A Nightmare on Elm Street is a 1984 American supernatural slasher film written and directed by Wes Craven and produced by Robert Shaye. It is the first installment in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise and stars Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, and Johnny Depp in his film debut.
Craven filmed A Nightmare on Elm Street on an estimated budget of $1.1 million. The film was released on November 9, 1984, and grossed $57 million worldwide. A Nightmare on Elm Street was met with rave critical reviews and is considered to be one of the greatest horror films ever made, spawning a franchise consisting of six sequels, a television series, a crossover with Friday the 13th, various other merchandise, and a remake of the same name. Aside from Stunts, Polyester, and Alone in the Dark, it was one of the first films produced by New Line Cinema, who by that point mostly distributed films, leading the company to become a successful film studio up till 2008 and was even nicknamed "The House that Freddy Built".

Ahhhhhh, takes me back in my teenager decade, remember saw this movie in the theater back then with few of my high school friend , we just started high School and my older brother, ahhhh good ole days & youth was , we all got f*n old😌

I saw Elm st 2 first, got tape off lad at school who had copy off it when it was not that long out for Rental which be 1986 in UK, wasnt best quality, not sure how long after that I rented 1st one from local Chemists that had small video rental as side line, my mum and dad were going out that night, not sure if it was parents evening at school, got feeling it was, remember started to watch it before they left and was bit were Rod was in street being chased by Nancy's dad, mum wasn't to happy with his F Bomb lol, so if it was late 1986 or early 1987 i was only 14/15 and with quite strict parents dont know how i got away with it, saying that, my mum sat and watched Halloween 3 when it was on TV, she doesn't even like these films. Good Times, Loved Elm Street movies, other mate a school watched 3 when on at Cinema and then 4th, he said they thought summat wrong with film when they are in the loop from Diner. Still watch them all at least every other year along with many other classic 80s ones
