As we approach our 16th year on the road, it seems we have built a nomadic fleet. And we've received a lot of questions on how it's working out to manage a Bayliner 4788 motor yacht, 1961 GM 4106 bus conversion and 2020 Travato GL camper van.
The quick answer - far better than we ever imagined.
Before we left Zephyr behind in Arizona this winter and took off in Blooper to return to our Y-Not, we took a moment to film a bit about our fleet and how each fits into our journey at this point in our life.

We're Cherie & Chris and we've been full time technomads since 2006. We are owned by Kiki (meow).
We have a fleet of nomadic vessels that we split our time between - a 1961 GM 4106 vintage bus, a 1999 Bayliner 4788 motor yacht and a 2016 Travato 59G van conversion. You'll find RV, van and boat life content here, as we feel inspired to share - sometimes topical, sometimes travelogues, sometimes just hanging out.
We love sharing a slice of our life with others, and also blog at www.technomadia.com, Facebook and Instagram. We use the name 'Technomadia' in all those places. Come join the adventure however you choose!
Income generation is NOT a goal of ours under the 'Technomadia' brand - we do this for fun. While not an expectation, sharing the love back sure keep us inspired to keep sharing. Ways you can say thanks here: www.technomadia.com/thanks (but honestly, leaving comments is awesome!)
Our full time 'job' is running the Mobile Internet Resource Center, where we track and educate RVers and cruisers on their options for keeping connected. Come join us at www.MobileInternetInfo.com for news, guides, reviews and courses. We also have a dedicated KZfaq channel / mobileinternetresource... you can subscribe to. Through member funding, we can give away a lot of free content - and our members get even more.

My Handsome Prince and myself moved 17 times in 21 years (work related) so our child raising years were always in flux....but we liked the variety of experiences.....we raised 2 kids this way. They spent each year in a different school.....and, yes, that could be tough...but it's all they knew. The grew up to be confident, intelligent adults withf humors intact. The 4 of us were very close....and I only say "were" because, sadly, we outlived them....We did our traveling in an old cab over camper....first with them....later with our 4 grandchildren. Always had a simple 16 ft. powerboat that moved with is, too. We are both 90 years old now....age related handicaps and are pretty much confined to a little condo. BUT ALL THOSE MEMORIES, We are

Not only do I enjoy your channel, but also like what I see of you as a couple. From the outside, you look like a very ' Emotionally healthy' couple.....No doubt you have your challenges, but appears you handle them healthlily. Congrats!!!, I do not see that many of you.

What a great video! I've been following along since ummmm 2016 maybe.... and love the growth and thought you guys put into your life style. We sold the big "A$$" house, bought a 40' Class A and for 4 years haven't looked back but due to the state of the world we are considering an instance similar to yours. It makes sense! We see the need for a home base of some sort with a smaller transporter vehicle. Thanks for the video! ~Lynette

Right now a (recently acquired) Class B RV (Pleasure-Way Ascent) and a 25’ Chaparral bow rider (for sale in Elkton, MD). But someday hopefully a live-aboard vessel, so we can do the Great Loop!

Happy New Year to you BOTH! We love both your channels...very informative! Thank you for your hard work in keeping us all informed! I have a ?... in the beginning your kiddie was screened inside the salon...did she ever jump off the boat and go boat visiting and how did you train her to stay on board? Thank you so much and enjoy your travels 😘. Jano & Sonia from Florida, USA & BC, Canada.

Such great information! Thank you for sharing your experiences! Out of curiosity, when you were traveling, regularly, with Zephyr, did you encounter many RV parks that wouldn't allow it, there, because of its age? Thanks! Glenn
@Technomadia
@Technomadia Жыл бұрын
No.. we didn't... mostly because our RV isn't 'old' but 'vintage'. Most everything on Zephyr has been restored to modern standards. Search the channel, we have a video on the 10 year rule that addresses this.

We have a 1962 GM 4106 that is gorgeous and well maintained, but it does take a lot of effort to keep her on the road - hence the name of our channel. It would be difficult to full time without a place and tools to do the preventative maintenance. Lots of people do, and there are still mechanics out there that work on them, but we don’t go to the big name shops. it helps to establish a network of friends and be active on social media so if you get stuck in unknown territory you can get some guidance. These old buses are reliable when properly maintained, but it’s got to be something you enjoy doing (eg, hobby) and aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty. One of the worst things you can do is let one sit.

For sure.. we successfully navigated keeping Zephyr maintained and on the road for many years. It's a lot of work to keep those connections active.

Husband and I want to live on a boat after retirement in one year. We have been watching numerous KZfaq videos and your’s is the one that opened my eyes as to what I really want to do. We lived in our truck camper and traveled for 3 years. We recently were given a small lot in AZ with 2 rv electric pads on it. We are currently living in MD while husband works. Do you feel it is best to claim AZ at home of residency or Florida as that is where we will be buying the boat. Just wondering how to start all this once we retire. TY and I better go watch some more of your videos! Love them ❤️

You have to weight your legal needs and costs as to where to claim domicile and potentially consult a domicile attorney .. We have an article on the subject with the considerations: www.technomadia.com/domicile

You guys should maybe contact National General Insurance for insurance for Blooper and Zephyr. My RV policy allows me to lay up my RV and only pay for storage (comprehensive) insurance. The storage is about $200 a year and full coverage is about $1,100. When I use it I have to insure it for 30 days at a time. Just a thought. I'd love to get a boat and keep it in Michigan where I currently live, but my wife doesn't like the water so that's not going to work. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

I found the initial purchase cost very interesting. I know you made a lot of upgrades to both the bus and the boat. It would be interesting to know what your total cost is for these three machines, in their current form.
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that's a number we could figure out with some effort, but it honestly doesn't interest us and nor is it anyone's business but our own. We don't make the upgrades for monetary value, but for quality of life.

How is that any different than a more typical average American middle class household owning a quarter millions dollar home and two vehicles? (Which is pretty much the lifestyle we left 16 years ago).

@@Technomadia Only that your fleet in 30 years will be ashes and a house will still be a house that has appreciated in value.
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps. Though the bus we live in is 60 years old already and still going strong. And the house I (Chris) used to own actually burned to ash in a wildfire last year. So you never really know what will happen - you have to live for today.
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 2 жыл бұрын
Also, when I (Cherie) sold my house in 2008 to fully move to nomadic life - I actually took a substantial loss on my home to do so. The world isn't black and white, and markets shift. And our 'investment' in our fleet is comfortable for us. We've made very considered financial decisions based on our own life, savings, investments and income. Not all financial decisions have to be made strictly around what something could be worth in 30-years. Life, happiness, adventures and memories have substantial value too. And each RV/boat can easily be traded in/upgraded as we go. We actually sold our first van and our second trailer for more than we purchased them for. None of our fleet will be 'ashes' in 30 years. We're far wiser than that to allow that to happen. To each to their own.. our goal isn't to be relatable. This is our life and approach to our happiness quotient... and we openly share. Follow along if you like. If you don't relate to us, then don't. No skin off our back. We're not changing our life just because we don't follow anyone's particular formula. You do you.. it works for you. Just as our formula clearly works for us.
