A Nürburgring Lap in a Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R

This was my first time in the Megane R.S. Trophy-R. Even with the moderate pace, the car felt very well-balanced and confidence inspiring. After this lap, I was allowed to go for a lap myself as a driver for which a separate thank you to the owner!

I definitely agree with the guy who is driving this Renault. This one has pops, bangs, handles better and no fake engine sound which is present in the A45 and it’s annoying Misha. Induction noise is much better to applaud.

It does have lag, compared to the Meg 3. The engine is a little disappointing actually and the gearbox is the same shit taken over from the Meg 3. But I agree, the mid-corner traction is otherworldly for a fwd.

Well I have the normal 280 edc...and it’s also fast and fun. I fitted my Megane Rs with Michelin pilot sport 4 s. That’s the only modification I have done so far. Love it’s grip and there hasn’t been any wheel spin so far despite its fwd. for all Megane 4 Rs owners out there : throw ur Bridgestone tires and put some Michelin pilot sport 4 s on them. You will see an instant difference. Thinking about straight piping it and doing a stage 2...it gives 360-370 hp.

320-330 hp max at stg2. Not more. The engine has not big room for more.

I also have an 280 but manual. I also switched to ps4s. Stage 1 306 hp, original 264 hp.

Mate this renault is seriously fast. I have a clio 3 RS 197 and 200 cup. Drove on the ring with my friend in his 300 edc but its bonkers quick. Also the cornering is nuts of Renault Sport models.

@@BiSBAR45 I've been driving the Meg 3 RS 265 for many years now. Just out of interest because I'm tempted to trade it in for a second hand trophy-r. Is your reasoning based on experience of having driven the trophy-r or is it just a general statement regarding older and newer cars?

@@MajorAMinor both actually. I've had a meg2 trophy and it was more fun than my friend meg3 and meg4. Also,in general modern cars are way easier to drive fast, wich is , imo like i said, not fun (and potentially dangerous). Capable car < capable driver

Much as I love manual cars for enjoyment, I find it a bit strange that a car that was specifically created to be fast on the Ring is only available in manual, when "slower" variants are available with the dual clutch transmission. Nice relaxed ride, car looks very stable and well dialled in.

I mean the autobox on the Megane RS has also been critisized and as much as this is a raw racecar for the track. It seems like Renaultsport have also focused on driver engagement and kept the recipe for a good hot hatch (manual & manual handbrake)

@@WilliamLevesqueineX yup and the Civic type R has always been an 'arch enemy' for RenaultSport, when a CTR took the ring fwd record, RenaultSport always built another car to take it back

Manual is much better for this kind of driving in my opinion, U get to choose which gear u want and precisely when u want it. Those automated gearboxes get confused sometimes. Also the weight is lower on a manual box, maybe that's why renault chose the manual for this model

@@Wolfpack310 Modern DCTs are faster tho, that's no contest. However nowhere near as fun and engaging, it just feels like playing a video game. Bought a Veloster N recently and chose the manual instead of the DCT for that reason. I'd rather lose maaaybe a few tenths on track and on a roll race but have the fun and rawness that comes with the stick. It's a pretty good one to use too which helps.

Is it the clutch slipping or the driver not having a good technique ?I wonder tbh. It’s like he’s not releasing his foot from the clutch before pressing the gas on upshifts, him saying that he’s still getting used to it makes me wonder. I’m a driving instructor and that’s a pretty common mistake.

Ktec has already a 400hp pack for it. They said that the engine is pretty strong and they’ll continue to develop more parts/packages for it♥️

Cool car that we don't get in US, only Nissan branded crap with CVT transmissions. Lots of SUVs. Nissan has turned into cheap cars here that compete with KIA and Hyundai.

Thanks to the F*cking legislations... Since so many years they put pressure on our constructors... I am amazed that Renault still kicking asses with all the gov. restrictions in place honestly.
