In the 1970s I had a Gerber flat grind with a metal handle in Alaska. I skinned and processed moose, caribou, bear, and smaller game. For wood processing I used a bowie or a hatchet. The Gerber was a good knife and never let me down. Thanks Aaron for the fun video.

Bought one and I'm very impressed with it! One thing I figured out is that it fits the Ontario Jet Pilot Survival knife sheath. It fits perfect and you can use the button snap. You can even carry a diamond sharpener in the sheath pocket!

Thx mate. Mine just came in. I pulled the trigger after watching you guys' gauntlet. Now I can't wait to put it to the test. The quality of the blade is crystal clear just by holding it. Cheers!

It’s actually one of my favorite knives now. I’ve had a lot of fun with both of mine, I’ve made countless feathersticks and fires, and I’ve used it for everything you can use a knife for, and as long as you don’t hit the edge on concrete or something like that, mine has stayed pretty sharp even after batoning through a bunch of knotty pieces of swamp birch. Even if the blade edge microscopically rolls over a bit, getting an old leather belt and stropping it will make it razor sharp again by moving and removing steel.

Purchaced this knife several months ago, being ex military, this is built like a combat knife for sure. Like you, i beat the living crap out of this thing and cannot believe how it held up. people that have issues with the 420 HC would change there minds if they actually put this knife through its paces. The strongarm is straight forward, no bells and whistles, tough as nails knife, PERIOD.

Thank you, Aaron! Great, great review! I've wanted this particular knife for a long time but did NOT want to have a black and orange tool with emblazened BG on it or my sheath! I am so glad that Gerber listened to you and other worthy reviewers. Anyway, I finally pulled the trigger and will have mine in two days. I love my "Chef 9" but I have a very strong feeling that the Strongarm will be my new favorite.

Watched your great review and the gauntlet reviews and I must say that everyone did a great job of exploring the pros and cons of this knife. I just got mine in the mail today and took it out in the back yard to make some kindling with some rock hard mesquite that I use when I BBQ. It passed my quick unscientific test with flying colors! Hard to beat this knife at this price point! Thanks Gerber!

I had a sk5 cold steel knife the tip broke off of it stabbing wood. At first I thought maybe it was a factory defect but I have seen and heard of others who had the same problem with the sk5 knife. We used my Gerber strongarm and it went through a bullet proof vest alot easier than the I was expecting .I wasn't a big fan of Gerber knives or the 420 HTC steel but I have changed my mind on the Gerber strongarm it's one very good knife. I have used it to make a Dakota fire pit it performed great before and after. I did have to sharpen it after digging the pit because of the rocks and roots it dug up but didn't take much to bring the edge back to shaving sharp.

I’ve had the serrated one for a few years now and it’s still one of my favourite blades - this one is my everyday carry, along with my smith and Wesson karambit. I want to get the plain edge one because yeah, the serration gets in the way of some tasks.

This is how a knife should look like when it gets reviewed. Either short hard use, or long term usage(seen someone never reviewed a knife that's under a year old). Fantastic indeed. I might consider getting one. My brother has an older version with some stuff but I've always been critic since it's basically tv advertised through Bear Grylls, lol. But you made me sold on this one :) Thanks for sharing!

Ordered a maro carbon steel today but I kind of want this one too. Mostly like you, a little camping and craft, more hiking.at night, weird places, but out etc. only have folding knives of any quality at this point accept really nice kitchen knives. Fully agree if it had a better steel I’d have purchased a while ago and not go back and forth on this knife.

Is 420HC like completely stainless? Can I not worry about salt water at all? Also, a really important question I have is, is the handle completely sealed? Meaning, can water get inside the handle and make contact with the tang? And has anyone ever experienced a loose handle? Or anything loose on this knife?

What is a plain edge and drop point and why do they matter to you? And, I've seen videos where you have a knife positioned upside down on your hiking backpack, on your chest. Is this that knife or do you rotate those knives? What is a good knife for that. I like the accessibility of having a knife readily available.

Great review of this knife! This review shows the Strongarm’s capabilities very well not like others who reviewed it. Knife looked like it cut like butter here when properly handled, not like in Prepared Mind 101’s video where he struggled to handle it and to be honest not sure he knew what he was doing during the slicing test. Thanks for another great review!! Stay safe!!

I think I found another mounting option. If you remove all bits from the sheath and slip the it inside the waistband of your trousers with the smooth side towards you. The molle "gaps" in the back grip the sheath to your waistband and giving you a nice concealed carry.

I'm feeding back sooner than I thought. I have now got the knife and I already love it. Thank you for all the reviews. Admittedly, I have not seen all of the reviews in series. However, based on those I have seen, you may have missed something. Gerber have included a clever innovative sheath. Sheaths I find are often given minimal attention by most manufacturers. So, 10/10 to Gerber :-) However this system is made up of five standalone components. The concern becomes one of somehow loosing a component thus compromising the system to some degree.

I have one as well and it's been my favorite lately. It's light but still heavy duty enough to get any camp jobs done and with that price i don't mind abusing or neglecting it a little. For instance I have a Benchmade Burshcrafter that I have never taken out with me because I don't want to mess it up. The Strongarm? It's asking to get beat up! Your knife definitely shows that.

Been following this knife through the gauntlet. Been looking for a knife around that 5 inch mark for a good edc and to pair with my CRKT hawk when I go out in the woods for the day. Im glad Gerber finally made something thats appeals to more than just military and better than their BG line. They should have made the original BG knife similar in design and in the USA of the 420HC. Also if they removed the BG logo on the grips and offered the fine edge the first time, they would of had a winner.

Really like mine, its not a super steel, but they seem to have the blade design and heat treat right, cause it is tough. The Strongarm is just the right size knife, my Ontario RB7 looks like i'm carrying a sword, great knife but to big and crappy sheath.

Have used Gerber knives off and on for about 30 years, some were great, some were crap, but THIS is, imho, the best knife they have made, the value is beyond compare, and I do not know of any knife int he price range that is as strong and dependable. late to the party and been eyeing this blade for a year... finally pulled the trigger on one and keep wondering why I was on the fence about it!? I'd take this thing into combat without hesitation...great soldier knife...I like it better than the cold steel SRK knife ...I agree with the video...while the 420hc is impressive...I'd rather seen this blade a S30V or mabey D2 steel...even AUS8 would be cool...If I could change one thing it would be 1" longer blade...but what it comes with will work...this knife is a baby Sherman tank...love the gauntlet reviews...it really gives you a personal perspective from other guys who use the tool in different scenarios and helps with your decision to purchase or not... these guy put in many hours of their time to review these blades and I appreciate their time and effort...plus it's better entertainment than tv in my opinion..peace out and as brother tactical says...." till the next time we meet!"

Great review. Good production value on your vids. Also you sound like you know what you're talking about as opposed to that level of uncertainty you see in some reviewers. So props on your work. As per the comment below, you kind sold me on this knife in that it is utilitarian, and therefore will cover you in many tasks sufficiently as opposed to being the best at any one. I have one question about this I was hoping you might be able to give me your $.02 on. I love the look of the knife with the exception of the coating on the blade in that it will wear off in time. And I'd rather have the clean look of say the Druid Series but on this Strongarm. Because you can't remove the handle like I've seen on the BK series and use a stripper, could you still attempt the process getting as close to the handle as possible and perhaps using some steel will (see what I did there-I'm here all week) to get what's left closest to the handle? Or because it's a different type of coating than what's on the BK's would the stripper approach still apply? My knife knowledge is relatively basic/elementary but watching all these vids, I'm picking up stuff rather quickly. Any thoughts would be appreciated when you get a chance about the blade coating treatment! Thanks!

Looks awesome, Looking for a large knife to go with my Tops BOB to be molle attached to my pack strap. Looking at BK-2 or Strongarm. What would you recommend. Looking to spend under a $100.00?

I would recommend the Ontario gen2 SP51, he does an awesome review of it on his channel. It makes a perfect companion blade for around 70$, 5160hc spring steel with a saber grind that batons through wood like a beast.

I'd like to see you review the Puma XP survival knife. It popped up on my Amazon recommendations. I looked it up on KZfaq and there's only like 3 vids on it and they are in German. It's like a $50 knife. I have the Gerber and I'm probably going to buy the Puma XP when the orange handle version becomes available in America. The Puma guy told me end of September.

Hey Dean O. Do you think you can "convince" Aaron to try out the KME sharpening system. I brought mine after seeing your videos on KZfaq and totally love it
