The downfall and confessions from the Dan Schneider interview and Nickelodeon is as disturbing as it is denial. From his interactions with Amanda Bynes, Jeanette McCurdy, Ariana Grande, Brian Hearne, and countless others, Dan Schneider’s creations of child fame, to multiple alleged crimes and bad behavior, Dan Schneider’s strange apology and documentary are eye opening about Nickelodeon and Dan Schneider. Who do you think is to blame? Is anyone? And what is next for Dan?

Like I’m supposed to believe the children of 10/20 years ago, the children of any amount of time ago, were somehow less human or less children. Regardless of cultural differences in what “a childhood” looks like, humans all have basically the same developmental stages where we move through time and do all the physical chemical stuff, like, pretty damn sure those kids from the past were in fact literally just kids.

A very important point needs to be made. Nickelodeon has been getting a ton of blowback over these revelations, all of it deserved. But this isn't a Nickelodeon problem, it's an industry problem. As long as young kids desperate for stardom are in the media industry, it'll be so easy for adults to abuse/manipulate/take advantage of them that serious oversight and vigilance are going to be required to protect them. Without major reforms in how the industry operates, nothing's going to stop the next Dan Schneider from wrecking lives.

Knowing what we know about abuse in Hollywood, look at child actors like Amanda Bynes, Cory Feldman, Lindsay Lohan, Brittney Spears, Miley Cyrus, etc. Are we really that surprised these people grow up to be absolute trainwrecks? Its a clear sign of trauma.

true. Before I was like "I don't like Miley. I don't like Ariana" and while yes they still have accountability over their actions... a lot of them have trauma that they have not fully dealt with yet. Yeah some of them have "f you money" and can get therapy for these things, but it's like... it shouldn't have happened in the first place. It's like having a shirt and it getting stained. Of course you can get a stain remover or buy a new one, but that's extra steps to something that could've simply not happened if things were better. In this case it's not just accidentally spilling something on yourself, but the neglect of adults in the room and of course the awful audacity of the predators doing these actions. I still don't like many celebrities because some actions, while correlated with trauma are still awful and any child can tell you it's wrong even if you have a troubled past (plus my opinion is my opinion. Ariana isn't losing on millions because one unemployed person dislikes her). But I wish them all the best with healing.

I'm a former child actor. Older than these kids, I wasn't on Nickelodeon, but I can tell you this abuse started with the very first child actor Jackie Coogan, and has gone through pretty much all of us for over a hundred years ago down to today. I didn't want to be an actor, and repeatedly told people that, and they didn't care. Also, I WILL criticise Dan -- his solution is to make it clear to children that they might be working around predators and will possibly be assaulted, are the fine with that? Just sign the dotted line. I have a huge problem with his closing statement.

Regarding the "people could have spoke up with jokes," that's very hard to argue with children's shows of the era. Animaniacs, Ren and Stimpy, and Rocco's Modern Life writers would basically complete to see what they could get past the censors, and is a large reason why those cartoons are still enjoyable for adults all these years later. One of those shows said "to get a joke you want in, make a joke that's so inappropriate and so when it gets rejected you can propose the joke you actually want." Key word, cartoon, animation, work done 100% by adults, no children were harmed in the making of this program. How many times were there jokes that were "10 steps to far" to be "replaced" with jokes "1 step too far (that was the original joke)?" Chances are, a lot.

I think generally a very important thing to remember about this sus-pool is that Dan Schneider is definitely sus and also likely a scapegoat for Nickelodeon and honestly the film industry's constant failure to protect and care for the children working for them. SWOOP! Thank you so much for reducing the flesh slashing sounds on the transitions in these videos! I absolutely adore this channel and watch everything you put out on both but I was finding myself having to really push through the past videos on this channel because of those transitions. It really mentally disturbed me and I can’t for the life of me explain why, especially since I’m a true crime junkie and you’d think I’d be desensitized to anything gore-related... I found myself gearing up and starting to cringe at every transition, only to be pleasantly surprised that this time that second slash noise wasn’t there. It sounds so stupid I’m sure but it was such a mental relief and really added so much to my enjoyment of this video that I felt I had to comment! Idk if someone else felt the same as me and you changed it due to comments or if it was a choice on your part but either way I just wanted you to know it made this video so much more watchable for me and I didn’t find myself wanting to skip ahead to avoid anything! Praise be. 😂

There is nothing more terrible than watching an abuser use a normal person as their advocate. That the interviewer didn't specifically talk about things Dan did in the writers' room, things that had nothing to do with stress and *everything* with pure sexual harassment and misogyny. And like every abuser that wants to appear benign or blameless, they say *a)*my bosses didn't object and had final authority; *b)* no one stopped me; I didn't think at the time I was doing anything wrong; *e)* other people did worse. Then they focus on how *hurt* they are for being dragged for being an abuser.

This. Also what I feel for people who bring up age of consent laws. The social constructs of laws should not have any impact on it being incredibly abnormal and disturbing to be s3xually attracted to *_children._* I was a Nick era kid, and that “well the law said so it’s fine to depict create and perpetrate this predatory material shrugs that means it’s fine” was _everywhere_ in fanfiction culture in the 2010s. There are so many things so many of us were exposed to as kids that are not okay and were never okay. Because kids grow up and learn that they fundamentally can’t comprehend predation against children as anything but apocalyptic violence against another human being, that can only elicit whatever personal version of divine fury against the perpetrators. The excuses adults made around people who were kids then don’t hold up now that we’re their age. They deserve accountability.

Something that struck me as odd in the documentary: several of the former child stars said that, as kids, they viewed Dan and other adults as “friends,” which is very messed up. Also, I was surprised that the children were separated from the parents while on set. This is messed up too. The parent (or whoever is responsible for the child) should be there at all times with the kid.

Children are gifts and are not content or entertainment. They are human beings who should be treated with kindness and respect. The Disney ppl were there and tried to get me to sign her for ads and possibly a show. When I asked if my mixed daughters 8&13 could apply as well. Shirley Temple and Judy Garland aren't even the beginning nor are producers like Dan Snider the last of the dark side of Hollywood. The only difference is that this behaviour is being ripped out of the closet and these jerks are finally being shamed and being punished for their actions. The more I hear about the situation with the 3 convicted C predators that worked on many of Dan’s sets/shows, and the whole sh*t fire show that is the Dan situations in general. I want to know how Nickelodeon never saw any of this going on, or saw any warning signs, nor did anything to fix the numerous problems until far too late and so many people were already hurt by them. It all kinda comes back to Nickelodeon to me. If they never hired Dan and possibly the predators (still haven’t seen anything proving weather it was Nickelodeon or Dan who hired them) none of them wouldn’t have gotten the power and potential to cause so much damage and trauma, to so many people throughout their times and it’s just horrible.

@@alyssabrown-carleton6173 I'm not surprised or disappointed because honestly most of Hollywood is disgusting. Rider being most concerned about the legacy of Boy Meets World was ridiculous. BMW was a sitcomised 90s version of The Wonder Years. Middle male child with a brother and sister trying to figure out how the world works as he grows up. The ~legacy~ of Boy Meets World-- a very forgettable sitcom- over the mental health and well-being of a human. Really gross. But I find it awful that Will and Rider spent the entire podcast trying to make it sound like they were the victims and not even apologising for writing the letter. Danielle helped them a lot by insisting they were groomed, making it sound like they were kids when all this happened. Rider was 24. Will was 28 years old. They knew it was involving a child. They sat in that court room and looked that boy in the eyes and still said nothing. I find that really gross that they didn't take accountability and apologise, and just made excuses instead. I find it even worse that a few days later they're like 'hey we are thinking of making a documentary about our show!' knowing that it would push the articles about them writing letters down further because news tends to show what is most recent. Classic techniques to escape accountability and jump over the fence to change the topic before anyone realises it.

We apologised privately to Drake, but here is our public apology, we are so ashamed, this never should have happened, we knew better and we did it anyway. We made the wrong choice, and it destroyed someone, and we have to live with that, we have to carry that because we made the wrong call. We apologise to Drake, and to any other victims who have gone unheard or dis-believed because of our actions. We want to be better allies, and we will try harder.' Instead, 'I think Brian has suffered enough?!' and 'the worst part is how this damages the legacy of our really stupid terrible little cheesy sitcom that ripped off most stories from The Wonder Years.' @@nickit7655I love that song, and that line, because that's how I see most people. Especially celebrities. In the movie, Meryl Streep really does it justice and says that line great. "You're so nice. You're not good, you're not bad, you're just nice. I'm not good, I'm not nice, I'm just right."

I adore you 💝 thank you so much for covering all of this! Quiet on Set was a trip and while I wasn't new to the Dirty Dan story, that was insane to watch. I couldn't wait for your coverage of it!

I used to get absolutely livid at my dad because he will not allow me to watch Victorious, to the point that I was grounded every time he found me watching, I was 12 years olds. Even sometimes he will get all “opinionated” when I watched ICarly or Drake & Josh in-front of him; I re-watched now as a 24 year old woman and I understand him so much now. I mean, I watched this shows in Spanish and the dubbing KEPT EVERY SINGLE JOKE exactly the same.

I use to consistently watch All That and The Amanda Show when I was that same age (12). My parents didn’t stop me from watching it. But whenever they were in the room while It was on tv, they made faces and sighed as a way to imply they couldn’t stand either of those shows.

This whole Nickelodeon thing has been fascinating. But it's also been frustrating because I know people like Dan, and people who've protected bad people. And those wounds are very fresh. Dan saying "this thing hurt me" was incredibly frustrating.
