Looking into portable handhelds for PS2 and I'm liking what I see with a lot of these. Might bite the bullet when I get payed next as the last few months were tight as hell, but these emulators really look impressive and hopefully I can grab something capable of gamecube/ps2 in the coming months

There's a lot of things to like, but no wifi or Bluetooth is a bummer. And with no touch screen support, I can see it being difficult to navigate in places. I really like the form factor though. Its nice to finally see some PS2 games running on devices this compact.

I'm happy your covering this Handheld Taki. This Handheld's Chipset has great Graphical Driver support. Also this Handhelds Chipset completely surpasses the RG552 with Linux support. Also Powkiddy should have added a Touchscreen to this device too.

I have a PS Vita and while I like all of these competitors, non of them are different enough to pry me away from the Vita. The only function it missing is L2, R2 native and PS2. We're so close to it and I'm really excited for when we get there.

Why do they insist on making the screen wider than the typical games you would play? Males the device bigger for no good reason. For 100 bucks I just got a snapdragon phone off the auction site and emulating gc, 3ds, and ps2 no problem. Waiting for anbernic to make their masterpiece, then I'll hop on.

These devices are always getting better and better. I want one like this with real HDMI support to play ps2 and gc games, that would be the perfect complement to my modded switch.

Not too concerned about ps2/gamecube performance as I generally don't like to play with too many speed hacks etc, so any games that run at full speed without any of this is a bonus. Hoping that this would be a cheaper alternative to the T618 devices for perfect 2x resolution gameplay for DC/N64/PSP, and PSX at 3x with PGXP though, hope to see this tested in the full review video. If possible, can test 1-2 saturn games as well though the emulator still seem to have issue on low-end ARM handheld in general..

Very cool, and I'm glad it exists, but no stacked shoulder/triggers, no wifi and no Bluetooth are kind of a deal breaker at this level for me. They gotta be stacked for ps2 emulation...

Hey Taki! I'd love to see a roundup of your most recommended Android handhelds at different price points. I'd love a dedicated handheld for emulation. My Galaxy S21 Ultra is a BEAST for emulation, but I'd love a dedicated device. Strapping a Kishi to my phone is fine, but far from an ideal experience from a stability standpoint.

No wifi or Bluetooth is a deal breaker for me. I really enjoy my retroid pocket 2+. I'm hoping the retroid pocket 4 can play GameCube and PS2 at 100% or close to it at around $150.

1. From your brief use, Is the joystick overly sensitive or tend to snap to 4/8 direction only? 2. Is PSP testing at 1x or 2x in your video? 3. Hope to see some battery life estimate when on performance mode for the 3D systems since it seems like the only useable mode for those. I know you mention charging is slow, but can it even start charging (slowly) when connected via a usb c to usb c cable to a PD charger?

The lack of WIFI and Bluetooth kills this for me. If they had a 720P display with wireless capabilities, then it could also be doubled as a media player with Plex and also have the ability to download files wirelessly. I use bluetooth headphones for all my headset as well and I'm sure many of you out there also like to use bluetooth controllers. Just seems like a shame.

Just got mine. Flashed Rocknix build May 2024. I've made it my portable GameCube and it does fantastic for me.

So many buttons on the front! Functions are always welcome to me, though.

Been loving this one a few weeks. Coordinated with The RA, JELOS, and NoTime2d8 for Android. We will have a few options on launch. I'm really impressed by JELOS but the screen tearing on mine is getting me. Also: The sound is blowing me away. I love it!

I prefer my POWKIDDY X28 with 5,5 inch (720*1280) Touchscreen and Android 11. It's much more ergonomic, has 4 GB RAM, better shoulder buttons and WIFI. X28 ist the most powerfull handheld of Powkiddy. Every tested PS2 Game runs great!

Cool device for the money although no WI-FI or BT is a bit odd. As a side note, I wonder if GEL OS will eventually support Retroid Pocket 3. Although it has Android 11 I can't stand regular Android as a gaming OS.

Great price for a device that does have 2.2 gig processors in it. Cant wait to see further developement of this. I feel like this is DEFINITELY a Ver.1 of this device, like in a month we'll have a Ver.2 and a binch of comments from people with no self restraint complaining they bought it right away but was the Ver.2 now =P I would have prefered a second USB slot and the screen to extend to the very bottom like the RG405.

They should have used the X55's Form-factor with this Handheld too. 😥

I reckon Powkiddy will soon dominate the retro handheld market if they aren't already. It's been a few years since I heard of them and their products are getting better and better.

something neat worth noting is the price with an SD card included. Only 20 bucks more for their max offered 128GB bundle. Usually, for some reason, companies love charging exponentially more between storage steps. If they come loaded with ROMS and emulators, that's a crazy good deal from the time save alone.

Every handheld doesn't have to have Wi-Fi and a touchscreen. I think too much focus goes into those features. Long as it has decent emulators and apps at a fair price. You can play locally and that's what makes the best handhelds. Moreover, I still have my Max 2 and it has the same size display so I'll hold off on the Max 3. I'm considering the X55 at the moment when it comes to PowKiddy. Looking for the larger displays.

Good to see improvements on handheld devices. However i don't see the point of owning non-pocketable device. Pocketable & Ps2 capable is my dream handheld. For now i enjoy my miyoo mini and ps1

This device seems really promising!! If this can run PSO Episode 1 & 2 (gamecube) at full speed, I'd buy it.

I don't usually mind a lack of WiFi on lower powered devices. But you're totally right, on a device like this, it should be a given. A touch screen too. I guess they really wanted to keep the price down and 115 is pretty good for the performance potential of this thing

This is neat. I like the performance for money it offers, the fact it runs Android so I can possibly sideload some of my favorite Android games that have controller support, and the understated looks. After watching this video I tried plugging my GameSir X2 Pro into my phone and then pretended it doesn't have a touchscreen to see how I'd like this. It's not bad; I was able to do everything I needed to do except type with the keyboard. Neither Gboard nor the stock LG Keyboard would let me scroll through and select letters like I could on my PSP. I'd never tried it before and simply assumed that's how it would work; but, no. So, file management would be best done with whatever device you're using to set this up with. It would be a bigger deal to me except this device has no Wifi or Bluetooth, so outside of file names what would you be typing with the native keyboard? Other than that Android is pretty okay to use without a touchscreen. It'd be a thousand times better if you could press a button combo and toggle the analog nubs into and out of mouse cursor mode on the fly like the GPD Win offers. That said; for the $110 price of this you can get a reasonably powerful and in reasonably good condition used 2017-2018 era flagship phone and a decent telescoping controller. And if you're just starting out in emulation I can't say that you wouldn't be better off to do that rather than buy this. But, this thing is really cool though! Thanks Taki for sharing this.

As always, you need to try Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, as a bnechmark. Nothing really emulates that perfectly. Let's see how this fares.

I don-t understand how this companies still exist. The PSVita can run pretty much anything and until the Deck came along I had no need of anything else. Just buy a Steam Deck guys, it will be worth it.

Misleading title. That SOC will barely be able to do some GC and PS2 games, pal roms, with havks to speed things up. You need four big cores for ps2.

Inline R1/R2 L1/L2 is a no-go for me for these handhelds wanting PS1 etc games played in a nice way. Except RPG's

Back in early 2020 I purchased the khadas vim 3 pro with same chipset. Unfortunately the android 9 that came on the emmc was in 32bit mode ugh. Great board but couldn’t install or run any 64 bit apps

CPU and GPU sound great for the price but I'm nervous with only 2 giggles of RAM

I'm good with my Android smartphone with Snapdragon 888 for PS2 and GameCube emulation. I'll wait when these handhelds go for as little as $80. I prefer a 4:3 aspect ratio since most PS2 and GCN games were displayed that way. I bought a Data Frog SF2000 for $20. It stopped working after 30 minutes of gameplay. Then when I ejected the microSD, I could no longer insert it back in. Piece of junk. Shame too because I love the SNES controller form factor. If I don't think the brand is reputable, no thanks. A lot of cheap Chinese junk out there. I'll stick to my Vita since that has some PS2 ports. Then my Galaxy Z Flip3 to cover the rest of the PS2 library and GameCube.

Ah, they don't get how this works. You're supposed to just make a millionth handheld that can play up to PSP based on what all the other companies do.

Someone needs to take over aethersx2, and code in the advanced option for timestretch audio. 3 settings that can cause stutters and lag.... Frequency is my go to test subject. Music game that requires stutter free lag free gameplay to enjoy. Spent years tweaking pcsx2 settings. Finally got it right. Timestretch advanced setting, all to their minimum setting. Then overall sound latency 25-30ms depending on what the computer/system can handle without issues. Boom. 1:1 gameplay with ps2. And i noticed every other ps2 game plays better too. So we really need those advanced settings in aethersx2

It's affordable but when you have a flagship phone it's pretty disappointing. 845x480 is quite a limited resolution. Barely enough for the PS2 and GC, but you won't get any upscaling which can massively improve how these games look! I'll stick to my S23U/ Gamesir X2 Pro combo, even runs Nintendo Switch emulation well, depending on the game ^^

115 to play budokai games and what not on the go is kinda amazing :D mostly also kingdom hearts mgs2-3 and stuff. just wish i saw this a bit earlier before i got my deck :(

Just curious, but could you take the time to possibly make a game list of the higher end consoles like PS2, GameCube, etc. of which games just won't play well at all, im making this request because I have been trying to get Castlevania Curse of Darkness for the PS2 for years and the emulation doesnt always work the best..........

I wonder if anyone would make handheld with top end processors like snapdragon 8gen2 or even 1. So far, these dedicated handhelds were using Unisoc or Amlogic which are quite antiquated. They are cheap, but for those with somewhat modern phones they aren't as attractive. Yes, Red Magic technically uses latest hardwares, but it would be better to have something that is dedicated to gaming without cellular modem that drains battery.
