Hello Everyone and welcome.
Thank you for joining me today.
Today is a super fun relaxing sketch and watercolour painting on honey bees.
I love bees and especially love them in my journals and paper. So this very loose approach to painting them I think is a fun way to incorporate them into your art and journals. So grab your paints, pens, pencils and paper and follow along with me and let’s make some art!
Hope you share with me all your creations over on Instagram. If you liked this video give me a thumbs up. Have a great day
Happy Crafting!

If you can peel the tubes off the dried paint you can use still use it. Most pallettes of watercolour are dried blocks of the wet stuff anyway 😊

What a good idea! I’ve seen people toss the dried ones in the trash and I might have done the same thing not realizing they can be revived! Thanks for sharing!

Love your teaching style. You're so laid back it takes the stress out of creating. And that is so good. I'm sure you already know this, but I thought I'd just suggest for others.... you can cut your tubes open with a razor blade and just break off some of the dried watercolor put it n your pallet and add water and you're good to go. When in college I didn't have a budget at all and used some 20 year old grumbacher watercolor someone had given me. It worked just fine. That's the wonder of watercolor pigments.

Michele, this is so cool! I was so happy when I saw this tutorial from you. I love bees and the fact that you shared this loose sketchy approach to creating while making it look so easy, makes me want to try this, and I will. The colors are lovely. What a great find at your thrift store. I just love thrift shopping. You know what they say.....one person's junk is another person's treasure :) Thanks for talking about watercolor ground. I have some and really enjoy using for paper that needs a bit more absorbency to handle the watercolor. It's a busy day here so I had to hurry through this video, but I'll be watching this video again and sketching and painting along with you. Thank you for this very cool video!

If you can get a bit of water into those dryed up tube, they will soften, if not just cut the tubes and save the chunks and wet each one as you use them. really like your channel.

Cut the bottom off your watercolor tubes that are dry, then cut from the bottom up to the lid and carefully peel them open creating a T shape. I leave them in the tube, unless I have an empty palette to put them in. That gives you a pan of watercolor paint that you can rewet endlessly. I did this to some of my Dad's dried tubes that I'm sure were 50 years old, and they were fine, except some of the earthy browns. Good luck, and happy painting!

Glad to see another quickie sketch and watercolour tutorial of bees which i will try for my latest bee journal. Here in the uk I have two hives of honey bees in the wall cavity on one side of our house near our pond. They are so busy this time of year collecting pollen and in 30 years here we have only had four accidental stings from them. We love them.

The beauty of watercolours is that even if they’re dry you can just rejuvenate them with water so I’d open out those tubes that are dry and you’ll still get tons of use out of them. And BTW W&N Cotman is a very good brand so you scored a bargain there.😮

Lovely bees! Very inspiring. Try using ordinary matt emulsion paint - the kind you paint indoor walls with instead of watercolour ground that is expensive. I have had great success with that cheap paint on paper, stones, wood, plastic as a base for watercolours.

I'm totally unable to do the loose and sketchy style. I want to! I love it! But I don't know when to stop! I'm allergic to white spots and puddles! I'm an oil paint, realistic style, portait painter, so the switch I'm trying to make at the moment to watercolor is really painful 😆 Thank you for this!

Btw u night want to try a rotring isograph technical pen or a fountain pen with some carbon black or noodles black ink. Their refillable, can change nib sizes out for line variety and so much better n every way than the microns. No waste and cheaper n the long run because they last forever!

Hello from Sweden, so wonderful that you did this, I love the bumblebees you painted. You have the very good watercolor paint cotman, they are very good and colorful. Unfortunately I'm completely exhausted after my computer caput, I've fixed it for 2 days, but I'm still working on it ... Hugs from tess ❤❤❤

The Cotman dried up paints? Open the end and scoop out color or pour in distilled water! I reawaken paints I score just that way. Those Cadmium colors are real and are “supposedly” more lightfast than new Cadmium hues.
