Venus fly traps will clamp down on anything that touches the bristles, even a rock. That thing probably had a few stones or fallen branches in its gullet, anything that moves close to/falls into it

She said on the first 4 sided dive that Laudna is partly a way to lean into her weirdness so she can do wacky stuff at the table and have it entirely in character lol I really enjoyed Beau's development, I think she was a great character that grew a lot, but Laudna definitely seems to be a huge amount of fun to play

@@kings_mark I've never been a fan of Rule of Cool the way people use it. If you want to do something cool, then lower the DC so it can more likely happen or lessen the consequences (that flying leap out the window is only a d4 instead of the d8 damage it should be) but rule of cool shouldn't let you break the system. The restriction on twin spell is in place to prevent "free" double casting and insta killing one target.

"Ultimately, despite the fact that this is a game system created by someone else, the game's viability rests principally with the referee." "This game is unlike chess in that the rules are not cut and dried. In many places they are guidelines and suggested methods only. This is part of the attraction of ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, and it is integral to the game. " These are fragments taken from the 8th page of the AD&D Handbook. You can, obviously, play strictly by the rules. I'm not going to tell you what to do in your games. But the most important thing is to always have fun. And if the moment dictates to bend the rules a little, you should always do that. The most memorable moments I played occured when I did this

I actually appreciated that Matt just explained he needed time to prep for the next game. He seemed so stressed so often in Campaign 2. Glad to see him giving himself a break and just explaining that he needs time. He's not trying to be Superman anymore, I think.

Yeah, the last-week-of-the-month break (for the main campaign, at least) was a really good call. I wonder if the exceptionally high quality of NPCs we're seeing (not that they weren't always good, but... the frequency of OMG I LOVE THIS PERSON is so high, you know?) also has to do with him getting more time to prep. In any case, I'd support whatever Matt or the others need to do to ensure they keep having fun and wanting to keep doing this.

Most material components in 5e are indicative of it being a "sympathetic magic" system from our perspective: most Illusion spells use wool bc you're "pulling the wool over their eyes", fireball needs bat guano and sulfur which have the chemical bases of gunpowder, etc

A good amount of spell components are jokes. Fireball needs guano and phosphorous, two ingredients to make gunpowder; comprehend languages needs a ziggurat, a reference to the tower of Babel; silent image is a piece of fleece, a pun on "pull the wool over their eyes;" in older editions lightning bolt needed a glass rod and cloth, to create static electricity. One of my favorites is color spray, which in older editions was a handful of colored sand that you'd just throw at people.

Liam's actions during combat are the shortest (pun not intended) and still some of the most significant. Not only due to his character being a tanky archetype, but 'cause he seems to know exactly what he's gonna do at the very top of his turn. I personally love this type of experienced RPG player: this is fun but it's not just for me.

I think it was in the first 4 sided dive where Robbie mentioned that in his first test games with CR, Liam really surprised him with how great he is at describing his combat actions in character and inspired him to really get into it. Honestly the whole cast would be awesome players to have at your table, but man if you get someone as in-character as Liam it really opens up the whole party to have fun with it

@@hak1111111 THAT'S why his characters sometimes come off so... fake! I understand now. He was so suited to Percy, but since then, I've had trouble believing his characters sometimes, and I couldn't put my finger on why. He's built characters that, in many ways, go against his IRL character, and therefore can sometimes come off as not genuine. Thank you for clarifying that.

I loved this episode. For what is essentially an avoidable random encounter that the party _successfully_ saved against multiple times, it became even more of a challenge than a written big boss lady slug, and gave us so many iconic moments.

@@coledibiase5971 Matt will never kill one of his players in a non-story-related encounter, unless in the particular case of rolls not being in their favour. 1v7 Encounters are heavily in favour typically of the party. Matt, however, super buffs his enemies HP like a bad Difficulty Increase. Especially in these instances. They will never deal with a proper character death as was customary in earlier editions.

Tiberius himself continued on and died much later in the game, as an NPC. OP was actually referencing Mollymauk's death in ep 26 of C2.

I really don't. Giving a mechanical advantage as part of the roleplay is good for the story/gameplay integration, but in this case, it grants Sam as a player a leverage on the rest of the party that none of them have. The others party members will now be directly penalized for not extending their bond with FCG. I'm not saying Sam will abuse of this power, I'm sure he won't, but as a class mechanic, I find it extremely poorly thought out.

@@bdletoast09 ...If everyone in the party doesn't become "trusted companions," and there is enough of a gap between different members gaining that status for it to actually matter, there is a more significant issue with the party than certain members getting a d6 inspiration a few more times than others. You could do the same exact thing as a cleric or bard(or any support) with inspiration, healing or buffs; withhold unless you are close to a character, or they are nice to you. It really is not game-breaking.

It’s a really good movie and a big departure from the comedies that Adam Sandler is usually in. If you like high intensity dramas that make you feel like you’re having a 2 hour and 15 minute panic attack I would recommend it.

Sam, being the person who had never played and has always gone for the "worst" character builds, is truly the best player when it comes to understanding that he is the character. At 31:00you see him be honest about not seeing Taliesin so not binding to him, he could have meta gamed and been all "OH I don't see Ashton so he MUST be in peril so I bind with him." I believe it was campaign 2, episode 96, when Jester is talking to the Hag and marisha was about to bust in to "save her" Sam said to let it play out, he is actively keeping the others from meta gaming. I'd personally say he has truly learned what it meant to play dnd. Love that man.

I really want a new Critical Role Lofi drop, but have it be “Smooth Beats for Science Bros.” Have it be Percy and Tarry hanging out in the lab together working on some projects. The music could be classical music, but with a nice lofi beat and vibe. @bleep bloop first thing that comes to mind was the fantasy movie Dragonheart, where they pretend to kill the dragon and drop him in a lake, take the money and then a few days later the dragon escapes and they go to the next town and do it again. Not exactly the same, but the idea of selling the same thing/service as a con is pretty common. Mask of Zorro, Antonio Banderas' character had a con where he would be "caught" by a bounty hunter and turned in for the reward, then escape and do it again next town over.

@@bleepbloop1898 if you're interested in hearing about tropes, check out Overly Sarcastic production's trope talk. They don't have either sell the robot one, but they may different ones. (Their channel focuses much on retelling history&myths in a digestible and funny way but they talk tropes too)
