Watching this back in 2020, it really was a proto-Switch. Everything's much more streamlined and shiny in the switch but it's a very similar basic idea. Makes me really intrigued to see what they'll replace the switch with in a few years.

All of the buttons on the Gamepad work fine for me... And my 14 year old nephew.

I like my Wii U. For your usual Mario games, it's great and its Call of Duty community is fairly lively. It's not ground-breaking, but it's a decent console. All it needs is more games. One thing I will say though is that the pro controller is absolutely fantastic. I've used the wiimote, the Wii U gamepad, the Playstation 3 controller and the Xbox 360 controller, but the pro controller is by far the most comfortable. If Nintendo did anything right with this console, it was the pro controller.

My advice with youtube... Don't use the app. Open the browser and use youtube on there. You get proper fullscreen and it is much faster.

The most redeeming feature of the Wii U for me was being able to draw with it. Granted, the drawing limitations are..well...limited. But easy to get around if you're a creative person.

Wii U is actually better than it was back in 2012, whole lot of nice games to buy on virtual console, and a whole lot more games to play. It's pretty fast now too. Though, internet is a pain in the ass to get around christmas. When I first got mine in 2013, I didn't know that and I just permanently put it down until mk8 came around and I actually got the internet to work on it. But yeah, framerate is better, loading is faster, etc. Review is a bit dated now. The only thing that I think is a bit sucky about it is my connection with my gamepad to the wii u, disconnects itself from the wii u, but I guess it's cause I sit a bit far from my wii u.

I think ashen would be good at let's plays.

(actually) Fun fact: The "sensor bar" on the Wii and Wii U is not a sensor at all, it just has ir LEDs in it, and the controller has a tiny ir camera in it which does the sensing. Why is this fun, you ask?? Cuz it means that anything that can emit infrared light can be used as a sensor bar. Got a candle handy??! Boom! Stone age wireless sensor bar!!! 🤯🤯

Dang, did the Wii U really used to be this slow? I got mine in 2012 as well, but I don't ever remember waiting this long... On a side note, things load a LOT faster now.

I have my wii u and I really like it , also one of the reasons I got it was to be able to play both the 1st party stuff but also the old 3rd party games , like batman city , that I hadn't played because I didn't have an Xbox or ps3, and I totally enjoyed arkham city on the wii u. I like the game pad and i liked being able to see where the remote control batarangs were going on the closer screen

People say the Wii U is bad. I say, the Xbox One and PS4 games are going to being released on PC through Steam anyway. The Wii U has actual exclusives that will probably never go on another console. Games on the Xbox One that are worth playing: ...? Not really any, since they are either ports from Xbox 360 or PS3, or just another damn CoD sequel that 12 year olds are raving about. Not only that, but the Xbox One and PS4 have no backwards compatibility! Meaning, you can't use your old games that you had before. The Wii U has backwards compatibility with older Wii games, and the homebrew developers are working on a GameCube disc loader in the Wii U's Wii mode. All of the games on the Xbox One and PS4 are basically third-party developed games, with no strong launch titles. Sure, Assassin's Creed Unity is good, but it's on Steam, possibly getting a Steam Winter Sale treatment of a cheaper price. Also, if you want another damn CoD sequel, it's also on Steam. Most (if not all) of the non-first party games on Xbox One or PS4 are already on PC. CoD: Advanced Warfare? PC. Assassin's Creed Unity? PC. The games that are worth playing are on PC through Steam. The Wii U has actual exclusives that aren't complete shit.

I got a Wii U a few days ago as a birthday present. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. I'm not a console gamer and stick to PC but I have always loved Mario, DK and Zelda so in turn I usually get whatever Nintendo has released. The loading times isn't as long as Ashens makes out or at least it isn't slow to me. The games are nice, I asked for a Wii U mainly because of Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, EarthBound (virtual console) and Zelda: Wind Waker. I feel like the Wii U is a very underrated console, I love it and have spent 2 days non-stop playing games since I've bought it. It was definitely worth the cost and recommend buying it.

The WiiU is worth the buy for Nintendo Land, Mario Kart 8 (possibly one of the best MK games), Super Smash Bros U, Mario Bros U, and Mario 3D World. Some people are loving Bayonetta 2 as well, but it's not my thing. I've spent more time on the new Mario Kart than I care to admit. Whilst my hands are far too big to comfortably use the Game Pad, my wife likes it and I stick with the old Wii Remote.
