Detailed review and test of the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, including range test, road and track driving.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a high-performance version of the well-regarded Ioniq 5 electric midsize SUV. The N version is capable of hardcore track driving in at least 20 minute stints without derating of the performance.
But it isn't cheap. At $111,000 before on-road costs in Australia ($74K USD), the Ioniq 5 N is twice the price of petrol-powered Hyundai N products locally.
Rivals include the Kia EV6 GT, which is mechanically related but far from identical, as well as the Porsche Taycan, Audi E-Tron GT and BMW i4 M50.

Finally, a fast EV with a properly fun side. I like it. Also: our charging test result was a fairly average 29 min 27 sec to recharge from 50-350km of real-world highway range. While charging peaked at a great 260kW, because the Ioniq 5 N isn't very efficient, you have to charge it all the way to 88% SOC to get 350km out of it on the highway, and charging pace drops off drastically after 80% for this car (and most EVs). -Tom

Been driving my Ioniq 5N for about a month now, and i have to say. EVERYTHING in this review is 100% spot on! I traded my DCT i30N (which i loved btw) And trust me when i say, the "fake" gearbox in the 5N is indistinguishable and works brilliantly for sports applications IE, what we use a gear box for when driving hard. I would also argue that the 5N is FAR more livable then the i30N as its ride is softer, and clearance is MUCH more forgiving (i couldn't get my i30n down my driveway, but the 5N has no problems) Also been getting stacks of looks and people asking me just what this car even is, which is harder to explain then you might think 😅 If anyone has any questions, feel free to reply and i'll try and help you out!

Hello there! I'm very interested in getting this car. For the most time of the year 350km is plenty range for what I do. But there this once or twice cases where I would love some more range. Have you tried switching to FWD or BWD to get some extra range? Would that even result in extra range?
@ShufflerBluey
@ShufflerBluey 3 ай бұрын
@@pukecat9590 Good question! At 80% charge you get 300kms. (Which is what I leave mine at as it provides battery health) I haven’t tried comparing FWD and AWD for range sorry.. the car does have Eco mode so that should help give you a bit more range. Also using the regen breaking instead of regular breaking had quite a lot of juice back to the battery. Worst case scenario, you might need to top up at a EV station . So far, I’ve never had to do that.

I think that engine audio feedback actually assists with driver control of the vehicle, as it gives you non visual queues as to the power and speed being applied to the vehicle. Thus, I actually think that feature has a very practical benefit. I suggest it improves driver situational awareness of the performance state of the vehicle. It essentially functions as a driver feedback reinforcement mechanism, which I think could help improve driver confidence and control. Basically providing a better feel and driving experience for the vehicle.

I get the audio feedback part, but there are 10x interior speakers and 2x exteriors -- wonder those 2x exterior speakers are necessary.

This Channel has been a real blessing to Hyundai I'm sure. The attention their electric vehicles have been getting from you since 2022 is good. Since you are however independent, it can only mean their cars are that good or they really matter that much to Australian market.

Impressive vehicle no doubt, I like how they're trying to appeal to petrol heads. However, it may be ahead of it's time. At this price I'm not sure who the buyer is, a petrol head would no doubt chose ICE right now and traditional EV buyers would be better off with the regular. It gives hope for the day we are forced to be EV but I'm curious to see how they will sell right now. Another fantastic review Tom

Having driven other N cars previously, I knew that if anyone was going to make a BEV drive right, Hyundai N would succeed. I am in no doubt that it is a good drive and I personally would enjoy driving one, but ultimately at least for me the economics are it's biggest problem. No matter how you slice it the costs don't add up to being worth the investment. This is not a dig at Hyundai, but all expensive BEVs in general.

Nice review! Could you elaborate more on the "considerably nicer and order of magnitude more sophisticated in terms of hardware and tech" between EV6 GT and Ioniq 5 N? I see they have mostly the same hardware inside and nothing else but some software (tech) gimmicks (software is updated, transmission lag simulation, "manual" transmission simulation, additional engine sounds, little larger brakes, aircon on the same seats...)". To me, the 10k difference for additional sounds and bottom cooling seems quite expensive. Especially when you can get discounts from the unused EV6 GTs So where does the order of magnitude come from? Or am I missing something? Also, the stated "rear motor from Genesis GV60" is the same rear motor as in EV6. (And the same motor as in the front of EV6 GT). I don´t understand why they are trying so hard to make it to be different even tho it has the same hardware. Marketing at it´s finest, I assume. And about the range, you can increase it quite drastically by changing to 19-20" wheels and smaller roll-resistance tires to get the extra 50-70 Kilometers. Pirelli Zeros are quite sticky and eat range.

Finally, I can outrun the cops on my to fetch groceries! And with throaty porsche 911 engine sounds lol. It's ok. As far as the interiors of all these cars being described as adequate, my opinion is that all these new interiors SUCK compared to older cars of the 80s/ 90s. And EVs were an opportunity to go back to nice, fun, comfortable car interiors! I thought the stock Ioniq5 had a good interior, but I'm really not crazy about that N interior. I couldn't see myself spending $$$$ on this car even if I did have the money.

Evening mate, I have a new RS3 June 23 delivery, it was listed as $94,600, then options, GST, LCT, mark up it ended up at $118,00. This Ioniq will be $140+. And I get to enjoy that 5 cylinder actual sound, and it only weighs 1575kg. EV’s are rubbish. I average 510-520km per fill at about $100-$120 RS3 all the way 👍🏻

A car like this, it doesn’t need 600km range. When I had my MX5, I never needed that much range out of it. That would give me about 550, but I never took it for massive long tours or anything. I commuted to work, and went for a 200km drive on the weekend. This Hyundai being a performance car, not a tourer, it doesn’t matter
