The Darling Downs has a proud reputation of embracing a host of different and diverse cultures from across the world.
It has 10,415 people who speak a language other than English at home and 18,772 people living here who were born overseas.
Toowoomba is a designated regional refugee settlement area and zone, it has a growing number of Kurdish - Kurmanji, speaking community.
But within the local community, a bold step forward step has been taken to unite the various different African communities who now call the region home - with the creation of the Darling Downs African Communities Council.
ABC Southern Queensland's David Iliffe sat down with council President Monica Argoth and Public Relations officer Sofa Edriss to find out why this is such a significant step.
