You, sir, are a bloody marvel - thanks so much for posting this - I would have never worked this out in a 100 years. It's now in our band's set list to learn and perfect by July!

Took me what felt like 100 years. That bloody detuned top E….

I bet it did @@hicksy0815 😆. By the way - your guitar has a generally lower pitched-feel than when I'm playing it. Is it the guitar (12 string, baritone?) or do you have a pitch shift pedal, or is it just the chorus effect you're using?

Kirsty’s version is one of my favorite songs of all time and in my mind it’s always sprung from ether. I’ve never really considered anyone plucking notes on a physical instrument because it just seemed like a divine manifestation. Thanks for the peak behind the curtain!

Agreed, it's an amazing song. The melody and chords are beautiful in themselves, but then add Kirsty's vocals and it goes somewhere special.

@@hicksy0815 so are you detuning top E by an octave?
@hicksy08152 жыл бұрын
Tuned down a whole step to D. Couldn't make the song work in standard, but all falls into place with the top E tuned down

Fantastic. I'm trying to work out the harmonies for the choir part and so glad I got to see this. Think that bit right at the end will help.

I forget which 12 string you bought - looks like a Reverend?

Yes, it's a Reverend Airwave

OMG I FOUND IT! i have been looking for someone who can play Billys superb 'CHURCH BELLS' intro riff he plays on Kirstys version of 'A New England' (It has been described as 'sounding like a church bell peel' by someone or other - might have actually been Billy). Im not sure if Billy intended it as such. PLAYED BEAUTIFULLY SIR! I'll dig my guitar out! Any chance you can record a SLOWED DOWN version of the intro fingering please?? WAY too fast :(( but very good! Are you using a 12 string as it looks at times that it is?? I had an idea it started on the 'D' string the 'G' & 'B' open the rest I'll have to work out LOL

Worth using the video playback speed function on KZfaq which can slow it down to 25% of normal speed. I often use it when working out parts, it's really helpful.

@@PraeVas OMG I always thought BB played the guitar for Kirsty on the recording!!
@PoJoWo6 ай бұрын
@@PraeVasI was told that but it’s not mentioned on Johnnys list of sessions and recordings. Pete Glenister seems to be the other candidate. It’s wonderful whoever did it.

Parts of this version had a Gilmoresque tonal quality. Love it!
