It was a great honor for me to make almost 40 videos with . Ralph Robertson that I filmed over a two year period. Since his passing in December they have been a surge in his video views here on KZfaq. The series was first posted a few years back on Facebook but at that time the KZfaq Channel only had about 2k subscribers. Now that I’m at over 100k subs “The Greasy Hollow Memories” videos have found a whole new audience.. Come along with me to Greasy Hollow, Tennessee and meet a real Appalachian storyteller that became a living legend. I skipped over these Greasy Hollow videos many times, before I decided to watch Ralph talk about working and growing up; after that I kept on watching. Raph had some good genes. Also, I heard someone complain about the theme music on another video comment, but I think it (the music) captures the Irish or Scottish influence once prevalent in Appalachia.

What a great video John. Ralph was much richer than any millionaire getting to live in Greasy Hollow his entire life. I could listen to the birds singing in the background,You two sitting in the porch swing all day long. Nothing more a peaceful sound than birds singing. Where I grew up in small town,,the local mom & pop lumber yard had one of those old school Coke machines,,, the bottles sit in a pool of water to keep cool. When you put your nickle in,and pulled bottle through the channels, felt like you were going to bust the bottle to get the bottle pulled out of machine. RIP Ralph.

Your videos of Mr Ralph, are what got me watching…. I love the ole school folks , and their stories, so it popped up in my feed, …. Of course I’ve watched many of your other videos, the ole country stores and such, they are all great, but everyone can relate to Mr Ralph and his time frame, because of our grandparents or great grandparents,… sadly most of that generation are gone on to the Promised Land now… God bless em all!! … for those of that generation that are still going strong, do like my grandpa’s use to tell me , “you gotta keep movin”

New to this channel, and enjoyed getting to know Mr.Ralph. What a sweet soul he was, and even at the advanced age of 97, he still had so much personality and a good sense of humor. Very sad to read that he passed away the day after Christmas. Through the magic of technology he is forever with us, and able to share his wisdom and memories for years to come. What a treasure!

Thanks for watching!..It was a great honor for me to make almost 40 videos with . When I was a younger man I’m only 36 now but when I was in 8th grade, I had grown up in Cincinnati Ohio, of my 3 sisters and one brother who loved sports, and all things city life I was alone but never bored, crawling around the creeks that lead to the Ohio river and learning to fish from the old men who smoked and drank while fishing. I was the black sheep for sure and didn’t fit in, I loved building forts, digging for bugs and catching snakes. Even snuck a pellet rifle I wasn’t suppose to have in a garbage bag in the woods up from my house and i used to go hunting haha. 9th grade year I begged my mother and step dad to let me stay with my aunt and uncle in hyden Kentucky way down in the hollers and went to Leslie county high school. It was a total culture shock but surrounded by simpler people who lived much differently from how I was used to. Getting a taste of Appalachia I always find my way back there and will again soon. Something about it, I may have been born to city folk but I have Appalachian blood running through my veins from my family who largely lived there until recently. I love it and the feelings of it being there.
