We'll do a quick unboxing and run through the setup process including formatting your micro SD card to FAT32 and installing the EverDrive OS software for the latest revision of the EverDrive 64!

I've followed all your steps (I have an X7), but when I go to open a game, I get an error message saying "Directory not found". I'm on fw 3.07 (latest) and I've tried two different SD cards. I've also tried putting the roms in the root as well as a dedicated folder and still no luck launching any games.

There's a pretty hefty import charge attached to these babies now. At least here in Canada. Got around it by getting one at WarioParty. Just waiting to receive it at this point. Supposed to already come fully loaded so there's that too

Hi ! Very nice content ! About the save system on the x5. Do you need to reset your n64 each time you want to save ? Or only the last time your saving before powering off your n64 ? If you are in Zelda Ocarina of Time for exemple and you want to quicly save your game but not quit the game yet, do you need to press the reset button ?

That's a great question! I just tested this with Zelda to make sure I wasn't giving wrong information, but yes, you'll need to hit the reset button each time you save, essentially to lock it in. If you don't do the reset, it'll lose the progress. Hope that helps, and thanks for the feedback and support, it's very much appreciated!

@@HalfCircleForward Thank you for your answer ! So how long does it take to make a full save and relaod the game ? Is that annoying in some ways ? Is it worth 75$ extra money for the auto save on the x7 ? When you're saving in a game is the everdrive creating a .save in the sd card ? I can't find any video about the save system for the everdrive 64 x5 :/

@@raphaelribeiro1254 It’s actually really quick, you’ll be able to save, reset, reboot and be back in the game in probably a little under 30 seconds. It’s definitely an adjustment, but it’s not overly annoying. For me, personally, it’s a change I’m willing to make to save $75.. I’m cheap! 😜

I followed everything you said but for some reason a black screen pops up with the text "system init..." I thought i did it wrong so i restarted the prosses. it is FAT 32, I downloaded the right file from their website and its still not working. any clue with what that means and how to fix it?

I can't decide if I should get the x5 or x7, is the only big difference is you have to hit reset before powering the system down to save the game. You can also save with n64 memory packs correct.

Pretty much. I went back and forth before I ordered mine and decided I could live with having to reset before powering down. The other features, the USB interface and the Real Time Clock I didn’t feel I’d get enough use out of to warrant the price difference. If you’re just looking to play games, the X5 should do just fine for you. You can still save your games using the Memory Pak as long as the game supports it. Hope that helps!

POV: you saw smash remix and wondered if it was just a computer emulator game or if it would work on an actual n64

That’s a great question! It looks like you’d need to patch the original Smash rom with the Remix files, but once that’s done I can’t see why it wouldn’t work on the ED64!

I'm not sure if your active, but I'm stuck. On the part where the FAT32 Format, my drive doesn't have the "E:\" option as it only shows H, D and C. What can I do to get the E option? I bought a 128 Micro SD Card and I placed the SanDisk Adapter into my laptop it's recognized as "H:\", did I also gotten the wrong device?

The drive designation won’t make a difference in the process, just be 100% sure that the drive that you’re pointing to is the SD card you plugged in. Hope that helps!

The software can be finicky, it did the same to me the other night. Are you running the program as administrator?

I'm a little confused on the whole reset to save thing. My n64 reset button doesn't work for some reason but of course the on/off switch does. Can u tell me exactly how the reset to save works?

Sure! For games that use the on-cart save feature as opposed to the Memory Pak, you'd go through the standard save process, just like you would on the regular cart, but in order for it to write to the EverDrive, you have to hit the reset button and return to the EverDrive menu. It's an adjustment, but you get used to it. That being said, if your reset button isn't working, then you'll not be able to save to the cartridge, so the X7 would probably be a better bet. Man, I want an everdrive. Expensive, but it's worth having all your *legally acquired roms* in one place, playing on official hardware. Emulation is really nice with all the quality of life improvements, but PJ64 is the only real emulator, and it has obvious problems.

@retro vegan Rom dumping is completely legal, it's just illegal to distribute said roms.

@retro vegan Nope. Rom dumping and emulation are completely legal. Copyright only deals with distribution and other services. As long as you keep that copy personal, it's completely legal. Nintendo will tell you it's illegal, because they want it to be, but there's already legal precedent that says otherwise. Emulation is legal because it provides reasonable competition for console makers, and rom dumping is legal because that copy is legally yours, and you're entitled to make backups for yourself.

technically if you buy virtual console n64 games you can extract the roms from that and actually legally acquire the games

What size sd card would you recommend?

That’s a great question! The game files themselves are actually pretty small, so you can easily go with a smaller size card. I went with 64gb just in case I ever wanted to use the card for some other purpose other than for N64 games, but a 16gb or 32gb card should do the trick. Hope that helps!

Just bought a eon 64 adapter and wasted my money I really thought my graphics would improve on my everdrive but I’m having trouble.

Sadly the N64’s native resolution is only 480p, so unless you have an upscaler, or install one of the digital solutions, that’s the best you’ll get out of it. I haven’t used the EON 64 myself, but I don’t think it upscales.

Great video I got my everdrive 64 x5 last year for Christmas and loving it Since the war braking out into the Ukraine Krizz haven’t been able to respond. Not sure how much you know or what advice you can give me I just recently bought a new smart tv (replacing my old smart tv) After hooking everything up My Sega (mega everdrive), SNES and PS2 work fine but my everdrive isn’t working very well on the n64 the menu is fine but when I start a rom it violently flashes and the games start discoloured and vertical lines I then checked a few of my other original carts And they were working fine

That’s really strange, I haven’t heard of this issue before, but I’ll see what I can find out. As far as Krikzz goes, apparently he made it to Spain and is back up and running in a limited capacity. He’s been pretty active on Twitter over the past few weeks, so it might be worth trying to reach out to him on there. I’ll let you know if I can find a solution for you though!

Okay, so I had a play around with the backgrounds, created a .jpg image and dropped it into the bgr folder on my SD card. It let me apply it and all was good. The only sticking point I came across was the size of the image that's pretty specific, it needs to be 320x240. Did you resize your image before dropping it onto the SD card?

I finally figured it out first I was an idiot for not realizing there was a back ground folder in the first place, second I had to reformat my image from bmp. to jpg. Because I thought it had to be that from reddit which was when I refomated it to the correct size like you said finally I did all this in GIMP and had to save it in Microsoft paint as suggested by someone in a forum then boom I got it to work!! Thanks for your help.

If you’re trying to access the ED64 via the USB Dev Port, you’ll need to download the USB64 software for your computer. You can find it here: krikzz.com/pub/support/everdrive-64/x-series/dev/ Hope that helps!

Are not. Watch Dinosaur Planet prototype running from console with same Everdrive cart, then watch gameplay from emulators. You will notice the difference. Hope it helps...
