1:09 I once saw this engine at a public model train layout (that's usually American HO scale and N scale), and they had this exact engine running with some British Pullmans! The p2 has some nice sounds!

Ooh very nice!! It's great that one of those made it all the way over there - they are great! Yes the P2 does have a nice selection of sounds! All the best, Sam :)

On one of my early model-shows, on my 1st table (it was a big one 3.5m X 1,5m) we decided to run trains with DCC sound, including a loud sheep-wagon. On the 3th day we couldn't stand them anymore, especially the sheep-wagon, so we went on DC on the rest of the week.

4Fs got the moniker of "Duck Sixes" from their wheel arrangement, 0-6-0, and the fact they had a tendency to waddle from side to side when starting and at higher speeds. They were also known as "Big Goods", and in a derogatory fashion as "Clackers", the last coming from their valve gear, which made a distinctive "clack-clack, clack-clack" noise, which only got worse as the engine grew slack and loose as it was run down between overhauls.
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Ahh that's interesting - thanks a lot for the info on the Duck Sixes! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Your King trumps all the other engines!!!! I absolutely love that engine, I mean WOW!!!!! A second favorite would be the Fowler 4F 0-6-0, and then the Crosti Boiler 9F, which I think is a VERY unique locomotive. :)

Hi Sam. My favourite locos are mainly the less glamorous types.eg Standard class 9f, LMS Black 5 and small shunters. The "Duke of Gloster" has "British Caprotti" valve gear, which is a gear driven, rotary valve gear. As a personally prefer the correct designation of "Blood & Custard" which is "Carmine & Cream". Well, each to his own. Regards, Alan.

A superb running session indeed! Certainly noise ;) What I like to hear. Like you say, Hornby really have done a superb job in creating this system for an affordable price. Must say it's got me even thinking about DCC. Never knew that about 'Gadwall' being destroyed in WW2. Just got to love the Crosti ;) Can really see why the Hornby Castle gain such high marks during your review. Superb work indeed, keep up the great work

Nice one Sam - but for me one of the best things about running digital is the ability to set realistic and therefore very slow acceleration and deceleration rates, and not have trains suddenly changing speed, which makes them look like toys. With TTS sound this also enables you to just turn the controller to zero, and then use various sounds during the time it takes for the loco to come to a halt - blowing off a bit of steam, and especially the brake squeal just before it stops, is fantastic. And finally, on the whistles it's lovely to use the guard's whistle before starting, then a short whistle as it starts, then a bit off wheel slip, and save the long whistle until it gets up to speed - again, slow acceleration makes that possible - and it makes a great show!
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
Yes that's understandable, though the acceleration and deceleration times can be adjusted if that's what you want to do! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)

I believe there is a cv for volume on most decoders. Also I have found that decoders are not programmed for instant response. I.e., braking and engine the engine need time for default momentum to work. I bought a Mallard DC and added a Digitrax 126 decoder. It stopped on frogs. The solution was to add brass wire pickups to the rear most tender wheels. Soundtraxx Ecomami has UK diesel and steam decoders for about $67. They are tops.

I have an idea why don't you make a video about bachmann vs hornby to see who has the greatest speed, detail, and how strong the locomotives are.
