This is a look at and review of a telescope made by the SarBlue company. It is a 60mm Maksutov Cassegrain telescope. This means it has an excellent high quality optical system. And it makes it a tremendous value. Watch the video to learn more about it.
I also did a side by side comparison with this telescope and two other telescopes of similar size and it clearly outperformed them in every aspect including crispness, sharpness, and color accuracy. It’s a great telescope and it gets my recommendation.
It comes with everything you need to get going including a table-top tripod, a 20mm eyepiece, an adapter for your smart phone, an erect image diagonal, and an informational booklet.
Thinking about getting this telescope? But want to learn more? I have a great breakdown with more information and more pictures on my website here:
www.stormthecastle.com/telesco...
More information:
You can learn more about this telescope and purchase it on amazon here (Affiliate link) amzn.to/2XGX5Ar
Sarblue now has a newer version of this telescope which includes a finderscope:
amzn.to/3xN2VCZ
You can find the Sar Blue company on facebook here: @SarBlueOptics.
The eyepiece that comes with the telescope is a 20mm size. This gives you 37 power magnification. If you would like more power and higher magnification I recommend this eyepiece on Amazon. It is 10mm and it will give you 75 power.

I like the fact its so compact. You had sent me your telescope book and I think I am interested in this one for a beginner. I like to hike to peaks so, this would work well for carrying purposes.

Good evening sir! Thank you for your great review! This is really a very high quality Maksutov 60 mm. And although the aperture is of course too small, it is quite enough to see the sun, the moon and the rings of Saturn! I also ordered it to add the Mac 60 to my telescope collection! Good luck to you!

This will be my first telescope. I live in south america and other telescopes here are expensive, shipping gets very expensive the heavier and larger the object is and good telescopes are large and heavy, but this is perfect for a first time and i can throw it in a bag when i get out of the city and watch the sky. I hope the quality is good.

The quality is excellent! Enjoy it. The portability of it is a big plus. And.... be sure to check my description of this video. The company has given us a 10% discount on amazon!

If you do that, I’d suggest that you think about a proper tripod versus the tiny tabletop one. Less easy to carry but it would probably be nicer to use.

just looking at it i can see that mount will not be enough if you put barlow + phone . it needs a stirdier mount otherwise shaking will be a problem

Good evening! I just came across your review and am so glad I got it! However, I am not able to see anything. I can look through the eyepiece alone and see shapes, I can see shapes when I remove the eyepiece and look through the telescope, but when I put everything together, I only see black. I have never owned a telescope before and hope its just something easy (like most of my problems). Can you think of what may be causing this off the top of your head? Again, thank you so much for this video! It seems like I picked a winner here if I can just make it work.

@SUSIE081993: It will be ok for the moon (and maybe Jupiter & Saturn) but most of the other planets are too small to see clearly with such a small aperture. You need at least 75mm (approx 3 inches) of aperture to be of much use.

Would this scope go along well with a 10 inch dobsonion?

Tanks for asking! I put it all together, cleaned it, calibrated it and used it a few times. It definitely underperforms. For the size and weight it is unwieldy. I will probably use the optical train to build a new telescope around it.

Just tried mine tonight. Not happy with it. Trying to put an eyepiece in the diagonal is very difficult. You have to really work hard to do it. So it you are on a target and decide to switch eyepieces, well you are out of luck because trying to wrestle the eyepiece out of the socket will move the telescope. Yes, I did make sure the retaining screws were fully backed out. So I thought ok, crappy diagonal, I'll put another one in. Well the hole in the bottom of the MAK is much smaller than 1.25" so a regular diagonal wont work. I can understand that since the mirror is so small maybe they were trying to maximize the surface area by making the hole smaller. Now I'm stuck with this pain in the ass diagonal and will have to make it work. I'll have to try and sand down the inside diameter just enough so eyepieces will slip into place and not forced.

Whats the difference between Schmidt Cassegrain and Maksutov Cassegrain???
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 3 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. If you look at the light path of these two telescopes they appear identical.. But, the corrector lens and secondary mirrors are different. In the Maksutov cassegrain these two components are differently shaped and much easier/inexpensive to manufacture. But give results that are just as good as the Schmidt.
