My grandmother lived at 430 north milton. As kids we got to know Johnny. He was a sweet man

Teller does the "swallowing the razor blades" trick but with needles. It's cool to know that Johnny did it first.

The reason for painting on the screens is that they provided daytime privacy for your windows. You could look out, but passers-by would just see the paintings. It was a popular form of folk art in the area of Baltimore where Johnny lived.

Paining on window screens was not “weird média” in East Baltimore where there’s been a longstanding tradition of painted screens on first floor windows, both to decorate row homes and to obscure the interior from passers by.
