Just picked this up myself. I would have liked to have paid a little bit more for having to reset without saving, but $170 was too rich for my taste. Krikzz is the man though. I own 3 of his flashcarts now and they're all great. There are cheaper options out there (some of which are good alternatives), but Everdrives are the most reliable around.

If you're coming into the retro scene without any games but you have the console the "steep price" of the everdrive is worth it many times over. I have SNES, n64, GB, GBC, and GBA and if I wanted all the games that I could feasibly buy with the given budget of these carts combined, I'd maybe get less than 50% of one of those systems (probably the top 10 list on the n64 and that's it). Games are disappearing into collections and/or dying from use. This is the only way I feel safe about playing and it's more cost effective for me to hoard consoles for parts vs going after all the game collections.

Honestly I love that it has a battery bug I think that in all honesty the 2.5 is the best, won’t die after a decade and is still compatible with like 95% of the games and also supports rom hacks and gameshark codes just like the others

I have my 2.5 from like 6 years ago, still working just fine, i use It at least 3 days a week. There are patches for the non compatible games like Pokémon Stadium 2, Banjo Tooie, Jet Force Gemini, and a few others i don't remember.

Man $100 is the right price for sure. I'd get one but I pretty much have all I've ever wanted for my N64 in physical form already. However if I had to get all the games I have now in the current market today I wouldn't hesitate buying one of these. N64 games have now hit their retro prime and all I can find in the wild now are sports and wrestling games.

Yeah I have for the most part every game physical that I'd want for the N64, this mainly comes in handy to try hacks, prototypes, import games and the oddball game someone recommends that I don't have.

If I want something bad enough and need the extra money then perhaps I'll sell a few games at that time, but I'm not into making bank just to have bank, especially since video game values just keep going up.

I agree with you, but I recently found out that jamming my games into my console might eventually wear them down one day(even though I'm careful), so I thought the best option would be this to prolong the life of my OG games

It all really depends on if that one guy ever fully translates Animal Forest eventually. Because if he does, I'll definitely be beating myself up over getting the X5. And he has already done a vast amount of translating already from what I can tell...

btw, I think the RTC is used to time stamp your saves. Not used for any game.

I'm a little confused on the whole reset to save thing. My n64 reset button doesn't work for some reason but of course the on/off switch does. Can u tell me exactly how the reset to save works?

If you haven't already found out within the past 7 months. The n64 saves your game in one of two ways. Dependant on what game you're playing. It either saves to 1) the game cartridge itself, or 2) to the memory card plugged into your controller. Now, having that been said, if the game saves to your memory card in the controller, then you do NOT need to hit reset to save. It saves when it saves, to the memory card in your controller. However, it is in your best interest to get in the habit of pressing reset, every time. Just. In. Case. Now, if the game saves to the game cartridge itself(most games, especially earlier ones), then that's when you HAVE to press reset on the x5. Otherwise, it won't save. Pressing reset saves the "cartridge game save" to your SD card inside the X5. Which allows you to resume playing from your save next time you hop on. The x7 on the other hand, does not require pressing reset. When the game saves to the memory card in the controller, you're good. When the game saves to the "game cartridge", you're good as well, it immediately saves to the X7 SD card.

so its similar to the Everdrive ED64....which I believe is a clone for about $70 USD. I got one last year and it worked exactly the same way. At least with this product you have some sort of customer support if it breaks or bricks.

I wanna add that the Everdrive 64 X5 can auto-apply the IPS patches for anti aliasing removal, but the ED64 Plus can't. For anti aliasing removal on the ED64 Plus you need to manually patch the games on a PC first. Certain games won't accept patching (like OOT and Banjo Kazooie), but you can still apply GameShark codes to remove AA (codes are used via text files named the same as the rom, found in the firmware folder).

I'm not sure if they plan to restock the larger X5 but I'd imagine they will get more of the X5 mini. It's worth checking their used section occasionally on flashcarts on SAG. I'll try to find out for sure though, but also everdrive.me does have the X5 Mini in stock, which is also the official dealer for krikzz, it takes for me typically a couple weeks to receive an order from them though as they are not in the USA... But also I know people like the custom colors SAG has..

I recently purchased the X5, but when I play NES games they are all in black and white. The N64 games are in color, but for some reason the NES aren't. I also recently got the EON 64, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Question about your Dinosaur planet build...did you have to hook the X7 to your computer to set it up? or were you able to do everything thru the sd card in your pc? I was under the impression you had to go into the save DB file on the Everdrive and add a line to get it to work (can't do that on the x5...no way to access internal files of the everdrive) would LOVE to see a video on how you set up dinosaur planet, and if its possible to do it from scratch with the Everdrive X5!!

Honestly it’s not worth it, and this is coming from someone who owns the X7. Literally the only compatibility difference is animal crossing, and the English translation for that game is buggy and broken

Looks like it really comes down too if you want to spend an extra $70 to have it save without reseting back to the cart menu before shuting the system down. Been leaning towards the cheeper one, but I see the convince.
