Marla (Megan Cavanagh) shows off her baseball skills for Mr. Capadino (Jon Lovitz).
#ALeagueOfTheirOwn #hdclips #moviescenes
Watch League Of Their Own (1992) Now: AAN.SonyPictures.com/LeagueOfT...
Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna star in this major-league comedy from the team that brought you Big. Hanks stars as Jimmy Dugan, a washed-up ballplayer whose big league days are over. Hired to coach in the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943, while the male pros are at war, Dugan finds himself drawn back into the game by the heart and heroics of his all-girl team. Jon Lovitz adds a scene-stealing cameo as the sarcastic scout who recruits Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis), the baseball dolly with a Babe Ruth swing. Teammates Madonna, Lori Petty and Rosie O'Donnell round out the roster, taking the team to the World Series. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail, on the fields and off, for generations of athletes.

As a dad myself, with (good) adult children, what you’re doing is one of the keys to being a good dad - contemplate what you would do in situations before they happen and decide the best way to handle it. With the right decision made before such a situation, you’ll do the right thing reflexively. As a side note I worked around that guy playing her dad (Eddie Jones) for years back when I was in college. I avoided him for awhile because he was large and I was a little intimidated, but at some point we had a few conversations and he was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He played a great bad guy, but in real life he was a lot like that character he played in that clip. Very humble, very sweet.

Good actors make themselves resemble the role even when they do not actually look like the intended character. The presence, or lack thereof as required, the demeanor, all that goes into capturing a character, is what creates that character and makes the character believable. I grew up knowing a little girl named Marla who was painfully shy and brutally bullied, the 70s being such a rocking time to be a kid. She was as also very pretty, although you'd never think it from the way she held herself. I like to imagine that she grew into her beauty, but it's a small town, they're far nastier in so many ways than cities, largely because there is no anonymity, and I feel I was lucky to get out when I did, in hindsight, so I'll never know.

that was pretty much how it went back in the day before society realized that this kind of chauvinistic thinking was wrong, unfair, rude and hurtful. A guy could have a pot belly, crooked teeth and bald and he'd stand there and judge women's appearance and criticize. Still around, but mostly seen as backward. Loved Marla's story. BTW: not fair of women to judge a man by his profession either.
@cinema_chic

That's how society has always been, even now. Look at the casting. Seth Rogan looking guys can get the Katherine Heigl's because they're redeemed by having some kind of personality, but a woman is only as good as what a man finds desirable. That's why when Rebel Wilson, who is pretty but heavy, was criticized for being "too fat" to get a guy like Chris Hemsworth in the RomCom they did togethe. So, according to society, men can be as critical as they want of women, doesn't matter their appearance.

The fact that he was willing to pass her up when she was easily one of the best members on the team just speaks to the fact that men like him will never see the value in a woman unless she's pretty. Regardless how good she is. What a slimeball.

If you ever played baseball on a team . . didn't matter what level . . . the secret no one tells you is that . . . it's all about the friendship and comradery . . Just like a fan really goes to a game to drink and be with friends, and just by chance there's also a baseball game going on . . .that's the same feeling in the dugout.
