In this presentation, Jack Donovan (author of The Way of Men) discusses the crisis of "modern" masculinity in a politically correct clown world.
In this presentation, you will also learn:
- What it means to be good at being a man.
- How masculinity is a muscle and developed through pressure.
- Why Jack Donovan believes Nietzsche’s work has insights that can help men become more masculine.

Currently, I know very little about Mr. Donovan, beyond what's in this presentation. I did stop watching to search 'the Google' and saw articles labeling him "alt-right", "misogynistic", blah blah blah. Unless I've missed something he's said elsewhere, these accusations seem exaggerated at best; character assassination at worst. There's a huge difference between being anti-feminist and being anti-female, a distinction the feminists choose to miss. My point is this: When large numbers of people attack 21 Convention and its presenters by demonizing and name-calling, it's a good sign that there is useful information which the man-haters are trying to suppress.

I appreciate this. Nietzsche focuses on the negative though and applies that Master/Slave dichotomy aptly. I've found Kierkegaard to be more positive in his "Godliness" point of view. Being a trustworthy, nobler, more dangerous man brings me closer to God. Much like the story of Cain and Abel these social justice types are Cain and the prosperous principled types are Abel. It almost feels like this is a repeat of a long-told story of mankind. How can we overcome this epidemic of victimhood?

One thing I really appreciate about Jack’s writing/speaking is his realism. It is very easy to believe that the “Empire of Nothing” is likely to collapse or be overthrown in the near future, when, in all probability, neither is going to happen any time soon. As he said, it is better to act in accordance with your values now, in whatever capacity possible, than it is to sit around obsessing over purity and waiting for the world to change in your favor.

The Spartan comparison is a false equivalency. Spartan society was an organisation where the will of the individual was subservient to the needs of the state. From the phalanx to the throne, the city state was above everything and the desire to be an individual was harshly punished. It was, in fact, a precursor to facism.

Masculinity is an option in western civilization. But in third world areas, like south America, Africa and the middle east for example, its needed to survive, thats why women are treated the way they are, religion is a dominant factor and they are constantly at war. Phillip Gratton yet we are not barbaric at all. It is you who are soft, effeminate and weak. Men are the butt of every joke, women rule your society, and victimhood is power. We view you as twisted and broken not ourselves as barbaric. What Jack has been saying is nothing unusual to us, I gained nothing new listening to him because all he said was already taught to me by my father and the experiences I had in life. I still admire his work and relish the fact that men are becoming men again in the west even if it means that we will have more comptetion and challenges in the future, because to me, the worst enemy in the world now, not to men but to life itself is social justice and feminism, and I want to see that squashed.

Donovan could have clenched the point better: Slave morality understands itself in terms of conditions or standards set by others. Its form of willing is _conscious_ willing. That’s why it becomes clever, sophistical. The philosophers, poets and priest think it through. And hence become reactive. Master morality is, by contrast, unconscious willing. I think this is important because - despite what Donovan says about ignoring what Nietzsche really meant - Nietzsche was concerned with a core conundrum or question : "how do I create the basis for the noble or the beautiful _self-consciously_ out of nothing?” And so Nietzsche’s superman is going to be something like a person with the spirit of the masters but with a mind - intellect, cleverness - of the slaves. A "Caesar with a soul of Christ," as Nietzsche also puts it. I could go on...

the contradictions between master and slave morality, like the contradictions between what you describe as noble and anti noble principles, would best be addressed like nitzsche himself analyzed by revaluating the principles, not affirming one over the other. the contradictions themselves are dialectical, master morality, or noble virtues depend on affirming themselves over that of the slave or anti noble virtues, and strucvturally mantain their persistence, create real barriers that prevent people from even considering alternatives. wheras revaluation allows all to reflect, and refine principles over time, reconcile conflicts in individual identities and personality issues, as well as social/political conflicts between different ways of being, rather than reinforce one or the other, at the cost of everyone else.

Loved this video. Would like to expand on the Noble Equation in order to combat self-affirmation, which is actually VERY tempting. I think it's not so much believing you can do, but the phenomenological idea of DOING "Good", DOING "Noble" things, DOING "Mighty" things, DOING "Beautiful" things, DOING things that make you "Happy", and DOING things that make you "Loved By God" (Interesting in JB Peterson's Biblical series as he equates God as the individual instantiation of the ideal). It's more by doing that you become those parts of the Noble Equation, and by becoming creates the belief that you are. However, belief creates an end-point which is why DOING and being in the moment of The Noble Equation is the best thing anyone can do. More like the Heidegger idea of Dasein within the experience of The Noble Equation.

At 39:00 -- I would like to know WHERE in his writings Nietzsche said that you were Noble just because YOU BELIEVE you are?? He never said that, but if I am wrong I would like to be corrected, I have read this books and I can't remember him saying that; it wouldn't be an issue if Jack said it in passing, but he made a whole point of that. Nietzsche described nobility, but he ascribed it to certain ACTIONS.... as Jack said it, You have to demonstrate you are noble by your actions and way of life. Choose the hard path VOLUNTARILY and CREATE as much as you can. Choose the best ways of living, which are not always the easiest.

Wait, my comment was removed?? ‘Barbarian’ is a term originally used of the northern African Muslim tribes : Berber. Look it up! Why would you delete history?? “Yes, the etymology of the term “Berber” is “Barbarian” when Muslims invaded North Africa they classified its in inhabitants into two main groups, the “Afariqa” or “Africans” which refers to the Romanized inhabitants of the big cities of the province of Africa who were subjected to the Roman Empire in contrast with “Barbars” who were usually the nomadic dwellers of the hinterland notably those who didn’t totally submit to the Roman rule or to the Romanization. The Arabs probably took the term from the Afariqa who probably used it to refer to the Moorish nomadic tribes. The term “Berber” is just an English version of the French term “Berbère” which is a transliteration of Arabic term “Barbar-بربر” which was taken as well from the Romans and the Greeks. The pejorative sense of the term “Berber” is the reason why it’s often replaced by the term “Amazigh” which means “Noble” or “Freeman”.” Drdi

Finally, anyone who talks about the aristocracy as an aspirational quality of self realization, a) doesn't understand the core aspects of aristocracy, and b) has never had any experience of it.

It sounds like men are placed or have more responsibility dealt to them, as in, women can depend on others taking or accepting responsibility for them but guys can't

@@justanerd1138 yeah I remember someone made a comment somewhere, he said it like this "don't get me wrong, women do have responsibility, it's just when it comes down to it all, it's gonna fall down on men/a man, women can toss off their responsibility, men really can't"
