Congratulations re HM appointment. Not easy to model make and write - I don't think that many understand that aspect. More strength to your elbow though👍😊😊 The layout looks great - I've used hanging basket liner as a basis, it's pretty good, cheap too. Another, less obvious, rock effect is to layer cork tiles, make the edges jagged, it gives that quarried Cotswold stone strata look when painted and weathered - or even if left as is, it's akin, in colour, to the quarried stone in the Bloxham area. I've not seen any other product replicate that type of stone formation quite as well. I purchased some background sounds from a.n.other about 5 years ago, very nice on my rural micro layout. Im also working on better sounds for train movements (under baseboards)🤔😉👍😊

Hi Dan, great layout I thought my layout was short at 4ft just goes to show what can be done and no reason why anyone cant have a very believable and enjoyable layout due to space, keep up the good work and have a great show.

Just priced this little layout out using 2022 prices at around £390. This is without track and points but with a Dapol signal. Luckily I have nearly everything needed to build a layout just like this. 0nce the garden railway has been completed this will be my next project! I just need to master your weathering skills, thank you for the inspiration.

This would make a good TT:120 scale layout for me, as I’ve got a 46 inch by 9 and a half inch shelf unit, plus room for a fiddle yard on a separate board.

Hey Dan, considering your interesting narrations on your videos, I humbly think your writing skills are maybe unexplored, nevertheless your potential to me is obvious. Just stick to what wonders you and stay close to your heart. Also, look at writing stuff which talks about ‘stream of consciousness.’ Think it comes close to the content you produce. Further, try some prompts, or figure out prompts for yourself, preferably along the subjects you want to touch upon. Maybe, try writing on music, it takes away the seriousness of finding words, plus you’ll be surprised at what you will come up with. Lastly, write roughs, a lot of ‘m. Maybe even short pieces. And jigsaw those together. Others may call that process editing. However, because writing is a craft/art, I prefer to stick with the more physical denomination. It makes it more down to earth of a process. Success with your endeavors. Looking forward to your next episodes!! Cheerio Vince

You say "client", so im assuming there are ppl out there who are looking to purchase a completed layout? I would've thought part of the fun of the hobby would be building the layout yourself, but I'm assuming that the client is not much of a scenic modeller and perhaps is more of a collector or loco kit builder? I know there are well known modellers like Tony Wright who has had a tremendous amount of help from experts on his Little Bytham layout, whilst his forte is kit building most of the rolling stock.

IGNORANCE IS BLISS !!!! A tiny layout, but riddled with ignorant problematic mistakes !!! It's obviously a pre-BR era layout as indicated by the period clothing and the 1930's car. But the track is Flat bottom which didn't appear until the 1950's, so should be Bullhead track ! Further as Britain seems to be the only country in Europe that's still unaware of the NEM Conference in Germany in the late 1980's, and its implications, usage of this layout is further impaired !!! The NEM conference was intended, to abolish the problems of technical incompatibilities between the various commercial ranges then in production. So track, wheels, couplings & one or two other parts needed to be standardised to ensure any (European) manufacturers rolling stock would work with any other, and interface with one standardised track system. As tooling was improving this also allowed refinement to be included. So the various rail sizes & shapes were refined to Code 75 (75/1000 of an inch high). Wheel profiles to match the new railhead shape, were set at RP25 (Radius Profile 2.5mm). Refined pointwork means narrower flange pathways, as the back to back measurement between wheels increased slightly to cope with the smaller thinner Code 75 rail !!! As this layout still uses pre 1990 British Code 100 coarse track, problems are likely through the points of any model made Post 1990, in that derailments are going to be more likely though the "Frog" area. Clearly the layout is intended to allow passenger trains, which means that even if "One Engine in Steam Block Signalling" rules are adhered too, there is still a requirement for a platform Starter Signal, and an FPL (Facing point Lock) on the point nearest the tunnel, which would mean two point rods from the signal cabin to that point (not one).

Why when nothing runs. Why not build a full layout and have trains running. Just seems a waste of materials

This is a fully Dcc working micro layout.. These small shunting layouts are great way to play trains in small space, and keep the cost down .. So I don't follow your comment about a waste at all..
