Jimmy (Tom Hanks from Big, Forrest Gump and Philadelphia) yells at Evelyn (Bitty Schram) because of how she plays on the field, and she cries, but he replies by saying "There's no crying in baseball!". He is criticized by his manager about his behaviour and Jimmy insults him, which is why he is asked to get out of the field. With a Life magazine photographer in the stands, Lowenstein (David Strathairn from Good Night, and Good Luck) begs the players to do something spectacular.

What’s the A League of their Own movie about?
During World War II when all the men are fighting the war, most of the jobs that were left vacant because of their absence were filled in by women. The owners of the baseball teams, not wanting baseball to be dormant indefinitely, decide to form teams with women. So scouts are sent all over the country to find women players. One of the scouts, passes through Oregon and finds a woman named Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis from Thelma & Louise and Stuart Little), who is incredible. He approaches her and asks her to try out but she's not interested. However, her sister, Kit (Lori Petty) who wants to get out of Oregon, offers to go. But he agrees only if she can get her sister to go. When they try out, they're chosen and are on the same team. Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks from Big, Forrest Gump and Philadelphia), a former player, who's now a drunk, is the team manager. But he doesn't feel as if it's a real job so he drinks and is not exactly doing his job. So Dottie steps up. After a few months when it appears the girls are not garnering any attention, the league is facing closure till Dottie does something that grabs attention. And it isn't long Dottie is the star of the team and Kit feels like she's living in her shadow.

Mr Lowenstein was actually very good man. He did his best & did it all for women's baseball. Kept it going & cut the ribbon at the end for the hall of fame. Cos the ladies knew he was the one that made it all happened.

Nice to think about a time when Rosie O'Donnell was actually cool. Nowadays, the only other celebrity that has burned through more good will that hasn't been convicted of a crime is Ellen DeGeneres. And no, them both being lesbians have nothing to do with it.

@@nascarfanatic2425 Yeah I use to like Ellen as well until recently. I thought her stand ups and talk show was fun and hilarious. I use to watch her show daily like I did Rosie when she had her day time show in the 90's. But they both have gone far off it's not even funny. The only talk show people that had respect ever was Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. The rest are just terrible.

Only Tom Hanks could deliver this scene so well due to him being a comedian and a great actor. I'm sure Tom Hanks knew this was going to be classic and had to do it justice. Being a tough, streetwise, no nonsense blue collar Jimmy Dugan, having reached the end of his rope with women (cream puffs) having no business playing a man's game.

@Ornithocheirus I think what the umpire was trying to say to him was to lighten up on the girls. I thought he was being too hard on her when he yelled at her, but that was because he got mad at her because they lost the 2-run lead on account of her.

LOl & Whipping tears of Sentimental memories Away as well. This is because My Parents were from The Greatest Generation's Era of Adult's. My pop's Started me playing Baseball at Five years of Age in 1963 & I played till I was 40. Everything I was taught, told, or conceived to Do was from our Parents and Grand Parents Views. This Film was a Great Brilliant project that just Fell Right in at a Time when We needed to Review Our legacies. Also when it Came Out? Although My Parents had known of the League, those Many Year's Before. Until the Film was Mentioned & Released. We Never would've had a CLUE about it. Sadly Thing's Move On. And unless We are Reminded Periodically then We Forget. Thank You for The Reminder 🎗️😙🎗️😙.

Well, I've never watched the full movie. And I know that a lot of people will get on me for this, but I have to say I can't be too mad at Jimmy, the coach. The whole point of the team is that it's a step towards women being treated equally as men and being taken just as seriously in sports. If a male player started crying, then chances are they would not be coddled or spoken to in a softer tone, even if they were to start crying. Of course, people can argue that women are softer and more sensitive than men, but sometimes people just need to toughen up and learn to take hard criticisms. Though, it would be completely fair if men were treated more gently if they got emotional, as well. Not trying to open up a long debate or anything, but it's just an opinion. So, there is a part of me that actually respects Jimmy for treating her as he would a man.

@@REB4444 True I was actually with Hanks on this one. She made the mistake and someone needs to tell her that. That was Dottie's fault for not telling her she made a mistake and Jimmy had to do it. I assume that Dottie was the leader of the team.

If you ever played ball at any sort of a competitive level then you know that the older guys get on you when you make a really stupid mistake. If they don't then coach will, and it's worse if it's coming from coach because he's older, and he's meaner.
