's spot on. Revealing the state of humanity in context to the passing time

This needs to be made into an actual franchise, The plot was brilliant, didnt feel rushed at all despite being 20 mins long, which in an of itself is impressive, atmosphere was set perfectly throughout the entire video, The screams in the beginning made me expect more throughout the video which never came until the end when I didnt expect them, reestablishing that plot point and setting those screams in stone perfectly

First of all, this is a masterpiece. I was on edge throughout the whole video. Secondly, one detail I find interesting is when the man mentions that moving north is worth trying because it is further from the blast and away from the city. I think this indicates that there was a nuclear war at some point prior to the events in the short film. The resulting nuclear winter most likely killed their crops, meaning that he and his son needed to scavenge abandoned buildings for food. This is probably why he wanted to move north too, since it is further from the center of the blast in the city; hence, what he meant when he said "further from the blast" (19:39) and "stay far away from the cities" (19:45).

This is really good. It captures the grounded post apocalyptic vibe perfectly. Also, the constantly looming dread of a shapeshifting predator. The thing is, the fear of the skinwalker is a much different vibe. I grew up on the Ute Reservation and our farm is a few miles away from skinwalker ranch. The Skinwalker never tries to fool you into thinking it's human. It usually turns into something absurd. For instance: a species of bird that doesn't exist, or a wolf in the middle of the southwest desert where there are no wolves. If it does imitate a human it adds something obviously inhuman as a mockery. For instance, the face of a dog, or ridiculously long body hair that sticks out in every direction. Although, I have heard of a once common sighting that was a vagrant who looked entirely human except his eyes glowed red like the eye shine of a coyote and ran as fast as a car. The Skinwalker doesn't hunt. It doesn't lure you. It is always watching and it antagonizes you. It's always messing with you. The way to deal with it is ignore it. The strangest things you see, like surgically precise animal bisections, or a creature that looks like a hybrid wolf/bear, you act as rationally as possible. That's why people don't report animal mutilations or paranormal sightings in the area anymore. The Utes refuse to even speak of the thing or recognize it's existence, although it plays a huge part in their current culture. The last thing about a skinwalker is that although sometimes it is described as either a demon or a witch, from what I understand from Utes or Navajos is that it either currently is or used to be human. But I do understand that this is a variation of the creature set in Ireland.

@@crazeguy26 Exactly. The Ute version is the same as the Navajo version. The Navajo used to own all of Eastern Utah, but the Utes betrayed them, pushed them all down to Arizona, and took their lands. When the Navajo left, they cursed the Utes with the Skinwalker, which prior to this didn't exist in the Ute tradition.
