I remember as a kid back in the late 90's when my father gave me this wonderful game. The WW2 scenario is still one of the best scenarios ever made.

Whilst I really enjoyed the original Civilzation game, this is the one that truly got its hooks into me with its "Just. One. More. Turn" formula. Lost coumt of the number of all-nighters I ended up pulling whilst playing CivII. It was the graphics and combat improvements that really sold me on this iteration.

"GIVE ME MORE SOLDIERS NOBLE LEADER!" I love the Civ2 high council video advisors.. I recently replaced them (frame by frame) for my Civ2 Heroes of Might & Magic 2 mod (video on my channel) and am possibly the first to ever mod them.

This was my very first Civilization game on PS1 (now learning that the PS1 version was all of Civilization II's expansions minus Test of Time). I loved this game as a kid. Now I still have my copy of Civilization II Test of Time along with its game manuals and in good condition too. Lots of memories from playing this game. It took me until my teen years in the 2000s before I moved on to Civilization III full on (took me a little time to get Civ III) and I only got the base game of Civ III unfortunately and never got to enjoy the expansions that came with it.

One important thing that this leaves out- in 1998, Multiplayer Gold Edition was released! I spent many hours playing the multiplayer with my family.

Despite sinking thousands of hours into Civ IV still daily (forever), Civ2 is "foundation" of love as it was first "real" video game I played a lot at school (didn't had computer at home until Civ3 time). Specially WW2 scenario - oh boy, I do remember "grinding" one save for months (well, I "traded" good grades and some help to teachers with writing and stuff for extra hour or two in afternoon to play it) until late 1980s

My very first videogame ever! I was 6 or 7 when I started to sit next to my father to spy his games and suggest him what to do. Then I started to mess up with his matches when he wasn't home and even running at the computer every time he was on the phone. I bothered him so much that in the end he bought me a Playstation! But I still remember everything about that game: the soundtrack, the throne room, the councilors fighting with each other..

Civ 2: Test of Time was my first Civ game. Every Civ release I hope for a good Sci-Fi and Fantasy scenario like they had in ToT. The fantasy scenario was my favorite way to play, despite it’s quirkiness.

This is the first Civilization game I've ever played. And it still has a place in my heart. I'd never loved (or played) a game as much as I did Civ II, and even today I compare every 4x game I play to it (how is it that it took them until Civ VI to bring back human-caused climate change???).

I’ve been playing Civ since the first version came out. Civ II had the best advisors, it would be awesome to have them back. Some great writing in the dialogue for sure. If you are reading this and have never played Civ II, do yourself a favor and look up KZfaq videos of the advisors, the anarchy bit was so epic!

I recall playing it at work (a serious academic job) and a colleague walked into my office as I was attacking with a war elephant and the trumpet startled her. A very embarrassed grin was all I could manage. 🤣

I still have the CD ROM for it --somewhere. I was playing as late as 2005 or so, but the next computer I bought could not run it. 😆 Thanks for the trip to Nostalgia Town. 👍

I run Civ 2 on Windows 11 with WINEVDM. It runs 16 bit programs, like Civ 2 is. I did need to set my game screen resolution lower (720p), since it was a bit slow with 1440p. With that adjustment, Civ2 is totally playable. I'm atm in the middle of playing a 7-civ game in the 1900s and it's working great.

I probably played Civ2 as much or more than all the others combined. It is weirdly annoying how between 1 and 6, Civ has become a geometry puzzle.

Some great stuff in Civ II. Current designers should take some lessons from these old versions. I like these look back videos.. but too short and not enough depth on what made each edition great!

The ai was awful (when it wasn't massively cheating). But, the economy was better simulated than 3, 5 and 6 in many ways.

@@lionheadshothe means playing civ 1 in the 90s, not now. Anyone with mid IQ would be able to see it. I've also played all civs, and i avsolutely loved them up tonciv iv. Then civ5 was meh kinda bad. Civ6 is horrible at every level.

@@fuscazo5399 doesn't change the fact that being this graphics focused in a strategy game is ridiculous, especially when the style actually helps gameplay, perfectly showcased by 90s era graphics. if you think "comic style means its a kids game and i am a manly man so i can not for the love of god play this" you should rather get your iq checked or your testosterone levels
