Hey Shaun.. you said at the start of this video the HV fuse is for both the AC compressor and the heater. So if the ac is working (blowing cold) and the heater in the front has stopped working then the fuse is not the problem. if it was the fuse both wouldn't work? Is that correct

I think he indicated the last thing to go was the resistive PTC heater that caused the EME to fail with the blown fuse. He has a range extender so he does not have a heat pump (with heat exchanger) to supply heat into the passenger compartment. Because he is in England/Scotland, he has colder climates so the AC is probably not needed much for the HV battery or passenger compartment. Speculating, he was probably able to limp along with the AC not working for a while but not the heater. They both are on the same fuse because it is not likely that both the AC and the heater would be used at the same time. There is probably a controller that assures that is the case - not both used at the same time.

BMW requires certified technicians to work on them. That may be a BMW dealer or BWM national question.

Hey Shaun, Any chance you know where to purchase one of these fuses? I have a Mini Plug in Hybrid with the same issue. I can't seem to find it anywhere. I even contacted PEC directly and they said contact the dealer. BMW advises it's not a serviceable item.

Hi, any chance you can share a link to the fuse?? My i3 needs the fuse according to the shop and he said to find a fuse instead of buying a new DME. I don't have a part number or any idea where to find it. Any idea??

Hi. In my f30 330e A/C is not working. I have got an error code: 801218 (Electric A/C compressor: Switched off due to overvoltage or undervoltage in HV supply). Do you know what it could be?

Your high voltage fuse for the air conditioning is likely blown due to failure of the air conditioning compressor or the ptc heater.

@@ShaunDobbie Thanks for your help and quick reply. What is the best way to start diagnose that? I have got ISTA/bimmerlink and multimeter. Really appreciate your help.

@@user-qt9cg9dq4p you will need to start with an insulation test on the ptc heater and ac compressor to identify which one is faulty. Also, a continuity check from the ptc heater and ac compressor back to the hv battery connector will be necessary to establish if the fuse is actually blown. The power supply is actually always connected to the ptc heater and compressor.

Hi Shaun, I found out today the heater on my BMW i3s is not working. The fan/blower is working but no heat. I do find though the range of car decreases though if I increase dial to max so would this happen if the EME fuse had blown? I was thinking if fuse blown it wouldn't draw on battery so range shouldn't be affected? I'm trying to eliminate as much as possible before I have to pay goodness knows how much to get it looked at as yes my warranty expired about 3 months ago. If you have any tips at all to help identify/fix problem I'd be so grateful. Thanks, Steve.

Hi, it could be the PTC heater in the front that heats the water. Does your air conditioning still work? If the air conditioning doesn't work and you can't hear the air conditioning compressor running, the fuse is most likely blown due to either a failed air conditioning compressor or PTC heater.

@@ShaunDobbie Trouble is quite cool here around 12C so hard to tell if AC working. As far as I can tell all fuses in fuse board OK, it's a crap diagram but all AC fuses good.

@@ShaunDobbie I can't tell if compressor running, should it be noticable? I just tried sitting in car on drive and by turning AC on/off the range dropped by 2 miles(not moving just sitting on drive) so would that imply AC was functioning by drawing power? This was with fan on minimum and just toggling AC on/off.

Yes, it's in the front. You will need to try and get the air conditioning running when it is warmer in order to find the cause. Once fixed, I suggest you sell the car and get a nissan leaf or something because everything is more accessible in them.

Have you thought of becoming a professor at a university? This will give you experience in teaching. Or, maybe, start a tutorial service? I'm just trying to share ideas for marketing. Because, the next step in a startup is self-employment (steps in the early stage to try to reach your growth stage).
