Here it is. Note, I am returning to commentate. However, I am now a fan versus a broadcaster. I am doing this so that you don't have to hear nothing but car noises the whole time.
Before the "big one" happened in the 2001 Daytona 500, the 27 car of Kenny Wallace let go of his motor. Here is the restart with everyone together with 16 laps to go. Who will win? And how much history will change?
This is Part 1 of 7. More will be unveiled in the upcoming parts, so please be patient.

SAFER barriers were already being implemented thanks to Indycar, it would only be the full face helmet and HANS devices that wouldnt be mandated for a few years.

NR 2003 was such a great sim and to this day I think is still the gold standard of what racing sims should be. I'm excluding iRacing because it started out from the makers of the NASCAR Racing series and used the same engine but also because iRacing has no A.I. My only major complaint with NASCAR Racing was on the plate tracks the outside line didn't work well for the A.I. cars and after they would take they lead on the bottom they would on the backstretch move to the high line and lose the lead like you explained. I've enjoyed your videos though.

8 years later, and I just now realized that Todd Bodine isn’t supposed to be in the lineup, In real life, Todd missed the Daytona 500, and J eff Purvis qualified the 51 car in his place.

Those Graphics and details are incredible and accurate from the track itself to the cars in 2001 at the 500. Even the movie Dale there was allot of screw ups like Jeff Gordon didn't drive the rainbow scheme in 2001 Daytona 500 and many more inaccuracies' but looking at yours all the details r spot on. I was 21 at the time watching the race that's amazing how u guys can replicate this I'm still living in the 90's tech wise lol. How do yall do this? Anyways good job

That plate package was the best restrictor plate package with the wicker bills on the roofs. It debuted in Dales incredible last win at Talladega in fall 2000 Winston 500 and they kept it for all the plate races in 2001. Its a damn shame they got rid of it in 2002 that was another overreaction to Dales death by Nascar and didn't contribute to the accident. It actually allowed great passes which the fans and drivers loved

Hey Grffdog I have an idea, I think you should do an ultimate Daytona 500 race. You will take everyone who was won the race up to this year of course and round out the field with a few wildcard driving and let's see who wins it all. please get back to me and let me what you think about that.

Hey Rasheem. I understand your idea, and I think its a cool idea putting Petty and Earnhardt against Hamlin and Logano. But some things to think about include which mod to use and what time period to race in. Its an idea that has potential :)

Yes, i turned down the dlat, but turned up the draft distance. This helps competition without everyone crashing

Had that Mayfield spun actually happen, they would've thrown a caution cause there's no way a car can hot driver's side like that and keep moving. The car would be so pushed over there's no way it could move. Not to mention if Mayfield was hurt or not. Hence, caution checkers would wave.

I realized something, what if the 12 cars crash was fatal as well? John Nemechek was killed in a similar crash but Newman was at a higher speed in this simulation

Actually, Michael Waltrip crossed the finish line on the white flag, so even if there were a caution, the field would’ve kept racing to the line and Waltrip would likely have won anyway.

This would be more realistic if NR2003's physics allowed any other lane besdies the inside stay up ahead or at least close. Jr, Park, and waltrip were all shuffled to the back only a couple laps in because they went to the outside, got trapped there and couldn't do anything

Sterling Marlin was the 1994 and 95 Daytona 500 champion. Had Jeff Gordon won the 2001 Daytona 500 in this universe, it would had been his third. In fact to date, it was the last time an driver won back to back Daytona 500s. Though probably Michael Waltrip was the closest since in both the 2001 and 2003 races. and Jeff Gordon in 1997 and 1999.

You used the wrong engine sound for the onboard views. The Gen-4 car, on restrictor plate tracks, had a pretty distinct low-pitch sound to them that I can only hear from ARCA cars these days. Also, there are alot of cars present on the final lap who shouldn't have been. I distinctly remember Tony Stewart flipping down the backstretch on lap 173.
