The short version: Long before Jim Steinman ever wrote lyrics for a song with the same title for an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical called "Whistle Down the Wind," he wrote his own song with lyrical elements and title in common. The Everly Brothers recorded one variation; this is the other one. It's sung by Gina Taylor, probably recorded during the Pandora's Box sessions, and if I had to wager a guess based purely on lyrical content, I'd say it was intended at one point for the slot that "Safe Sex" occupies on the final album.
How did I get this demo? One night, a mass email went out from Jim to several people in his address book with this attached and no message in the email itself. (Snafus like that occur every so often; ask literally anyone who's corresponded with him.) I was one of the people on that chain. Basically, a bunch of people have had this file for ages; nobody who I conferred with knew whether they were supposed to share it or not, but figured they wouldn't just in case. As I was certainly under no obligation to keep it secret (it was never stated or even implied), and it's been up on KZfaq at least once already, I figured what the hell. So, here it is.
