Dan Schneider once ruled Nickelodeon, but has now cast a dark shadow on the network. What started out as online rumors quickly spiraled into chaos for the network as more and more coworkers and former actors have spoken out. Schneider left the network in 2018 with allegedly a $7 million dollar check in his hands, but his effect on Nickelodeon will likely stay with the network for years and years to come as more accusations roll in. Dan has defended himself against accusations, but more and more seem to pour in every day...

oh-- trust me, it's definitely going to happen, thus why they gave him 7M to keep him quiet, hush money because they LET him do what he did. Basically "oh you're letting me go, well I'll take you down with me." So nick in huge trouble right now when it comes to being a company, they have rebooted the show that brought them money "rugrats", selling out for NFTS, putting out cheap animated content and just not making views like that did from the 90s to the early/late 2000s. So I say I give Nick, probably like 2-3 years before it goes bankrupt.

Something I think people aren't super aware of - Jennete's first role on a Dan Schneider production wasn't Sam Puckett; it was a small role in one episode of Zoey 101, playing a character eerily similar to Sam Puckett, a girl named Trisha who was held back from sixth grade who causes trouble for those around her. This means that Jennete's history with Dan goes back even further than most think, which is just sickening.

As a female growing up, you can ALWAYS tell when another girl is uncomfortable by body language. Look at ANY of the pictures where he's with the younger girls or interviews where they're next to him'/near him. They lock up and aim their body away, they don't wanna be NEAR him. I just finished reading Jennette’s memoir yesterday (highly recommend it, by the way), and I would just like to point out that, although she hasn’t spoken publicly about Schneider, Jennette describes in the memoir how Miranda Cosgrove has always been there for her with her struggles with her eating disorder and recovering from her past trauma. Miranda not being there the night of Schneider being given the award speaks volumes, and I wouldn’t at all be surprised if she was with Jennette that night to help distract her, as Jennette described her friendship with Miranda as “inseparable” through their mid-20s. Dan Schneider also has zero involvement in the iCarly reboot, and when Miranda helped pitch the show, she made sure that Jennette would be paid the same amount she would. I’m glad that in all of the darkness, there is some light to be found in people like Jennette and Miranda, and their friendship.

I read Jennette’s memoir the other day. She talked about how “the creator” coerced her into trying his alcoholic drink and said “The victorious cast drinks with me all the time”. She also had her first kiss on set and she was super uncomfortable and he kept making her do it again. By the end of filming Sam and Cat he wasn’t even allowed to actually be on set cause he was so verbally abusive and had to watch everything from a monitor in another room.

44:54 I'm glad you referenced this scene in particular. Years ago when I was channel surfing and randomly came across Nickelodeon, this scene from iCarly was on. And I couldn't believe my eyes. Most people focus on the feet stuff, which I get, but that scene was what tipped me off that something wasn't right over there and that the "comedy" was serving as someone's covert fantasy supplier. That person, I know now, was Dan Schneider. Also, the episode "iSaw Him First" (I believe it was called), where Sam and Carly fight over a much, MUCH older man, with Carly even kissing him at the end, always gave me a bad vibe. It's wild that it took this long for enough people to start scratching their heads and asking questions. Seriously.

The video of Arianna Grande immediately covering her shoulders and knees when he was around is extremely concerning to me. It seems to show that whether consciously or not she felt uncomfortable with him seeing her body and it just gives me such weird vibes. I grew up being perceived as a girl and I know that desire to cover up and try and feel more physically safe when an older man who is creepy or makes you feel uncomfortable comes around. To me her body language says "go away, we're just two teen girls having a chat, it's none of your business, you're making me uncomfortable". Even the tone of her voice made it clear she was trying to seem like she was joking but was really very uncomfortable. "Hey!" "because we areeee" That video will always rub me the wrong way.

I remember hearing the intro song to Zoey 101 while flipping channels and the lyrics are imbedded in my brain. The song starts out with a 13 year old girl asking if she looks "good" to whoever it is she's singing to. To me as a 40 year old guy, that's creepy enough, because kids don't look "good" to a normal adult. They can be cute, like a doll or a puppy, but if it's any more than that, you need help. "If you want to play, come and play today, let's just get away. Believe in yourself and follow me." This was written by an adult male, folks. Someone older than me - for a 13 year old girl. It sounds like a song R. Kelly would write. "Do you have your passport? Do you have your shots?" I'd appreciate these criminals and abusers actually being open and honest about their horrible behaviour, but that's if people were smart enough to have the correct reaction to such songs. If it's literally a 13 year old girl hitting puberty talking about how she wants to look cute for boys (or girls), fine. But it wasn't written by a 13 year old girl. It was written by a grown man. I'm not against TV shows about teen romance. The Wonder Years did it. But if you watch The Wonder Years and a Dan Schneider show back to back, you should see the problem immediately. Fred Savage and Danica McKellar didn't seem like they were being exploited. Even the early episodes where Kevin discovers Winnie as something more than just an icky, ewy girl, it doesn't come off as creepy. It's played realistically. She isn't supposed to be hot to the average adult watching. You're supposed to see that scene for what it is - kids reaching puberty. But when you watch a Dan Schneider show for more than 5 minutes, you can feel a 40something guy dreaming this stuff up. It doesn't feel authentic in a kid kind of way. It feels like someone set up a webcam for R Kelly.

In-between one take he went on a short diatribe saying disparaging remarks about a woman’s pussy. The older adult actress responded by saying that women are your friends. It was her way to get him to not talk that way. I thought he was being such an asshole. But, because people put up with it, I figured that it was because he had some kind of pull. Okay, this I have to disagree with. Knowing how your target audience thinks and acts allows you to create content your target audience can relate to. To make good kid’s entertainment that doesn’t seem patronizing or commercial, you kinda have to be a kid yourself and put yourself in the mental framework of a kid. How is someone supposed to make something kids will enjoy if they can’t tell how kids think? Texting is a safer mode of communication than phone calls or face-to-face conversation because the kid has a record of everything the adult says and what the kid says back that another adult can look at, and it’s a more immediate mode of communication than e-mail or letters. That being said, not notifying the parents of this communication and pressuring them to stay away from their child’s career is something I can’t get behind.

@@albertnortononymous9020 As someone who works with children, I absolutely disagree with this. There are plenty of ways to communicate with children that are not one-to-one and are able to be accessed and monitored by parents, lawyers, managers and whatever other responsible adults should be involved, and also leaves a paper trail of any communication. Even a group chat - I've never personally done that with the kids I've worked with, but when I worked retail, our managers had a group chat with everyone including our underage employees involved. I still don't personally like that method of communication, but it's better than just straight up texting a minor. Texting a child's personal phone - especially outside of work hours, and ESPECIALLY about non work related topics - is really not ever okay. All professional communication with children should go through their guardians, and if you are professionally involved with a child, you shouldn't be contacting them outside of that role period.
